>Not guilty by reason of insanity
>>226045773>death by electrocution (may or may not work)
You don't understand what this means or what it does. "Not Guilty" in this case means not that the crime was not committed, but that the defendant did not meet the standard of guilt - foundational of which is an understanding of right and wrong. A schizophrenic, for example, may think the government is feeding orders into his brain that tell him to kill other people. He may not want to do it, but 'the 'government' keeps ordering him' so eventually he gives in to the compulsion. Schizophrenics actually explicitly describe their delusions as being 'projected' into them from an external source, and are often empathetic they want nothing to do with them. So the law recognizes this, among other cases, that a criminal punishment like incarceration in a traditional prison is inappropriate. Instead they are sent to receive treatment at a mental facility, often permanently because there's no real cure. The only issue is often there is a standard that people with an IQ below a certain number (like 70, for example) qualify for insanity defense, but somehow it's perfectly fine for them to drive a car or walk around on the street despite legally having no concept of right or wrong. They just are allowed to wander around until they annoy the state in some capacity. And ironically it was Ancient Greece who came up with this entire concept in the first place.
>>226045796>may or may not workI guess you could say it's a flip of the switch lol hahaha I am very clever
>>226045818is not real. is a jewish scam (psychology) for the system to say who is sane and who is not, they will discredit people they dont like saying they are schizos and pardon others for they narrative.males go to jailwomen go to the mental institution for a few months
this happened to my cousin, kind of>dude steals constantly>when he was 19 he was caught trying to take the entire stock of a store's Rolo chocolates, and nothing else>lawyer brought up the fact my cousin still hadn't graduated and was even in special ed (he was really in remedial classes in an alternative school)>mentions those chocolates are just his favorite snack>judge lets my cousin go because he thinks he's mentally deficient>cuz' returns home later that day to his gf and their 3yo daughter

>>226045854>self deprecatehow is that self depreciation?
>>226045850It is true that there is such a thing as a "slow progress schizophrenia" diagnosis that was made up by the Soviet Union to imprison political dissidents. However, Schizophrenia itself is very very real, and usually affects non-political people. It doesn't just involve hallucinations or delusions, it physically punches holes in your brain.Pic related is an artist who suffered from schizophrenia and you can see the decline.
>>226045892you can see a broke bone you can see a cancernow, if schizophrenia is real, how do you know who has it?
>>226045932Behavior, their statements in interviews, brain scans.Schizophrenia is actually one of the most real psychiatric conditions out there, stupidly easy to prove because it is a very specific disfunction in reality perception and the way the brain interprets reality and their own thoughts. All visible on a neurological level. The fact is you're only skeptical because schizophrenia is famous. You didn't bring up borderline personality disorder as an example, which is basically "I learned to not trust my parents and now I trust no one but I still want to be loved and appreciated". That's got nothing to do with the brain. Schizoid personality disorder, aka "I have zero interest in other people and instead have a big imagination where I get my socialization instead, none of this bothers me at all". You didn't bring those up as things to be skeptical of because they're so subtle that they arguably don't exist, unlike schizophrenia which is loud and proud and out of its mind.
>>226045773>not dead because the person who murdered you was insane at the time.
I've got jury duty in two weeks, tips and suggestions?
>>226045993Say that you have trouble understanding instructions, or don't like instructions given to you by authority figures if you want to get out of it. Do not cause a scene, just calmly state "jury instructions, that's totally lame and I won't follow them". They'll immediately thank you for your time and send you home.
