>>50948967We all start somewhere, anon. No one is good at photography (or anything) from the start. They build that skill over time by taking thousands and thousands of mediocre photos while they develop an understanding not just of how to take photo good, but what "good" means for them in the first place; art is subjective like that. Keep taking photos and don't worry about if they're "good" or not, but instead just have fun with the process. And in time, you will develop the skills to improve your craft, and determine what you want to achieve with your photography, too. We're a bunch of grown adults playing with dolls, at the end of the day. Don't take it too seriously.
[Hoshisuna Monogatari: Mahiru and Maya] 1/6 Scale Rooted Hair Doll [RELEASE: JULY, PRE-ORDERS START APR.9 2026]https://www.1999.co.jp/eng/11367909https://www.1999.co.jp/eng/11367910
Fuck. I ordered some of the new Dolpa 55 outfits from Volks JP the other day because I thought it would take some time for them to show up on the US store and I really wanted one of them ASAP, but they just got listed on the US store today and my order from JP still hasn't even shipped yet. Probably saved a lot of money ordering from JP anyway, so maybe it's not all that bad. (A ¥8,700 outfit (~$55) is $96 on the US store for example).
>>50950373>(A ¥8,700 outfit (~$55) is $96 on the US store for example).yeah, but the problem is the Volks' oversea shipping fee (2200yen) + tariff(10%-ish) + import documents fee($15) that you will have to pay on top of the $55 vs $96...I think in the end you'll save only about ~$8.
I won't turn this into a tariffs thread but I'll just say that I hate this shit and leave it at that. I miss Mandarake...
>>50950581I think your math is assuming I only ordered the one outfit, but I actually ordered a few things, so the savings should be more than $8 in the end. The part where I really fucked up is that I actually placed two orders. I got the email while at work and just ordered a few things that I really wanted on my break as I worried they might sell out, and then had a more thorough look at the offerings after I got home and placed another order for more things. So I'll have to pay the shipping and "import documents" fees twice. Oof.
>>50950633The more you buy, the more you'll save!
All this camera autism when the subject matter is forgettable and trashy cause you're all dumb gooners.
>>50950867I'm sorry you're having a bad day, anon. I hope tomorrow is a brighter one.
>>50950373>>50950581I can tell you right now it's still going to be cheaper to order from Volks JP even after the shipping and tariffs, especially if you're buying multiple items. Don't beat yourself up about it. Your doll isn't going to notice that she doesn't have her clothes as fast as someone else's doll anyway.>>50950592The trick is to just buy in bulk. The tariffs on imports from Japan aren't that bad. It's that stupid fee on top of the tariffs (I guess the paperwork fee?) that's annoying, but it's not so bad when you have a larger/more expensive cart of stuff. Certain shipping options also have the tariffs included in the shipping fee so you're not surprised. I can't remember which ones off the top of my head, though, sorry.
>>50953092Cute! Digging the naughty librarian vibe. Have a pic of my cat as thanks.
>>50953092bro look at my lawyer i’m going to jail ToT
>>50953153Thanks! Very cute neko! But I think her wig might be worn too high, perhaps her bangs should be adjusted downward slightly?>>50953761What if she is your prosecutor?Just plead guilty already.
>>50953153That's her, officer, that's the girl who stole my tuna sandwich!
>>50955071>bangs should be adjusted downward slightly?Yeah, her wig is pretty tight and tricky to get on. She's got a bit of a five-head as a result. I really should fix that lol.
not mine, just bumpin'
Thanks to the Anon from last thread who recommended size 7 rings as bracelets for 1/3 dolls. She's very happy with her new bling.
I might get some size 5 and 6s for less dangly versions, and maybe a size or two bigger might work as an anklet, although I should probably measure. She's going to be a very spoiled young lady.
>tfw wanted a dollbot for like a year now and still no new models for sale that arent tan males
>>50963945>>50963955It looks good on her!The bracelets look correctly sized.
How did yall get over that initial barrier of taking your dolls outside for the first time?Any tips? Like just dont do it around your neighborhood or something?
