I live close to a river side trail for cycling, 20 mins I get to surf, 2 hours I get to snowboard. I'm also surrounded by mountains. I can get to the town center in 10 minutes and I can get to the "big" city in 30. Tokyo is 2 hours away.The real reason why no one buys these things simply boils down to a few things, the most obvious one being job opportunities, not everyone gets to work remotely.Assuming the area is within reasonable distance for work, then there are a few other reasons why these things just continue rotting.>renovation costsIf you plan to actually live in these places, you might as well just get a new house. These houses are in various levels of disrepair, and if you're lucky to find one which only needs a few things to be done, you will die during winter trying to live in one because of the nonexistent insulation.>taxA lot of these houses come attached to a huge plot of land, which comes with hefty taxes.>land exclusive for agriculturalNot only is it very difficult to convert agricultural land into another category, you are also required to plant produce. You can't just leave it alone, you need to make some sort of produce. Officials perform inspections occasionally, and if not that, your neighbors will snitch on you.In fact, you can't buy/own any property with agricultural land use unless are officially recognized as a farmer (which is actually quite an easy thing to do, depending on where you live, in my city I only had to join a few hours of farming "classes" in the city hall).
