As a pineapple pizza fan I think the problem people end up having with it is too large a chunk size. You need the pieces to be nice and small for it to not overwhelm the other flavours, but you can see pics online of people using huge chunks or even rings straight from the can. People try one of these pizzas, get a huge mouthful of pineapple, and decide they don't like it.