>>50968488>initial barrierWhat is your insecurity about it, anon?Just be more based and enjoy your hobbies.
>>50968488>taking your dolls outsideI know it doesn't sound like good advice, but the best thing is to just not worry about it. My experience is that the people who give me looks are almost always "huh, that's not expected" and it doesn't go any deeper than that. If you act like you're doing something embarrassing or gross, people are going to assume that you are. If you carry yourself well and act as if nothing is out of the ordinary, people will treat you just the same.
>>50968807I live in an area with a lot of young families and eldery and don't want to freak them out even moreso because I already stand out here because of my race (dont live in america so etiquette is a bit different here)Also dont want to get my doll dirty or broken from anything.. dont really have a good stand for outdoors? or carrying caseBut I want to take some fun pictutes ..
>>50968872Gay and cringe.Get a haircut.
>>50969604>gay and cringe>in a doll threadyou think that's a revelation for anyone in here?
>>50969811Wait.. You're all homos? You're just adding insults to injuries here.So... Do you plan to fuck off to /lgbt/? Genuine question.
>>50969549If they get dirty, you can just clean them. I'm not saying to treat your dolls with neglect, but they're more hardy than you might think. You can get "proper" carrying cases if you want, but you can also get cheap tripod bags that work much the same. Stands are also most helpful when the doll is, well, standing, so you can just take pics of her sitting down if you don't have a stand.
>>50969549>a lot of young families and eldery and don't want to freak them outThis is all in your mind. Have they actually been freaked out by you? Just get over it and be more based. Its not like you're selling drugs or dancing nude in public.>I already stand out here because of my raceI don't know the specifics, but racists exist everywhere. But, I believe most people aren't racist enough to care that you are taking photos of a doll. If some racist comes at you, its probably not your fault and definitely not because you are taking photos of a doll outside.>dont want to get my doll dirty or brokenAnything can get damaged or broken. Just take good care of it like anything else, a car, a watch, and don't be careless.>dont really have a good standJust buy one or have your doll leaning against a wall or tree. Try sitting poses. Taking photos invokes your creativity!>carrying caseLiterally just need a bag. You could hold your doll the entire trip like something precious.>But I want to take some fun pictutesThats all it takes! Go outside and have fun!
>>50968488I just take them out and take photos of them as if I were doing to to any other object I see, such as a flower, a boat, or whatever I think is cool. I like lower traffic areas because I have more space to do my set ups but that's about it.
Often, when I'm having an especially bad day, I'll sit at my computer with a doll in my lap, and it will, genuinely, make me feel a lot better. I'll even sit there, holding their hands. I don't know if this is a good or a bad thing, but it definitely is the truth.
>>50971622That's a good thing imo. I regularly hug and kiss my dolls, and after a bad day I'll put my favorite jam on and dance with them. I can only encourage anyone to do the same, the mood boost is real.
I recently visited Yosemite. I hiked most of the time but I squeezed in some time to take some doll photos.
>>50969549It's easy to tell strangers on the internet "just do it sunshine just be yourself" but if you have a bad feeling about it then follow your gut. Remember that the person telling you this good feel shit might get around his daily life in a fursuit with his cock out for all you know. Male + dolls here will brand you as gay or a sexual deviant who fucks dolls, possibly a pedo, and other unwashable bad shit I would never want to deal with. I would never take the dolls anywhere I can be recognized.
>>50972297yeah I feel like most of the replies are autistic white women that dont exactly understand where im coming fromwhat im worried about is not people not liking me lolgoing to try and get one of those volks mdd carrying cases though because im afraid of a bag staining the doll desu
>>50971622Just looking at them in my room, all cute fills me with joy.>>50971983Nice photo! Very cute!