>>226045993the victim is guilty
>>226045892>>226045968if schizophrenia is reasonably stable under medicine do they still get disability and/or insanity plea in your country
>>226045993idk how it works in Australia but I always get out of it by saying I'd only be willing to convict someone with plentiful and overwhelming evidence from a variety of sources. If you actually want to serve on the jury just tell them you're openminded and willing to hear everyone out and don't make it look like you'd be biased in either way.If you're gonna be on a jury in two weeks try to find joy in the little things, it's probably going to be very boring
>>226045968so... if youre a junkie or have epilepsy (without medial records)... you can fool the scanner they probably gonna belive youre a schizo and you go to the mental institution and avoid jail
>>226046029That depends on what you mean by 'stable'. Like if you had, for example, a medicated schizophrenic who decided to commit a crime out of greed or jealousy or whatever, then the central question of the court proceeding becomes discovering that motive and dismissing the insanity defense explanation. They have to commit a crime because of their mental disorder, not "and because you had a mental disorder while committing the crime, you are not guilty". Mental disorders are expected to factor in to every facet of day to day behavior, but that doesn't mean schizophrenics are incapable of understanding right from wrong. Many do understand, they just are in a state where their every perception and thought are not working correction. As for disability, probably if it is severe enough. I don't think autismbux are entirely a thing.>>226046050No because a junkie would fail a drug test and an epileptic episode would show up on a brain scan.Schizophrenia specifically results in a decay of white matter (which links areas of the brain together). No junkie or epileptic on Earth presents with that exact condition. Also, epileptics have very different symptoms, and a very different cause.
>>226046073*working correctly
>>226046073drugs or epilepsy can trigger neuroinflammatory responses and the activation of microglia in the brain, they would appear very similar in this type of PET scan...Lindsay Clancy is GUILTY, he wants to use this shitty system. Why "schizos" have a pass
>>226046153>drugs or epilepsy can trigger neuroinflammatory responses and the activation of microglia in the brain, they would appear very similar in this type of PET scan...I disagree, but let's say you're right.A car crash can produce similar physical injuries to being flattened by an elephant. QED, Elephants don't exist. See the problem with your reasoning?>Lindsay Clancy is GUILTYI actually agree with you, postpartum depression is bullshit as a mental disorder. It's basically no different than saying "my amygdala activated and my brain was flooded with adrenaline, therefore I was not responsible for assaulting someone". But that's what neurological reductionism gets you. If you dismiss mental phenomena and free will, then everyone are just chemical automata incapable of being responsible for anything. But 'schizos' have a pass because they think someone is implanting thoughts inside their brain that tell them that tonight their mother will be strangled unless they hop on one foot. It has nothing to do with hormones and everything to do with the fact their brain no work no good.
>>226045773thats retardedif someone is insane and did a crime that makes them extra guilty of it not 'not guilty' of it.
>>226046011>>226046015>>226046032I do want to give it a shot for the experience, to see what it'd be like in a court room. I know it won't be 12 Angry Men, but I'm sure I'd get a kick out of it anyway. Good excuse to get time off from work too
>>226046246If you're genuine, then expect to be bored. It likely won't be a murder trial or even a theft trial. I don't know much about the Australian court system, but in the US you're basically told by the Judge how to think, because the Judge is the referee who has to tardwrangle the lawyers. It is unlikely there will be any dramatic incompetence or serious tardwrangling by the judge, but the Judge will give you instructions and you should read those instructions very carefully. They're the most important part of your role as a juror.
>>226046246I served on a jury for an attempted kidnapping/assault case and it was very interesting to see the process at work, if not particularly exciting
>>226045854I wish Iearned this 30 years ago
kinda funny that to avoid the most serious charges you just have to go EVEN MORE SICKO MODE than what they think is reasonablelike yeah this is horrific but this guy is SUPER fucked so it's kinda alright
>>226046472Severity has nothing to do with it, and criminal psychologists are trained to deal with frauds. It even has its own term, "criminal malingering".
