There's an expectation of higher-caste children to be able to do what they want, and make their parents proud (or at least be able to care for them). They're not very physical, so those expectations have to be met with high test scores and certifications.
They tend to specialize. to the point where things I see as mundane, quotidian tasks are 'someone else's job'. Luckily when they perform at that level, they can look past familial and racial loyalties, and see that a Swiss Army Timmy like me isn't just a tool worth keeping around, but maintaining, paying well, seeking advice from...

Only the one in the top 10 for now. The current """champion"""" turned out to be a fraud and is currently ranked #27.

Canadians are such fucking shitbags. I really hate your kind. I don't even like Gukesh, but the dude will absolutely destroy your dumbass in chess but he's a "fraud" because he's Indian? Your country actively persecutes First Nations people. You know about Oka? And last year some nurses in Quebec committed manslaughter of a Atikamekw woman while calling her disgusting slurs, but they weren't even prosecuted.

Gukesh is a fraud because he's the world champion. A world champion falling this far in ranking after winning the title is rare and puts him in a short list of other frauds.

chess lost all its charm, at this point it's just remembering best moves calculated by the computer and turns into basically a memory contest, so I predict that this game will only stay interesting for Asians.

Among problem composers, there is an idea that in certain basic puzzles, if the answer is some oddball thing, then the position itself should ideally be set up in such a way either that the only conceivable mate is the special move (to check whether the reader knows all the rules). Or else, in the case of en passant, the position should be set up so that the opponent's previous move must necessarily make en passant possible, just by looking at the board. (This leads to retrograde analysis, another topic). The basic bitch Polgar puzzles 305 and 306 are good examples of what I'm talking about, esp. 306, the last two that Polgar uses to wrap up the dull mate-in-one section. The en passant thing is an extremely tight and silly constraint, but they can be set up in a fairly "natural" way, by pushing all the pieces to a corner of the board.

In this position (Polgar 306), which of course represents a legal-if-ridiculous position, the only possible move that Black could just have made is b7-b5, which makes the mate possible.
>>
>>225989037

Also, the thing you've just indicated explains why ideally, the problem should be set up so that one can just look at the board itself and know for sure that the special move is legal (this can be done with en passant but is far harder with castling). If you let the reader know "you can do the special move" then you've given the solution away, defeating the purpose. The point is to make the solver think. Usually, basic "castling" exercises are done without the hard constraint I suggested earlier. The solver is supposed to understand that mate is not possible by any normal move, thus leaving only castling as a possibility (regardless of whether we know it's legal, which would give it away).
>>
>>225995659
Shit man. You actually got what you ordered? I guess if you talk like that at the drive thru.

>Oka
Great cheese. Yeah, I'm half Mohawk from Quebec. I know about Oka. Two people died - one from each side. Still a massive amount of bullshit, and very tense, but less loss of life than most Residential Schools. Half my family's been killing the other half and covering it up for over 150 years, and the only thing different about the 150 years before that is that nobody bothered to cover anything up.
What does that have to do with anything in my post?
>>
>>225988586
I legitimately agree because canadians are the most hypocritical selfish pieces of shit on the earth. Honestly, I love the fact they're dying out.

>>
>>225996107
This one also has the issue of being mate in 2 and 3 in a couple ways if the mate in 1 isn't noticed. I never liked the kind of puzzle where the solution is the fastest mate among several mates.
>>
>>225996590
You came here for uni... How was that not your choice? You don't have to lie to me. I literally don't care. I'm securing some extranational interests, and then I'll be leaving this decaying shithole to continue to sell itself off by the pound.
>>
>>225996590
If you're not lying... the "people" you're dealing with, are 1) by and large from somewhere else, and 2) not people yet. They haven't experienced any hardship, and so lack definition and nuance in their emotions and decisions. Unfortunately, they may be allowed to die without it, and more unfortunately: not any time soon.

Indians should execute high castes. Its not fair that they get to move to the first world while everyone else in their country is poor.
>>
>>225996665

In general, for short "mate-in-(one, two three)" problems, the whole point is to find the most efficient, best, or guranteed move. This move is called the "key" in such problems. In one obvious sense, your desire for inefficiency is just plain silly.

On the other hand, chess problems and actual chess play are two very different things. Chess problems are frequently set up with scenarios that can't reasonably be expected to occur in practice, and therefore they have limited value for real gameplay. Still, they are mental exercises in their own right. You may have in mind more realistic sorts of problems (also known as "endgame studies" among other labels). But even so, acknowledging that one doesn't want to checkmate as efficiently as possible is a nonsensical admission, under any circumstances.

>But even so, acknowledging that one doesn't want to checkmate as efficiently as possible is a nonsensical admission, under any circumstances.
If I find a thing that wins by force that's all I care about. It doesn't matter to me that there was a slightly faster way to do it. I don't play chess puzzles for elegance.

Watching the following video as someone who suffers from approximately level 3.5 aphantasia, made me realize just how differently someone like him lives an inner life in comparison to someone like me; it's like watching someone visualize the 4th. dimension to me...