>>50972359Always go with your gut, but don't be afraid to try something new. I'm in rural West by-god Virginia where it's common for people to answer their door gun in-hand, and at most when I'm out photographing dolls (or toys, or stuffed animals, etc) I will get people coming up to ask me questions about what I'm doing and why. In the age of instagram and tiktok, if you walk around holding something weird, but also a camera, people seem to just assume it's an internet thing in my experience. Little old ladies will come over not to ask why you're in their neighborhood, but to tell you in detail about their porcelain or reborn collections. And if other people are a worry, take them on trips if you ever go, whether it's on an actual vacation or just innawoods, assuming you go outside (no judgment if not, the woods is a luxury not everyone can access if you're in the middle of, say, the desert.) Being aware of your surroundings and how people might act is always good, but I think people, especially younger ones, tend to overestimate how many fucks people have to give about Joe Random they pass by on the street. This is no weirder than taking photos of your meal for a blog, and far less obnoxious by comparison. (Of course, if you have no interest in doing any of that, that's fine too. Just having them at home to look at is also lovely.)
>>50973925Every time you mention West Virginia I imagine this Little House On The Prairie village where they don't go near the woods cause they saw Miku in there
Well, I did plan on spending some time going around and taking doll pics this long weekend. I guess God had other plans for me
>>50974408Rain here also.I guess it will be in-doors pics instead.
>>50974091NTA, but Blair Witch Project was filmed some 30 minutes from where I am at in Virginia. I could recreate that with Miku>>50974471I might just travel light with a rain coat/umbrella and hope for the best. I guess you'll find out tomorrow afternoon if I made it out, mhm
>>50974496>Blair Witch Project was filmed some 30 minutes from where I am at in VirginiaSpooky!>I could recreate that with MikuTHAT Miku
Ok this is funny, I got the Azone PNM miko outfit for my Pure Neemo Bocchi... and it's too big. From the size chart, it's "little big but can be worn" for the M torso, but calling this "little big" is rather stretching it
>>50974408>>50974496So instead of outdoor photo shoot, I bought some acrylic nail stickers for like $2 awhile back. It takes some work to apply and trim them doll sized but they are actually quite nice quality!>>50976009It does look a bit large. Is it around 1/6 scale doll size? You might be able to do make adjustments to it.
>>50976009Yeah, you might be able to save that by pinning the hem up. It is pretty funny though, at least you get a good meme pic out of the exercise.
>>50976053Yup it's 1/6. I may have to adjust the hem as nothing else I have would have a perfect fit.>>50976067Bocchi is always memeable no matter how I dress her up
>>50976053Oh yeah, her nails look fantastic, thanks for the idea!
>>50976053>acrylic nail stickersPlease no, Anon. I don't need another rabbit hole to go down. I've already been raiding the local craft stores and Amazon for bits to make jewelry and props for my girls. Everything I see is giving me more ideas but I don't have time to make them all as it is.
The quest for more bling on Alya-chan continues. Turns out size 10 rings are perfect for ankles, if you don't mind taking the foot off (small screw at the heel).
>>50976537Here's the whole look, with a new pose.
>>50976537Those look really good. I keep forgetting to look at cheap rings to see if they would make good bracelets. What size is good for wrist, do you know offhand?
>>50976682Size 7 for the wrists, or maybe 6 if you want a tighter bracelet. All the jewelry she has on is from Amazon, except the necklace and waist chain, those are bracelets from the local Walmart. I'm having so much fun making sure she's, well, all dolled up!
>>50976700>>50976682Always check thrift stores and other similar places for doll shit, as well. You never know what you'll find.
uh so I just learned about sun damage to dolls and figures and stuff and uh so does light through a window count as direct lightdo i need to move my shelf lads
>>50976792you should probably move them away from direct sunlight, but it's usually not a huge problem unless they're directly facing the sun nonstop outside or something. even a bit of glass helps slightly dilute the incoming UV strength. just put some curtains on or just re-arrange stuff
>>50976872ok thanks sister
>>50976537>>50976538Absolutely iced out. Nice.
>>50974408I chose to brave the rain and went outside. Skies were grey and it was surely wet, but there wasn't any rain (yet)>>50976053>acrylic nail stickersThat is actually a great solution for doll fingernails. They look great!
>>50976890I wanted to bring out my 1/4 today but, with the high chance of rain, I wanted one that I could carry under my coat easily if the skies opened up
>>50976896I wish I fiddled with setting more when I took this one, since I really like the framing, but it didn't turn out too well. It can't be helped
>>50976899Park #2, which was only 100 yards from the first one, was when it started properly raining, so I didn't take many pictures
>>50976890She's so cute, who is she? what is she?
