As much as I like the way Tsukihime is written, I'm very happy it's a visual novel and the adaptation sucks anyway because because it's very hard to take Shiki seriously when you actually look at him. He works really well as a kind of Poe/Lovecraft protagonist but he doesn't have the appearance to match so seeing pretty boy whiney edgy fucko just throws all the delerium/paranoia/insanity he's good at depicting out of the window. At least very little of that matters in Melty. But still, have him look like a fuckin' weirdo, it's fine, it'd be more charming anyway. Don't have to make him outwardly ugly either, Yukito in AIR accomplished similar (though that wasn't a horror game)

The only reason these games have h scenes is for them to sell. It was a necessity but Nasu was fine with it. 2012 Mahoyo released on only PC, if he was such a sucker for h-scenes he would've released it with some. (It's almost as if it's based on an LN that didn't have any! Wow!)

An aspect of Satsuki that I really like is how it's made clear that she wasn't all there before getting bit but because of how little Shiki knew her, the extent of which is kept deliberately vague. I'm curious how red garden will handle that since while of course it was how she was originally intended to be expanded upon, I do really like how that vagueness impacts vampire Satsuki because save for killing people it isn't made clear how much it actually changed her psychology.

I feel like there's a lot of Satsuki's character that's influenced by late 90's Japanese societal ennui and edginess. She has a reputation of being the good natured class idol but she's not fulfilled by it and is playing a role to an extent, which is why she's attracted to Shiki and goes looking for him at night.
Coincidentally, earlier in the thread people were quoting Nasu talking about how his outlook has changed and I wonder how he'll write her route now that he's clearly less disillusioned.

Other anon was not me but his point is correct. I like Tsukihime far more than Fate and have practically no interest in the latter whatsoever. Personally, I think it makes more sense to play the games that directly inspired it before it than it does to play it before Fate. Which also isn't at all necessary mind you but it makes more sense to me than the Fate thing does.

Said games being Kanon and particularly ONE (though Kanon's my favorite of the two anyway and you'll still notice a few things directly taken from it in Tsukhime).
MOON is the game the people behind the other two did before ONE, also notable is that it's also a horror game vastly different from the rest of KEY's repertoire (though Nasu to my knowledge has never even mentioned it).
Dosei and Mystery House were jokes, the former being essentially the first KEY eroge and the latter being the first game Roberta and Ken Williams made. It was unofficially translated/remade for Japanese computers which kickstarted what Japanese adventure games became.

I got lambasted here for posting a reading order, but it is best if you go through the "order of making" to not miss any references and to not be left scratching your head when they come up.
So, assuming you're willing to go through these titles (most of which are great):
Mahoyo (on Steam)

You can play Melty Blood for more Tsuki content, but it's not as necessary for Fate stuff.

Then, Fate. Remastered has the best localization but the third route sucks on it, so you can either choose to do the first two on the remaster and the last one on the ultimate edition (I can send you a save for it on the fifth day if you want, which is roughly when the censors start kicking in)
Then read Hollow Ataraxia which is best read on Steam.

This will give you the best view of the general world of TMverse or Nasuverse or w/e, and you'll be able to cherish the parallels, references and whatever when you read Fate. It's not really a Higurashi > Umineko difference, though the Fate VN is more or less a Mahoyo remake. If you really want to read Fate, you can read it first but you'll miss out on some stuff. It's ideal to read as much as you can before most Fate titles, especially if you want to read Strange Fake. I'd recommend AT LEAST Tsukihime if you don't want to read through what I've listed. Read the remake of Tsukihime AFTER the original whenever you want, assuming you have the time.

I'm breaking my own self-imposed rule here by actually posting, but I actually have played both games and Tsukihime is so much better than Kizuato that it's not even funny. To be clear, I only played the original Kizuato (supposedly the later remakes are differnet) but regardless that's the only version that's applicable for this comparison. The surface-level premise of both games are kinda similar and Chizuru's route can be said to be a bit like Akiha's route but that's about where it ends. The writing in Kizuato is significantly worse with a lot of dull sol scenes and overly long character introductions. It also commits one of the cardinals in VN writing by having the last route be the worst one and have what maybe could have been a good twist revealed in the laziest and dumbest way possible. Overall, I found it shockingly bad considering that Shizuku, which preceded it and was written by the same people, was actually quite good.

Anyways, the original Tsukihime was no doubt inspired by stuff from early Key and Leaf, but it's miles, miles better than the original Kizuato.

Read it? Almost certainly. It has an important place in history. Copied? You could make the argument that Nasu lifted Shiki seeing dreams of SHIKI killing people and the horror aspect surrounding it from Kouichi having a similar problem with him seeing the killer's murders. In the interview, he essentially compares the making of Mahoyo to that of a glassmaker due of the delicacy of the work. Meanwhile, he mentioned that the first part of Tsukihime, being twice the size of Mahoyo would have taken an additional year of production if produced in the same way as Mahoyo (very optimistic imo). That's why they had to change the way they processed things for the remake.

