>>
phd on what, why kicket out?
>>
>>225534471
Wouldn't plagiarism get you denied the phd once you present your dissertation rather than kicked out partway through?
>>
>>225537697
some phd programs require you to write a paper or present your work in a conference as a prerequisite for thesis defense, maybe she did gross plagiarism in one of her papers or some shit

I've worked in Academia for over 10 years, UK and Germany, and I've never heard of someone getting kicked out of a PhD programme. People quitting happens occasionally, sure. But getting kicked out has to require some very serious shit.

You can do zero work and get a phd these days. I have personally witnessed a student fumble basic questions that a fucking high schooler with a modicum of interest in the subject would know and getting passed at his defence because profs needs their postdoc shabbosgoyim and publications must flow.

As >>225538576 said it’s usually that people quit on their own volition.

In Germany the defense is essentially a formality though, the harder part is getting a publication out. In the UK it's the opposite since publications aren't required at all but the defense is far more rigorous.

I've seen a lot of people get kicked out of their PhD programs for failing classes, failing their qualifying exams, or being unable to publish a paper.

Most places don't have a publishing requirement, and even if they do, you can get away with submitting to some dogshit journal since quantity over quality is preferred in academia.