>>50976792yes, and yes
>>50976890>>50976896>>50976899>>50976902Cute! Pics turned out pretty nice for a rainy day!
>>50976009>>50976103Unless you changed the body, default Bocchi is Pure Neemo S, not M. Dollyinsider is a good resource and has all the details for 1/6 Azone releases including body type, price, skin tone, etc
>>50978043>DollyinsiderThanks for this. Azone's branding for their doll bodies is really confusing. I've lost track of the 1/6 stuff. For 1/3 they did, what? 45(S/M/L), 48(S/M/L), 50(S/M/L), then AZ02(C/G/I)? What the heck was AZ01?
>>50978160>Thanks for this. Azone's branding for their doll bodies is really confusing. I've lost track of the 1/6 stuff. For 1/3 they did, what? 45(S/M/L), 48(S/M/L), 50(S/M/L), then AZ02(C/G/I)? What the heck was AZ01?I really hate that Japanese companies never list their measurements.
Coppelia at Momocon!
It's nice out lately, and I'm finally finding some free time to go take photos
>>50979446Cute. I wish my local con had a doll meetup.
>>50977951Thanks! Rainy days aren't great for romping around and taking pictures, but it was a fun little experience.>>50976923She's the TinyFox (Arachne) I got a little while ago. I haven't taken her out as much as the others, since I want to change her wig/eyes some. Her fullset has this cute back ribbon, but it really messes with her long hair when you move her around, so it is not ideal for the sort of pictures I take. There's a couple of other things I want to fiddle on too, but she's getting there
I went out with Junko for a little, and took a few photos.

>>50981307>>50968872Wait a fucking second I was thinking the same damn thing. Are there THREE West Virginia anons?
>>50981307Close. This was Seneca Regional Park, so not too far off from Scotts>>50981314I live in Virginia, although I'm only about 10 minutes from the WVA border
This is a very silly BJD. The fact that it came with pillows with pink ribbons makes it even more silly. Glad I was able to win medjed for a good price (twice). I went to Egypt 9 years ago with my Mom so its somewhat sentimental as well.
>>50981734I struggle to understand anything about this.
>>50981734Anon I cannot overstate how much I love this silly little guy.
>>50981741He was the guardian of the house of Osiris. Now he's the guardian of my house of dolls
Do you guys have recommendations for 60cm doll sized tanuki ears? I saw this Mamizou custom which looks neat, but the ears look too big and kind of wrong.
>>50976899Those are nice. What did you want to change in this one?>>50979446Cute outfit!>>50979873>>50981140I like those lovely hats.>>50981734This little guy looks quite funny. In my head he is associated with a song from taiko no tatsujin, I had no idea where he came from.Show us more of your doll family...
>>50982540>What did you want to changeI probably would have played with smaller apertures, since the blur on that brush makes the background a bit, well, blurry. This is one of those cases where a narrow depth of focus makes everything feel kinda flat, I think. I still like the shot, but, little things like that
I have a Holo dollfie I made
>>50984616Cute!>>50984648Also cute!
>>50984648Excellent! I love Holo, she's very cute anon!

im in debt for dolls
>>50985129Shockingly common for this hobby. Would you like advice for getting out of the debt or did you just need to confess?

Very pretty!>>50985129That ok as long as you have means of paying it off. People get into debt for cars and other hobbies too. At least the bank probably won't repossess your dolls like a car.
Rate my new doll girlieShe doesnt have a name yet
>>50986046Did you do her faceup? It's cute.Try thinning the paint more (and getting pastel for eyeshadow/cheeks/lips)I like her vibe.
>>50986046Cutie Pouty emo/10!Nice coord' anon!