>>226045773>>226046239Being found not guilty due to insanity doesn't mean you're declared innocent and sent home. Aside from being spared some extreme punishments like being sentenced to death, it's often worse than being found guilty. If you're found not guilty due to insanity then you're sent to a psychiatric prison rather than a regular one and you're given an indefinite sentence rather than a specific one. You've committed a terrible crime because you're insane and that means that you won't be safe to return to society until you're no longer a danger to the public due to your insanity. So you hypothetically committed a crime that, if found guilty, would give you a 20 year prison sentence. But you were found "not guilty by reason of insanity". So instead of a 20 year sentence, you're instead given an indefinite sentence in a prison full of crazy people where you will be force fed medication (you're crazy after all) and will be kept there until the staff psychiatrists decide you're safe to be released. It is very likely that they will never make that decision, so you've now avoided a 20 year sentence in exchange for a life sentence.
>>226045796what a strange frog
>>226046597And worse the medication they give you isn't "this will help you be stable and live normally", it's "this will help you from hurting the nurses and be able to do anything but drool".
>>226045892>declineI just see a gradual progression of pattern-seeking brain getting more and more detailed over time.
>>226046638That's what is happening, in a sense.Schizophrenia's key symptom is finding patterns where none exist. What is supposed to be a cat becomes abstract patterns. Here's another examplehttps://medium.com/@khnoufmaria/brushstrokes-of-schizophrenia-a-journey-through-the-eyes-of-bryan-charnley-ddc1f424a494And it's important to remember this isn't happening in isolation. These are diagnosed schizophrenics who happen to be artists, they are not schizophrenic because their art is weird. They're having any number of functional or social problems as well, and might even scream at you if you interacted with them.
>>226046638good post. you can exactly see when he stopped pattern-seeking and started pattern-making. bottom row patterns don't exist in real life besides that he made them up, and you've seen them copied hundreds of times.closest you can get is a kaleidoscope, but that's also a man-made thing to make patterns that don't exist, except probably first made by a nerd that wanted to check if it works and then someone thought it's a good present to score chicks.but I digressed. I just want to ask, how is it, that you find neat patterns in below row?

>>226045773"Not guilty by reason of insanity" in Brazil is the only way someone can get a life sentence since for harsh crimes it usually means permanent institutionalization

>>226045796It works better than lethal injection
>>226045993Count on nothing happening, either getting called off the night before or abruptly getting sent home after you get to the courthouse. 9 times out of 10 that's what happens. If you're one of the unlucky few who get picked to stay, just tell them you believe strongly in the principle of jury nullification and resent public prosecutors. Instantly disqualified.
Femfemma (five-fiver) is old slang for a crazy person here, because section 5 of chapter 5 in the criminal code covered not guilty by reason of insanity.
>>226046880That's an entirely different subject, abstraction through linguistics is not pattern seeking. That's higher thinking which is, at least to me, a gray area. Language itself is actually mostly pattern making and then the other and that was the hard part to make recognition even easier. But part is purely an animalistic trait and then later conscious to write down. At least some were I have no idea how Asians speak read or even work.Another question, what is the pattern that you recognize on the bottom row? Where did you see it? What does it recognize you of?
>>226045892You wrote some very sensible replies anon but I would like to bring up that it was never actually confirmed whether this artist had schizophrenia (which is a reasonable guess to make) and that his art in this instance was deliberately arranged to make it seem like there is a regression of some kind. The chronological order of it is unknown. It's more likely that he just decided to experiment with different styles more once he got institutionalized
>>226047123>lethal injection>it's not lethal
>>226047712>In 1914, he suffered a severe head injury in a horse-drawn omnibus accident and ten years later was certified insane. He spent the remaining fifteen years of his life in mental hospitals, where he continued to draw and paint.>Since Wain spent the last fifteen years of his life in mental hospitals, there has been speculation about his mental condition and suggestions that he was suffering from schizophrenia, with examples of his art appearing in several psychology text books in chapters covering the disorder.Even if he didn't have the disorder, the claim that mental illnesses don't exist and are a psyop by the state is still ludicrous.
>>226046597you should be punished worse if you're insane, not less. this whole cocncept is retarded
