I don't want a car or want to drive in my country.
Are you like this iyc? Whats the car situation there
I feel like I'd kill someone by not paying attention but I cant find a job where I live

>Are you like this iyc? Whats the car situation there

I live in flyoverland and it's terrible. I have to drive for 30-40 mins to do anything. The nearest grocery store usually takes me about 45 mins, then shopping is at least another 30 mins, then another 45 mins home.

I fucking hate it here. Chuds always say "oooh at least you live in nature and not around any niggers!" I can't even access it. It's nothing but highways and dense forests. If I want to go on a hike I have to drive nearly an hour to a state-owned trail. You can't even walk more than 10 steps in the forests here because vegetation is so thick.

No sidewalks or anything, either. If you don't have a car, you're just fucked. You literally can't do anything.
>>
>>225501038
I have a phobia that the car will die in a traffic stop or I'll get stuck somewhere where it won't be possible to get it out and cause a huge traffic jam. Which is a weird thing to say because I've had my license for about 10 years now. I thought it would go away but it's still here.
>>
>>225501232
then go live somewhere else, stop blaming cars for choosing to live in bumfuck nowhere.

The US is such a shithole it's insane
>>

>then go live somewhere else

Easier said than done, unless you're a garch or a trust fund baby. Apartments are US$2k-$4k per month for a small piece of shit. Houses are US$400k+.

I make almost US$20k more than the average salary and still can't afford anything.
>>
>>225501452
You need to find a muttette for you to live together o algo
>>
>>225501295
Same I'm scared of driving
>>225501340
Yes
>>
>>225501232
how did u or ur parents live there in the first place
>>
>>225501295
I still think like this too, which is why I generally avoid driving more than 30 minutes, it's worse that I live in a very dense country
>>
>>225501232
Your fault for being born in bogged Appalachia

even in civilized places in the USA our city planning across the board favors car rather than pedestrian transportation. even if he lived in a city unless it's like NYC or boston it'd be the same story.
>>
>>225502451
But cant you pass a driving test after a week in us america? Anyone can get a licence
>>
>>225501038
I live in a mountain suburb of a large city so I basically have to drive if I want to not have to wait 2 hours to get to town every day. It only takes me like 30 minutes via car. I like my car too. Currently deciding if I want to get a BMW X4 or a Cadillac Optiq as my new car.
>>
>>225502903
well yea you can get a license but who wants to go through an hour of traffic just to perform basic daily errands
>>
>>225502451
I live in Los Angeles and you absolutely can take public transit anywhere locally pretty efficiently then just use Uber/Lyft/Waymo/Lime etc for finally leg. I've done it a lot. I'm this anon>>225502932 and the only reason I need a car now is because I live up in the mountains in a very low density suburb so it's not time or cost effective to get public transit up here with all the involved transfers.

In LA proper the main issue with public transit isn't that it's not effective, it's that there are multitudes of violent drug addicts and mentally ill homeless people on every single bus and train. That is specifically why I invested in getting a nice comfy car, to have my own clean pseudo luxurious personal space while commuting. This is my personal sanctum for about 2 hours each day.

Also being able to go anywhere spur of the moment gived a lot more personal agency, I already figured that out when I was like 17. I just walk or bike for short local trips though.

>it's that there are multitudes of violent drug addicts and mentally ill homeless people on every single bus and train
The government should help them
>>
>>225501038
important question - do you have a drivers licence because if yes then yeah ok youre right and if not then your opinion is worthless
>>
>>225504898
They refuse to enforce vagrancy or drug laws.
>>
>inside Tokyo
Cars are a dumb choice. Parking costs an insane amount, roads are a cluster fuck and you're basically just asking for a ticket with how convoluted some rules are - no right turn from 06:23 to 10:53 only on Sundays when it's not rainy and the prime minister is wearing black thongs type of shit.
Lawyer practically begged me not to drive while waiting for my PR.
>outside of Tokyo
Driving in necessary. No two ways about it.
>>
>>225501038
I can’t afford a large enough home in the areas where all the jobs are. I grew up in a three bedroom flat in the middle of the city. I’de love to live like that. The same flat is unfortunately valued at nearly twice as much as my house is worth these days. €600k.
So i live in the commuter town and drive instead
>>
>>225501038
Yes, while Sweden itself isn't as walkable as most European countries I live in a Cuckholm ghetto so it's fine. It would be nice for emergencies or trips to IKEA and stuff, but I just can't justify the costs.

Spending 1100 burgerbucks a year on public transport sucks, but it's still cheaper than owning a car. And that's not even including gas.

Cringe, the capital should not dictate the country
>>
>>225505135
The city is where all the unskilled jobs are. To live in a town you need a skilled job which is a shame because towns are better imo.
Doesn't the Swedish government give you free flats?
>>
>>225505164
>>225505164
Not only petrol but insurance and M.O.T etc.
>>
>>225507520
Guilty of being relatively fresh out of school.
> Doesn't the Swedish government give you free flats?
No? Are you thinking of rent controlled apartments? Yes those exists but there’s a waiting list that can take a decade and they’re rarely ever larger than two roomers. I have kids. That’s what i meant about a real life. Flats large enough for anything other than childless couples are prohibitably expensive.
>>
>>225501038
I go around with my motorbike... it's cheaper, more fun to drive, better in traffic and easy to park. Whenever I need a car I just rent it.
>>
I like cars. I own a car. I like driving. I specifically chose my job because it's mostly driving and minimal office work.
>>
>>225501232
I'll never understand how you can be (presumably) pro environmentalism while simultaneously insisting on living in a concrete tower hellscape.
>>
>>225510181
Sprawl and single family homes is by far the most eco unfriendly housing arrangement while commie blocks is the best one from an enviromental pov. We get can get into it if you want to
>>
>>225511157

It's an interesting debate. Suburban/semi-rural/rural living is more integrated within and in tune with the natural environment, whereas in city concrete jungles you're basically saying that's a different thing for a different place and you were actually meant to live in the human equivalent of a big termite mound.
>>
>>225511227
Basically yes. The most enviromentally friendly way to live as it relates to our impact on nature and the amount of resources we burn would be for us to basically remove ourself from nature entirely and live in 40k hive cities
>>
>>225511429
Perverse way of thinking
>>
>>225511479
Imagine the infrastructure needed to support a neighborhood of 150 homes.

Now the same amount but they’re all in one giant Soviet commieblock with a bus stop and one road outside. You can extrapolate the dynamic to essentially everything else resource consumption. Tax revenue vs state spending needed to maintain the infra etc
>>
>>225511599
Yes, I understand the logic involved. It seems to me, however, that they may as well take that a step further and remove humanity from the equation to reduce environmental impact to zero. I imagine a study would have to be done to determine the most carbon neutral way to dispose of all the corpses.
>>
>>225511822
That’s the line of thinking behind the world overpopulation rhetoric, yes
>>
>>225501038
yes
