Good morning.

Much like learning a language, boy love is impossible after the age of 25. You only have a finite number of years of being a hot twink before it's over for you.
>>
>>225926066
There's no scientific proof that you can't learn a language after 25.
>>
>>225926093
"Science" is whatever the powers that be want it to be. You don't make any money by telling goys the truth. Courses, textbooks, educational programs, it's a billion dollar industry. Imagine telling people it's impossible and you lose most of your market. Ahmed can totally integrate at 30 years old, he's practically a blank slate, but it will take many years of government funded education of course. Also takes this experimental mystery juice for a flu with 99.999999% survival rate, I promise it won't have side-effects :)

I'm permastuck, I don't need a study to tell me what's in front of my eyes.

Find a different hobby then, because this one is clearly driving you mad and causing you enough distress to be a bitch about it on the internet.

Much like learning a language, the trannies that get the best results are the ones that start taking hormones in childhood, not when they're 25. The agepill is brutal and encompasses every domain.

>>225927685
Every skill-based hobby is like this unfortunately. You're fucked if you actually care about getting good beyond mediocre.

>I'm in my mid 30s and my Portuguese is getting really good.

My German was getting really good until it didn't. If you haven't spent 3+ years on a single language, you don't have the context to understand what I'm talking about.
>>
>>225927767
>My German was getting really good until it didn't
yes that's what ALG says will happen but people don't believe it until it happens to them

People who speak early don't know about their ceiling/plateau, they think they'll just keep growing. It's very rare for a structural method learners' ceiling to be higher than 70% in a language like Thai even if they're also getting input. https://youtu.be/Gal92k-EtBw?t=5963

>You're fucked if you actually care about getting good beyond mediocre
maybe ALG was just right all along

https://direct.mit.edu/jocn/article-abstract/24/4/933/27741/Explicit-and-Implicit-Second-Language-Training?redirectedFrom=fulltext

you just damaged yourself from the beginning and got the results that you'd get because of it. all the other people here will experience the same thing except the undamaged ones who did ALG right from the start (me)

sorry mate, see you later. my German is going smoothly
>>
>>225927767
>>225928072
just to give you an example, im at 94 hours and I can already understand Peppa Pig

meanwhile, the Dreaming Spanish learners (who don't follow ALG and start damaged) only understand after 150 hoursin the best case scenario (usually they can't understand it even after 200 hours)

for Japanese the same, I'm basically undamaged compared to these people
https://www.reddit.com/r/CIJapanese/comments/1tig5ge/comment/omu6zp3/
https://www.reddit.com/r/CIJapanese/comments/1tatan0/200_hours_downmany_more_to_go/

im at 178 hours of Japanese and I watch videos of higher difficulty than both those people too. the difference? they damaged themselves with Anki, with classes, with Genki (a textbook). i never studied Japanese in my life.

it's just like Marvin Brown described:

>Take our curve (up from zero, bending to the right, and leveling off to 100) and put it in a box. Then watch what happens to it as we apply two different forces to the box: ‘how much’ and ‘how right’. A lowering of ‘how much’ (lower understanding) lengthens the box (it takes longer to get the same result). A lowering of ‘how right’ flattens the box (it squeezes down the result). When ‘how much’ falls to 50% understanding, for example, the box stretches the curve out to twice the length (everything takes twice as long), and a 60% grade takes 1200 hours of class instead of 600.

>And when ‘how right’ falls to 60%, the box squeezes a 60% grade down to 36 (60% of 60%). Damage is like a weight on the box’s ceiling, and ‘ceiling’ (C) becomes our new parameter—the new mark that the teachers have to turn in.

literally, what takes these people 1200 hours who do everything wrong thinking they know better (flashcards, shadowing, textbook and grammar study, taking notes, studying pronunciation, things like Refold) will take me 600 hours or less

Probably because Peppa pig is designed for newborns and nonverbal autistic children
>>
Saying that you, as a 20 or 30 something male adult, can understand Peppa Pig after tens of hours of watching episodes, has to be one of the funniest brags I've seen

Oh, you've already outwitted newborns and autistic children that will never know more than 10 words entire life? Truly, your future wife will be impressed
>>
>>225928463
Japanese learners read Yotsuba&! in japanese as their first manga and it's a manga for children. What's your point?
>>
>>225928502
Yotsuba is understandable

Peppa Pig is quite literally designed for newborns for stages prior to language acquisition. What's even funnier is that he's probably sat there for hours watching episodes of it, believing he's some sort of savant because he can decipher the word breakfast when a pink cartoon pig's parent repeats the word loudly again and again and again.
>>
>>225927710

>>225928463
>Saying that you, as a 20 or 30 something male adult, can understand Peppa Pig after tens of hours of watching episodes
I haven't been watching peppa pig episodes, i just tried one to check my listening

>has to be one of the funniest brags I've seen
let me know how many hours it took other german learners then. or even better, ask the Japanese learner how many hours it took them. im sure you'll laugh even more

