yeah I was surprised to learn Afghanistan was like Central Asia/South Asia. when I was a kid I thought it was in the Middle East next to Iraq or something.

Iran also had a big influence on South Asia. India tried to purge the Persian influence from Hindi and make themselves more Sanskrit and Hindu, but it's still there in Urdu in Pakistan.
