Having grown up in a suburban development very similar to this, I have no idea why someone would see this and want to live here. You never have actual neighbors in places like this despite being crammed between dozens of other families. Everyone who lives in these places is still hyper paranoid about crime despite being a 30 minute drive from any major urban center. By extension everyone is extremely antisocial and acts like any attempt at friendly conversation is an assault on their privacy. You can see in the the webm that this places doesn't even have sidewalks, and that's by design. My brother and I had the cops called on us twice growing up because we walked past someone's house after dusk. No, we aren't black, and we were both under 10.I don't think the European mind can comprehend the level of neuroticism that drove Americans to creating places like this.

They go to work for 9 hours and then drive 45 minutes back home to sit in front of their TV and listen to the news tell them how there are URBAN YOUTHS coming to steal their car and kill their children. If you drive through one of these neighborhoods you'll see signs in each lawn indicating that the house has a security system, and most of the houses probably have some sort of Ring doorbell surveillance system at the front door.When you live in an environment where people are this afraid of crime but no crimes actually occur, all of that fear and paranoia gets directed at the people around them. It makes them afraid of people they have no business being afraid of.