>>50986074Thanks, I did do it myself! I should've mentioned that this was before I did any pastel work.Honestly I thought I did a horrible job and was going to sand off and redo the entire thing, but then I started falling in love with her and now I can't bring myself to do it.>>50986718thank you! I just sculpted the lips to make a little frown, hopefully i can find the energy to finish her soon
>>50986046>>50986739it's quite a good faceup, elegant af
Ah look who's back on the operating table. Maybe a 4th time will get the Imomo body into something decent. The local library has a 3d printer, so I've been prototyping connectors to fix the shoddy lower body frame. I might swap everything below the knee for Obitsu GGR parts, but ehhh that's money I don't really want to spend on body that'll be (maybe) replaced.
>>50986046Wow, I'd legit be down for offering some cash for the whole thing if there was another one. Nice work!
How in the fuck is 4chan one of the sane/level headed spaces in this hobby? I pop in to other doll communities from time to time, and holy shit people are fucking insane, you come here, and everyone is supportive and nice outside of the single troll here or there. It's wild.
>>50987541less women
>>50987559But, I thought we were all little girls here?
>>50987376Sounds like a lot of jank to deal with. Nice boobs, though. I'd at least try to salvage the chest parts.
>>50987541Out of curiosity I checked out the bjd subreddit once. One of the first posts I saw was someone complaining that the occassional lewd/sexy doll outfits are "problematic" and "objectifying women".So yeah this is the only sane place.Dont want to derail so will post dolls once I get home. Got a bunch of outfits I havent put on a doll yet.
>nooooooo how dare they dislike my trashy gooner shit in the middle aged woman dominated hobby space those heckin' bigots!!!!!fucking kek
>>50987541The vinyl doll academy discord is really chill outside the owner being weirdly strict about some things
>>50988324None of my dolls wear trashy gooner shit. Just cute gothic lolita, some jirei kei and some trad dresses. Sometimes some risque underwear and legwear mostly hidden. Nobody is obligated to like everything. Its just psychotic to bring politics into this and try to portray the things you dislike as some moral failing. Its very much a reddit hivemind thing to do.In the first place plenty of middle aged woman like dressing their dolls in slightly risque outfits too, as you said the hobby is dominated by woman, most social media isnt exactly anonymous.
>>50987782The boobs are nice, but Imomo's real standout point is the lower body proportions and stomach sculpt. On the vinyl side of things only Dollbot is comparable, and good luck getting those. Thankfully there's a growing selection of shapely hip parts.
>>50988490>just psychotic to bring politics into this That's the world we live in now. I think it increases my enjoyment of the hobby that I don't talk or post about it anywhere other than here. I have a xwitter account but never post, it is just for following company feeds for product announcements and such. Otherwise I avoid social media like the plague it is. That way I can enjoy dressing up my girls any way I want without having to get crapped on by these 'people'. Here's a pic as thanks for reading my blog.
>>50988497>DollbotYeah, I wanted their Kinako really badly but couldn't figure out for the life of me where to buy her that had open order slots, what proxy/forwarder I'd have to use, etc. luckily Seaside Peach came to the rescue with their version.
>>50988490>None of my dolls wear trashy gooner shit. Then why do you feel called out? Nobody complains when it's done in good taste
>>50988504 #Yeah I get it. I also deleted my social media a while ago even though it means missing out on a lot of cute doll pics.>>50988532 #Because good taste is subjective. And while dont like trashy clothes I do love cute clothes but risque situation/shot.Anyway Big Shoes.
>>50948548I tend to avoid BJD communities like the plague due to their behavior. Even though I do prefer resin as a material just because it's much less stain prone. I greatly prefer the anime asthetic though, but there's a ton of resin sculpts that cater to that now. I feel I fit in much more with the otaku and MDD side of the doll sphere. Even though I probably wouldn't buy a vinyl doll body again because of the anxiety of staining it.Maybe hybrids are the master race. Vinyl heads on resin bodies.
>>50988324You say this but its those same middle aged women who post dolls in skimpy outfits. Hell, just look at the rise of agelphilias, it's mostly women buying them
>>50988716It's almost like there's multiple women with different mental illnesses out there!Sometimes the nooo don't sexualize my microkini loli or w/e does coincide and I'd love to know how that works out in their minds but not at the cost of opening up that interaction.
>>50988716Don't even get me started on the fetish gear they put their husbandos in.
