Is it true that the Maple Leaf flag was pressed by Quebecer politicians and is despised by English-speaking Canadians?

Yes

Eh it's a kino flag, at least its not a tricolor with yet another lion or eagle on it

A big part about the flag's creation was for it to represent he future immigrants who are not English or French, and create some unity. It was already observed by the 60s that immigrants don't care about the Anglo and Franco culture of Canada.

Nevermind, I read a bunch of stuff about it. The Red Ensign was the unofficial flag of the Dominion of Canada and would appear more and more often throughout the 20th century. Its design changed constantly, but always had the Union Jack in the corner. In the middle of the century many Canadians felt Canada shouldn't be seen as a mere colony of Britain anymore and it was felt that the country needed its own flag. Prime Minister Pearson in the 60s finally started the debate about adopting a new one. The proposals for the new flags removed the Union Jack more to emancipate Canada from Britain than to appease Quebecers. While the flag debate was hot in English Canada, the population in Quebec was largely indifferent to it. If the French Canadians of the past often opposed new designs of the Red Ensign because of the Union Jack (not always by the way, they proposed new designs with the cuckstamp in it), at this point they didn't give a fuck because they got their own in the late 40s and when the question was asked in the 60s they were too preoccupied with their growing nationalistic sentiment to care about the flag of the country they didn't wish to be a part of.

Basically I was memed by some 4chan poster. But I've learned that English Canadians blame the Francophones for literally everything. It's their zainichi, their dalits, their terroni, whatever.

I haven't seen anything about it. Instead I read precisely that the maple leaf was chosen because it was a shared symbol of the "founding races" of Canada

could have been worse

>post-war immigrants identified less with the established British and French cultures than they previously had
If you're curious which immigrants didn't want either identity, it was the Italians who came in huge numbers in the 1950s. By sheer coincidence was our flag futureproofed for the type of immigrants we get now.

the anthem is a bigger thing about quebec than the flag
god save the king was the official anthem
anglos had a patriotic song the maple leaf forever that was unofficial anglo anthem
quebec had a patriotic song that was unofficial french anthem
the government then took the quebec song, wrote new lyrics in english and french and made that the anthem

>Instead I read precisely that the maple leaf was chosen because it was a shared symbol of the "founding races" of Canada
the red ensign did a better job of england, scotland, ireland and france
the largest community that felt excluded were ukranians

>English Canadians blame the Francophones for literally everything.
it's more complicated, there's four canadas, three of them agree to tax the fourth and waste their money on government nonsense
>>

>there's four canadas
qrd? I thought it was just Quebec and the rest (Anglo)
>>
>>226039769
A nigga named Lester B Pearson changed the flag. But Quebecois certaintly didnt like the anglos
>>
>>226041619
> the largest community that felt excluded were ukranians
Wow even in the 60s they were already the butthurt kings
>>
>>226041760
way too big a country for the other anglos to be united
atlantic, quebec, ontario and western
atlantic is mostly irrelevant, quebec hates newfoundland and bullies new brunswick
ontario and quebec get along to be largest voting block
western hates ontario and quebec for stealing their money and electing shit governments, get called unpatriotic for doing so
>>
>>226042372
huh
I thought the Anglos were all the same honestly

>ontario and quebec get along to be largest voting block
unexpected
