Yes and I think homeownership is a scam and meme and I wish I had just rented a nice but small apartment in a nice part of town. Sure I have a bit more room and a garage, but the lawn is big and keeping it mowed and maintained is a pain in the ass and theres been a lot of maintenance costs, some I've fixed myself but I've had to pay to replace the entire hvac and water heater and I know the roof is gonna need looked at soon, also gutters too probably, and thats all in 5 years in a home thats only 20 years old. Also I have to drive 15 minutes just to get to a basic grocery store, and i don't live in the country, its the suburbs>nice new studio apartment in a good part of town 5 minute walking distance to anything: $1500 a month, and thats the most i ever pay, never have to worry about maintenance>basic home in basic suburbs: mortgage alone is $1500 a month, plus $150 in property taxes (those go up) plus an extra $350 month essentially in maintenance costs, lawn car etc. Not including the extra gas and wear & tear on my carI should've just rented and invested the difference and would've been a lot wealthier by now, but try explaining that to the retards who think home ownership is like a golden goose or something, couldn't be more of a meme
>>226023883I rent a house. So much better. Never take care of maintenance. Owner has to take care of upgrades if he wants his good to be competitive in the future, I don't have to. If anything bad happens that makes property value plummet, it's for his ass, not mine. He can't skyrocket the rent, it's limited and only can be increased incrementally (in practice they rarely increase it). Landlordoid has to shut the fuck up and be accomodating because he knows I can fuck him over big time, so whenever my sink is clogged or the water heater is leaking, even though I know how to fix it myself, he'll send a guy the very next day to get it fixed. I don't have to get a 4.5-5% mortgage for 25 years that will permanently tie me to my job and can leave whenever the fuck I want with zero obligation.>>226028718My dad fell for this. He accumulated land and properties over time until retirement. It turned into his second job. Hell, I think he worked more after retirement than before since he'd spend all of his time having to take care of his land and properties. It's so stupid. Renting gets you so much more free time, free time you can use to make money or relax.
>>226023883Yes, I rented for about seven years and then bought my apartment this year. I'm very happy with it. Ground floor waterfront apartment with a patio overlooking a marina. All my neighbours are old and rich. I'm 30. I'm moving my best friend into a rental apartment in the same building this weekend.
