I just finished school and now I can’t decide what to do. Should I go for the IT memejobs with a degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering, or should I take a manual job, specifically installing solar panels?
The problem with IT is that AI has completely wrecked the market. Western companies aren’t hiring as many brown thirdies for coding jobs like they used to. Meanwhile, working with your hands will always give you opportunities no matter where you go. And since the planet keeps getting hotter every year, renewable energy is only going to become more popular, EVs are a good example of that. What about you in your country? How is the market over there?

Go the middle ground if you dare, so you can switch from one to the other if needed and have knowledge of both

That takes time

Become NEET

Get an EE job or CE. Ai cant replace physical work. Or go into finance if you got connections they make the most $$$

Absolutely do not do that. An art history degree would be better than anything tech related. You’re young. There’s no way you can get your foot in the door

I'm a software dev, finished uni and entered the workforce in 2023. I'm abusing AI coding agents and still have a well-paid job. I guess I'm just surfin' on the fact that I might be replaced, but I'm learning the cutting edge skills, which keep me hirable. If I get fired I get fired, but for now it looks like I'm fine, because I can use AI. Maybe at some point there will stop being positions for people who can harness AI because it will be set-and-forget, but well, even there there might be some jobs left for humans to keep doing, and I guess I'm YOLOing all in until shit hits the fan

Well I have thing for Cinema, but I wouldn't do that here because it is dominated by nepobabies and communists

Unironically if you keep using AI you won't be replaced I guess, the ones getting replaced are the ones who refuse to adapt, but you need to accept thst you're going to make less money in the future

well now that you have your phd it should be fairly easy to land a job in one of multiple career paths (academia, industrial research, as a senior developer at some codemonkey corp with an R&D/product division, government). or you can start your own business, investors and public funding authorities will talk to you much more readily if you have a proven track record

I don't see why you want to install solar panels

Tech is fine. CS being dead is mostly a meme being pushed by AI shills and faggots who watched day in the life videos and thought they could get a 250k yr job with no effort. FAANG hires more now than they did in 2019.

Not mediocre people

If youre not willing to work for it then dont do it. Tech is easier barrier than engineering or finance.

>>225994765
FAANG is not open and never has been open to people without degrees from a select few top schools (or extensive work experience in a short list of companies considered "competent")

you can grind leetcode all you want and it will never even matter if you don't get a single reply to your applications to begin with

Go into tradie tech. Network technician, industry, set up office automation systems and program elevators and stuff like that. A bunch of companies here have problems finding someone who can do both low voltage electrical stuff and be able to set up a seperate and dedicated network for the buildings EV chargers
