When did you become an atheist iyc?

I'm not nearly as anti-religion as I used to be but that's only because I realised just how many problems I have with them are catholic-specific.
Outside of some tiny cults centered around 1 guy keeping you in the basement it's honestly the worst religion on the planet. My country is a defacto colonial entity existing solely to extract wealth and send it to the vatican, I guess also as a place to exercise their protection racket for pedophiles.
Orthodox is probably second worse, their churches side with the worst dictators and go against normal democracies but at least the money mostly stays in the country.

I did for a bit in my late teens, but reading through major literary and philosophical books made me re-appreciate the question of God. Plato, Spinoza, Augustine, etc. I wouldnt say im any clear denomination, but I understand the attraction towards something higher than the here and now.

>Plato, Spinoza, Augustine, etc.
You're pretty dumb if you think those are anything alike.
Out of these I'd say only plato had ideas worth paying attention to. Spinoza seems like a Terry Davis of his day. Augustine can go fuck himself.

Read Nicomachean ethics, Aquintas plagiarised it and made it retarded so you might recognise some of the ideas, but this will be way more useful to you than that drivel they've been feeding you.

Atheism is more rational than belief in the Abrahamic god.
>>
>>226065652
I'd more or less force belief in God and Jesus up to like, 14. Weren't even an explicitly religious household. I felt alienated and alone, trampled upon, longing for justice, and needed someone who actually gave a shit about me.
Well that last part hasn't changed at all, people care even less about me now, but I guess my brain grew too big for delusionmaxxing.

Hindus and Jews don't proselytize.
Christians (it looks like it's just a Catholic in there) proselytize.
Muslims don't really proselytize anymore (forced conversion fell out of fashion).

What the Catholics used to do, and what the Hindus, Jews, and Muslims have now in common is that their primary method of increasing their numbers is by simply breeding more. Jews and Muslims are very inbred due to this. I don't know if Hindus are also inbred. I don't know enough about Hindus to know what the reason is for their strategy of high fecundity with seemingly no planning or intention to build anything up or leave anything behind for successive generations, but it does seem to hinge heavily on other countries accepting their societal refuse.

The Christian and the Atheist are the most similar because they are universalist and have been integrated into the west; so anyone is technically capable of being integrated into Christianity or Atheism. But Atheism isn't really anything, it then just becomes whatever the dominant cultural force is at the time. Even ironically, Christian. You see now the phenomenon of culturally secular westerners deus vulting or shilling for gregorian chants or orthodoxy or whatever they think is cool at the moment.

But more often than not, an atheist is just the product of the corporate, academic, and media apparatuses in his society. This is why a Chinaman or a Japanese doesn't have dyed blue hair and a bone in his nose. And to the extent that they do, there is an always obvious cross-pollination from the west going on.

>>226066243
Depending on your capacity for reason to begin with, it is more rational to just submit yourself to the stream of whatever is culturally dominant. So logically we can expect a greater number of atheists in a culturally secular country, and hindus in a hindu country, etc. Britain is culturally secular, and so therefore you are atheist.

Most terminally online atheists are ex-religious people recovering from religious trauma so of course they're miserable.
People raised without religion being a strong presence in their life aren't like that.
>>
>>226065652
i was raised without religion so i don't have a complex about it.

my family judges religious people but only because of the political associations, not because they believe in a certain theology or lack thereof.

i went through a phase where i went to church for exactly the political association that my family hated, but i never truly believed.

i feel lost and without purpose. i don't believe in anything. i have no community. i hate most people anyway.

i feel used by women, misled by my elders, and trampled by the competitive nature of achievement.

i always wanted to live a simple and peaceful life ever since i was a child. i have that life now but i'm very lonely. nothing satisfies. nothing motivates.

sometimes i want to believe just to have a purpose.

I'm not an athiest. My issue is religion. This is due to my parents being essentially fundamentalist christians when I was growing up. I say essentially as they would both vehemently deny the fundamentalist label. There were a lot of additional rules they followed that had no basis in protestant christianity, the evangelical christianity they subscribed to, or really anything at all aside from their peer group and their ad hoc ideas about morality. All manner of things were sinful, according to my parents, often with no predictable framework to follow. My siblings and I were constantly made to feel guilty for sins we weren't told were sins, or we didn't understand why they were sins, or why our parents became so angry about whatever trivial thing is happened to be that week. They'd say this television show is banned in this household, this activity is a sin, that family who live down the street are sinners and if we play with their children we are playing with the devil's spawn etc.

You get the idea why I developed an issue with organized religion. All these extra ad hoc ideas originated from my parents' extended families and their "prayer group" and no doubt some televangelist scam artists as well.

>>
>>226065652
Since I was born, the veil of religious lies finally fell away when Internet access appeared.
>>
It's not that religion itself turns me away, but rather religious people. I have never met someone who is seriously religious and appears sane. Christians, mostly women, have appeared neurotic, the priests uncaring, literal agents of foreign intelligence. Muslims angry and retarded, juts hands up in the air and Allah take the wheel, very slave like. The few good religious people were following only some rules plus they weren't some idols that I wanted to strive to be. Anything Eastern-Hindu adjacent are just cults here, trying to have sex with women and kids and steal money from desperate people. Never seen practicing jews desu.
However I do think that religious belief might be something that your average normgroid needs in order for society to function.

When you LARP as being religious, you give more social power to the religion you LARP as, that has detrimental effects to your society. atheism is an ideology in a sense that when people declare themselves as atheists, it is making a statement of world view in relation to theists. coming from a non-religious society where no one cares about religion is the default position, outspoken atheists are viewed with similar suspicion as outspoken religious people.
>>
>>226065652
I went from agnostic all my life to getting closer to christianity because it brings me a sense of comfort and belonging. Nobody in my family cares about religion.

I just need to believe in something, and I think belief and having a well established moral code can be beneficial. A lot of people take pride in being an atheist until they have to face death or a very difficult time in their lives, and then they realise the value of faith.

Let us not forget that, although Christianity and Islam both stem from the Abrahamic faiths, Christianity, during its expansion across Europe, absorbed many pagan customs, festivals and ways of thinking.