>>50988878I'm pretty sure the Japanese otakus posting their MDDs in micro bikinis are not posting in the western BJD subreddits. And if they were they would be complaining about that and not objectifying women. What it really is about is plastic dolls making grown middle age women feel insecure about their own appearance. That's always what it is when somone mentions objectification. But I'm not sure why you're arguing on their behalf here, they wouldn't step foot here and can't see you defend their honor. It's not the place for it.
>>50988562>picKind of dawa.
>>50986046>>50986739She cute anon, If you want to redo anything (I wouldnt shes really cute), assuming thats vinyl and you used mr super clearcut, you can use isopropyl alcohol to wipe the paint (and sealant) off, just reapply some sealant before you paint again.
>>50987541Ive never browsed reddit for BJD they dont like Anime dolls thereDolldream forum, Instagram or Xitter are the places for our kind of BJD
>pre-orders go up in the middle of the night (my local time)>Went to bed 11:30, woke up at 5:00>sold out by morning Every damn time. I wanted the blue one but I have to sleep sometime. Does Azone just hugely underestimate production quantity or do they just keep most of the order slots for there own stores to block out as many gaigin as possible? Sold out on HLJ as well.
>>50990401set an alarm and go back to sleep nigga!!also for some reason azone is hugely popular with chinese scalpers right now so you have to buy it pretty much instantly or its joever
>>50990401What >>50990422 said. On the bright side mercari and Y!JA will be flooded with them when theyre shipped to the scalpers. Though you will have to pay scalpers prices.

>>50990422>>50990450I've set an alarm before if I have a pretty good idea when pre-orders are going live, in this case I only had the date. It's just like getting Bandai stuff from HLJ. It's possible, but you have to hit a 15-minute window with little advance warning, usually in the middle of the night, and compete with Chinese scalpers to boot. Oh well, I'd rather do without than reward a scalper, because like >>50990472 said it will only make the problem worse.>>50990952I looked there too, forgot to mention. They might have opened up briefly around the time you posted, but both closed again by the time I checked. Oh well, better luck next time.
Is it time to let these shoes go yet?Nope. Time for repairs!>>50988562Cute but she might want to go shoe shopping.>>50991679I agree with not rewarding scalpers, but I think of paying the extra as hiring the guy to stand in line for me. Volks' click war lotteries are a waste of time scam to stay awake for. Speaking from experience.>>50991538>>50991541>>50991544>>50991546Very cool DJ!
>>50992164Do share your process, I have some that need repairs as well.
>>50992190I find that for shoes that JB weld original works best. But it takes like 10 hours+ to dry. It doesn't stick at all after you just applied it, so you might need a clamp just to hold the pieces together. Super glue and Rubber cement does not hold at all for shoes. For pleather surfaces, its a pain. Completely sand off the good and bad cracked parts of the surface and repaint with leather paint. I wouldn't bother if its some minor cracks.
>>50992228can second this, I just did the same thing with a set of heels. Unfortunately for me the pleather peeled off the heel on mine, so now they're gold spike heels.
One of the worst parts of this hobby is that it's become impossible to go to a crafts store and just buy the one thing you actually need. It's always 'Oh that would make a neat accessory' or 'Oh I could totally make a cute dress out of this'.
>>50994582Tell me about it. I just found out my local craft store started carrying a whole bunch of 1/12 dollhouse furniture and thought to myself 'oh no, I'm going to go broke'. If they start bringing in 1/6 stuff I'm doomed.
soooo I've been out for awhile of jpwhat's the deal with the autosage?this generals been literally for years
>>50995040Threads autosage after 2 week(iirc) on /jp/.I have no idea why this is.
>>50995040The board started autosaging after two weeks a few months ago and it has not made the board any more active or improved things in any perceptible way, but jannies gonna janny. It would be nice to at least have a reason why.
I should have checked the belt... Next time I go there I'll bring a more sportsy outfit though.
>>50995556>>50991538>>50991546Very cool!! You always find neat clothes, where did you get those?
>>50988562>good taste is subjectiveno it's notthere's no reasoning with delusional autists