>you've already outwitted newborns and autistic children that will never know more than 10 words entire life?
you're British and you don't know peppa pig is just a normal show children watch?

im not outwitting any native child, im talking about you language learners

>>225928584
>Peppa Pig is quite literally designed for newborns for stages prior to language acquisition
prior to language acquisition? language acquisition already starts in the womb, and by the time the child is 2 years old they already had 4000 hours of input (the programme is designed for children between 2 and 5 according to this
https://tvtantrum.com/shows/peppa-pig not newborns)

>What's even funnier is that he's probably sat there for hours watching episodes of it
ive been watching ALG German, comfy german, and Naturlich from the beginning actually. im not one of those ajatt people who think you should use native media from the start

>believing he's some sort of savant because he can decipher the word breakfast when a pink cartoon pig's parent repeats the word loudly again and again and again.
i don't try to decipher any words, i just understand them like any normal person in their native language, either through context or just the sounds themselves. and it's not about me, it's about the method

now the question is what is your target language mate? and how long did you take you to understand something as easy (according to you) as Peppa Pig? have you even reached that point yet?

Alas, I am just some troglodyte who learning Spanish reads sonnets, verse, and prose!

This isn't a pissing match and I do not care. My ego isn't so flustered when I see other learners of different capabilities that I feel the need to tell my language hugbox how well I can outmatch infants.

And it is for prior to language acquisition. The show is used by mothers to entertain their children as they shake rattles and chew dissected bits of apple. But perhaps these are ALG approved sources of language learning stimulation?

alright, Spanish

can you understand peppa pig or not?

>My ego isn't so flustered when I see other learners of different capabilities that I feel the need to tell my language hugbox how well I can outmatch infants.
my method outmatched other methods from adult learners, not infants. i don't have any issue with you or the serbian doing a subpar method, i was pointing out there is an alternative explanation to his results that isn't age

>And it is for prior to language acquisition. The show is used by mothers to entertain their children as they shake rattles and chew dissected bits of apple. But perhaps these are ALG approved sources of language learning stimulation?
i think you don't have the faintest notion about what you're talking about

and if you can't even understand peppa pig, im sure you're not understanding Spanish poetry either, at least not like any Spanish speaker would (you're just translating to English and understanding English poetry said woth different words)
>>

>Nooo you have to heckin sit in the cuck chair and listen to a gorillion hours of a language or... Or else you'll never learn it!

Either learn a language or don't. Whining about not being perfect in it is gay and weak. Unless you're a native speaker, you're going to have an accent. There's nothing wrong with it.

Use whatever method you want. Take as long as you want. It's a hobby. Would you tell someone to give up painting because they can't recreate the Mona Lisa?

Who gives a fuck dude? If you like ALG then do it. If you don't then do something else.

> You're fucked if you actually care about getting good beyond mediocre.
You're mediocre (at best) at everything you do in life. Why is this any different? Stop comparing yourself to other people and either enjoy the process and focus on your own self improvement or find another way to cope with your insecurities. Bitch ass nigga.

The bellyaching isn't about learning a language, it's about reaching such an advanced level that production is fully subconscious.
But obviously, this kind of mastery takes more than a few years of input, it takes many years of input and output.
>>
>>225929506
Bruh I'm literally reading Spanish reddit now and plan to reread Eso (Stephen King) soon

My advice for language learners isn't ALG horseshit but to smash Anki. Double your new cards even if you're there for two or three hours and have to force yourself day in day out to do it. Your vocabulary base is the deciding factor and acquisition for speaking begins the moment you internalise grammar rules such to the point that it feels natural.
>>

I wish Russian was worth it to learn. Such a cool language, history, culture, literature... but it's not worth it because the modern Russian state has amounted to little more than a paranoid, militarized petrostate, squandering its people and intellectual potential on imperial revanchism.
From Tolstoy, Dostoevsky, Tchaikovsky, Mendeleev, and Gagarin to censorship, brain drain, endless war, and the glorification of one aging autocrat. A country that once aspired to lead humanity into the cosmos now seems content to drag its neighbors back into the nineteenth century.
What an extraordinary cultural inheritance to squander. What a fucking waste.

>inb4 learn it for the hot girls

>>
About anki: I think it depends on the language. If the pronunciation is very different from your native language, then flashcards can actually do some damage. If you already have a good grasp of the pronunciation (which requires a lot of listening usually) or it's very easy for you, you're simply absorbing new vocabulary and that's it. I also appreciate the leech function, where the card you often answer incorrectly is no longer showed to you, as it protects you from reinforcing the mistake

It's always been this way, more or less. That's why many of these authors write so "depressingly", often about moral choices and about freedom. Just like German or Japanese societies were able to create great social rebels because to rebel they had to go all out in societies full of Karens. Surprisingly this makes them even more worth, or at least interesting, to learn
>>225939858
I've been back to Italian for a while now and recently I was complaining a thread or two ago that everything I like about Italy is at least 20-30 years old, often much older. I'm afraid that I will drop it again soon. Is there any chance for a big come back in Italy?
Also, I'm curious about your opinion, because I watch a lot of old movies where professional actors speak and maybe that has distorted my perception, but don't you think that young Italians speak in a more feminine way than older generations? I have the same impression about Japanese and English. So no offense, I just can't name why I see it this way, so I don't trust my judgment