Wrong, this is a reference to Vergil's summoned arrows from DMC1/3/4/5.
Marais Executioner Sword is very similar to Ea, and of course you have the Leda design being reminiscent of Seiba and some other stuff. UBW was most certainly taken straight from Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. Several enemies possess the ability to hurl flying weapons at you exactly identical to how Gil and Garcher do it, and Alucard can even obtain the sword of the Flying Armor to do the same. I plan to do a video on what was taken from/influenced by Castlevania in Nasu's works, and then a video on how Nasu's works influenced Miyazaki's, I'm currently gathering footage but it won't come out any time soon, I could yap for a while but it's better that I shit it out here when I'm done.

I suppose I could talk a bit about it, though it'd ultimately be pointless to make the video if I said everything there is to say.
Let's start with this:
It wouldn't be too much of a stretch to say that every vampire in Tsukihime was influenced by Castlevania's Dracula and Alucard.
For example, Arcueid. Besides the glaring name similarity to Alucard (A Kagetsu Tohya loading screen draws the attention to her name sounding like Dracula to be a coincidence, though this could be a subtle joke to say that it sounds like Alucard instead, Arukuedo/Arukado), Arcueid's role as the "good" vampire is more or less identical to Alucard's. Though the evil father isn't actively on earth wreaking havoc anymore, she slumbers all the time until Roa (who is more or less an evil Alucard with some Dracula characteristics) resurrects, mirroring the start of SOTN where Alucard awakens from his 300 year slumber upon Dracula resurrecting in that game. The design similarities are also all over both characters, while Arcueid has short blond hair and red eyes, she originally had long blond hair before it was stolen by Altrouge, and she also has golden mystic eyes, Alucard himself having long blond hair with yellow eyes (in the remake, her irises aren't bloodshot anymore when she activates her eyes, so they look even more like his).
What about Roa then? He's a very odd vampire who is adamantly and stubbornly clinging to his humanity through each reincarnation. He still views himself as human despite his status as a Dead Apostle, due to going through a "natural" cycle of life and death whenever he incarnates. When you say "Vampire with long blond hair who is vehemently clinging to his human side instead of his vampire side", who exactly comes to mind? Curious, isn't it?
It is also important to note that while yes, Nasu had wanted to write Tsukihime for quite a long time by 2000, likely predating even SOTN's release, just not being able to piece it together properly, Roa and Crimson Moon are both originally characters from a prototype of Notes, and Tsukihime was originally about a middle aged man hunting Arcueid and raping a bunch of high schoolers while he was at it. Oh and Nasu had a Playstation before writing Tsukihime, so it's basically guaranteed that he played through SOTN.
Then we have Nrvnqsr Chaos. I am of the belief that Nasu read the line where Alucard states that the castle is chaotic in nature, hence its ever-changing layout and general appearance whenever it rises again, and turned that idea into Nrvnqsr. He cannot determine which familiar will come out of his Reality Marble, which is more or less in-line with the unpredictability of Dracula's Castle's layout (his monsters are also reminiscent of some Castlevania ones but this doesn't matter too much). He's also turned into an insane monster massacring countless humans (though he does it for energy here, not for revenge) due to being a vampire for so long. Still not convinced? It's a tall haughty vampire obsessed with power (to be more specific the only thing he cares about is finishing his magecraft theory and also turning the world into a primordial sea but that's not too relavant right now) who throws shit at you from his coat and laughs while he submerges into goo, becoming invincible while he does so, until he rises back up again in Melty Blood. Come on.
Warachia is an extremely blatant example and the most shameless ripoff besides Vlad III in Apocrypha. Not that I'm complaining, I love the guy. But seriously, he's LITERALLY Dracula. 500 year old vampire who resurrects from time to time, of course the TATARI aspect of him is mostly original, but the appearance you know him by is him literally pretending to be the mythical vampire Dracula from the rumors spread around the time he died since in the lore the vampire Dracula doesn't exist beyond well... myths spun around by his enemies and the work of novelists after his death.
But besides that, the whole arsenal is here:
He has fireballs he can throw from his cape, he teleports around, he can summon previously fought bosses (something final boss Dracula does in SOTN) and his design just screams Dracula overall.
The TATARI storyline is more or less a blend of Rondo of Blood and Castlevania 2, Sion (Sion, Simon, funny huh?) is "cursed" (bitten but doesn't turn instantly most likely due to being ESP) and has to defeat Warachia before she turns into a vampire herself, which is very similar to Castlevania 2's plot of Simon Belmont being cursed by Dracula right as he vanquishes him and having to revive Dracula by gathering his parts and killing him once again before he succumbs to the curse and dies.
Sion uses an ether whip and martial arts, she's basically Richter gameplay wise, like how Warachia is Dracula. She even has a sliding kick like him.

I suppose all of this might be obvious to some of you guys, but I have seen almost nobody bringing stuff like this up. There are some other things besides this concerning these characters, I just yapped about what came to my head at the moment. Again, don't expect anything soon, but I'm working on it, and there's more stuff than just these observations about these characters.

Gilgamesh's melee capabilities are really understated and underutilized. I personally blame Urobochi for cutting out the Sea of Fire fight from his Fourth Holy Grail War.
inb4 "Saber is a better swordman" obviously, but he can still match her by cycling through his weaponry nonstop (refer to Fate route ending) which I find to be quite cool.