Surrounding that particular topic, I'm even more pessimistic and would move the deadline by 14. Your personality and emotional configuration is based on certain early experiences or lack thereof, and after a certain age they solidify into a foundation unto which the rest of your psyche is built on top of. There's the Genie case which demonstrates clearly that if you don't acquire language by a certain age, you lose the ability completely. Similarly, certain early childhood experiences or lack thereof create specific automatic defenses and ways of perceiving the world that you can't change in adulthood. By the time people experience difficulties and show symptoms in their teenage years, it's already too late for any kind of significant intervention. Modern psychiatry can only mask the symptoms and often does more harm than good, and with personality disorders and other serious issues, they don't even pretend they can do anything, they just sedate and study you like an animal.

Yup that's why you can't cure shit like depression and anxiety, you can only manage them permanently for the rest of your life and if you dare to fail that then it's back to square one with you. Situation is completely unlucky for people with shit parents. I hope to get my kids studying at least 2 additional languages on top of Serbian before they reach 20. Then after that even if they never reach C1 in any new languages after that they won't be miserable and regretful because they be able to think freely in 3 languages already.

I would only argue that traumatic experiences, stressful situations, more or less long-term exposure to drugs (including alcohol) or physical interference with the brain can, if not change, then emphasize some and flatten others aspects of our psyche. But it's super rare and usually a change is for worse. And maybe I would extend that period into the early 20s but with each year less and less important in shaping who you are.
But yeah, no one will give you back your childhood if you had a shitty time back then, very depressing

Yes I had a lot of troubles before the age of 10 that only manifested when I was a teenager, but I’d also push back on the idea that it’s “hopeless” or something. I live differently, I manage differently, I manage a constant stress and anxiety but unlike how >>225945716 puts it, I don’t end up “back to square one” when I have bouts of depression. Life goes on I just have to plan and limit accordingly. So I sympathize with people who due to issues have more issues as adults because I have issues too, but there’s no excuse to become a methhead loser or something because your dad beat you.

Thoughts on musik as inpoot?

>I've never used a flashcard in my life and i never will
You never had to, they’re non essential. Input is essential. Non-essentials can help but should support rather than diminish the essentials. I think why people with prior “study” doing dreaming spanish fail to input as well is because their mindset is fucked and they’re not just relaxing and listening, so for what it’s worth, what you’re doing right is approaching input with the right mindset. Grammar I find is a way to disambiguate and support/sharpen my input but NEVER a prerequisite for inputting.

3/10. If you mean just listening to music and not reading lyrics it's kind of meh. Very repetitive and it's easy not to listen to the lyrics. You usually just listen to the same songs at a given time. If you are exhausted and don't have anything else or if you use it as a source of motivation it's ok but music isn't that useful as a primary source of immersion.

They are useless and the words in them are compilcated/rarely in use.
>>

It depends immensely on the song itself, some songs are great, many more are useless.

It depends on the language you learn. Italian is great for that, but many languages, like English for example, do weird stuff in music like changing completely pronunciation, mumbling some parts of a word, enunciating words weirdly etc.

Pitch accent is nice thoughbeit, but I might be biased by being a native speaker of a different language that also uses it so I picked up on it from day kne without really thinking about it. I didn't even know it was a thing in Swedish before I read up on it in Japanese and then my reaction was something like "oh but that's just a normal part of how you pronounce a word".

>it taught me how to count
Listening to the same Rammstein song numerous times taught you something you could have learned within 30 minutes by studying it? Is this supposed to change my opinion or confirm it? You are aware that to a German native speaker Rammstein's lyrics are quite simple?

It is not about being the most effecient way of acquiring a language, but it is about being a way nonetheless, it works, even if bad.
>>
>>225947229
I think I might've picked up multiple dozen of words from Cradle of Filth songs. It's the best type of music for me when I can both simply listen to it and also improve my understanding of the language.
>>

That is why I like Rammstein, their lyrics are simple which makes it great for someone learning German to have an entertaining way of learning the language.

Fuck... How to learn Japanese from scratch? There is a lot of stuff, but what is teh best, the most effective, optimized way? I thought about little pronunciation drilling, pimsleur, anki core deck and something for input (some cutie on yt)

learn a new language and you can learn a new personality. your new language doesn't have all your pathetic faults you have in your native language.

Only change I noticed while outputting German is that I have less of a filter, whatever I say just has less emotional impact, including cringe shit, because the words aren't connected to real experiences yet. It's this way with English too, just slightly less because I've been speaking it for most of my life. Serbian feels concrete and real in a way English doesn't, I find it hard to swear, saying certain stuff feels more embarrassing and raw, words bring up more vivid memories and emotional experiences.
