Thanks for the compliment, the Daft Punk shirt is a custom order from AngelMarieBoutique on Etsy, and the jean jacket is from Nine9Style but I customized it myself with the rhinestones.

I have a confession to make. About 3ish years ago I bought Azone's Akebi-chan, I was even able to score the DX version with the summer uniform and a little desk for her to sit at (actually there are two for some reason). She was my first doll and after opening the box for a quick look I closed it back up until I had time to build one of the desks since I didn't have any stands for her. Fast-forward and I've bought 5 other dolls, an ever-expanding stash of clothes, plus stands and other accessories. Meanwhile, she sat in the box in a closet for so long I forgot I even owned her. I remembered her finally this weekend and unboxed her thinking she'd be sticky from plasticizer and/or stained from her clothes (she comes dressed in her winter uniform). I'm pleased to report that she is totally fine and is now hanging out with the rest of my doll family where she belongs. I still can't believe I forgot all about her, I feel bad but also relieved that no harm seems to have been done.

At worst, people here will complain about recasts but it's very rarely brought up and even if you post a recast here, unless you both explicitly call it a recast and defend recasting in that very post, then people here won't hound you.
This is probably the least cliquey place to discuss bjds on the internet. Anywhere outside of here is way shittier with their hatred for any type of doll that's outside of their very tiny sliver of "acceptable ones".
>>
>>51016332
Yeah, it's so weird how DoA was all "only resin bjds" and excluded vinyl and porcelain. It just seems like such a meaningless distinction.
>>
>>51015192

in what way? I've never seen any kind of doll get posted that people didn't faun over. The only time people are standoffish around here tends to be when someone stirs up some shit.
This is primarily a vinyl BJD thread, but any scale or material BJD is welcome, we just don't deal with fashion or fuck dolls. There are other threads for that.

I went last year, but just for the shopping. It's nice and people there are pretty friendly. There's also a LOT of gorgeous dolls people bring and display. Worth it if you're local, totally.
>>
>>51016376
ww See they didn't actually exclude ALL vinyl dolls, so it was even more ridiculous than you'd think. As long as you're mentally ill enough to drop at least a few hundred dollars on a doll, you're good people in my book.
>>
>>51017070
Yeah, there was the grandfathered dolls from before they decided to go all resin. Still weird, they could've just did different boards for different types or something.

I went out to more parks over the weekend. This one was a bit funny, since a group of hikers (10 or so people) came across me as I was taking some of these pics. I ended up chatting with them a bit about cameras and they were, seemingly, pretty interested in me using an inverted tripod setup for this one. Naturally, the doll sitting on the log was not mentioned.

The other "park" was a cafe (I'm not sure how this one works out) that I was planning on getting lunch at. However, there was a high-school graduation party going on, and I really didn't want to take pictures too close to that, so we found a little spot out front that was as far from the children as I could get.
As a side note, if anyone else is on the fediverse here, I started throwing my pictures up on there (coppersmith@pixelfed.social)

Cute! I like the pics by the river, it seems she is daydreaming and lost in thought out there.

I spent the weekend painting.
I went to the hardware store and asked them color match the dollhouse's wall paint color.
They did a good job. They just used their machine to do it to scan a piece of the wall.

I used it to paint some of the doll furniture I had because the original bright white color sticks out like a sore thumb against the house.

Now I'm debating whether to apply antique glaze paint into the crevices.

Some tripods don't let you do it, but it is when you mount the camera underneath the legs like this. It does mean all your photos will be upside down, but it lets you get stable shots with your camera almost on the ground. It isn't a wild technique or anything, but I suppose most people never think about it because there is no need for them to get the camera that low. I usually don't bother, and instead lie down for these shots, but this was a sandy area (and there were people watching me) so I didn't want to get too dirty.
>>51019944
I should check out more gardens, since they're really fun to shoot at. I've been to the closest one to me recently, but I don't think there are any others within 90 minutes, so it might be a while before I go out and give those a look.
>>51019635
Thanks! It'd be more work, but I think that the glaze would help match the furniture to the walls, if you wanted them to be a super close match that is. At the very least, that exaggerated depth would help mask the fact that these are scale objects too.

How do we feel about nendoroid dolls? Personally they where my gateway drug into dollfagging. I like that you can use the blank bodies and the head from any nendoroid you happen to own to make a doll version. But the clothes are expensive for how small they are (although I can understand with the amount of tiny stitching required) and the selection of clothes hasn't been great the last couple of years. Usually it's just been a certain character's outfit and not very much generic stuff, to the point that I wonder if Good Smile is losing interest in the line or it just isn't selling well. On the upside, I can have a chibi doll of basically anyone since there's thousands of nendoroids, even if they'd never get an official doll like Azone's Pure Neemo or Another Realistic Character lines. Like these cute horses, for example.
>>
>>51021551
I know a lot of people customize nendos with Obitsu 11 bodies for better posing ability and more clothing options, and I think people who do the work of customizing them to look like their favorite characters/oshi/etc are very talented. Crafting at that tiny scale is beyond me. I won't let myself collect any, however. I know what a gateway drug looks like.

>>51001375
If the light blue is what she has on right now she will be perfectly fine! The only colors you really have to worry about are dark colors and red. Pastels pretty much never stain. Her faceup is really cute.

>>50997808
I know that Azone clothes had issues with staining in the past, but they seem to have gotten better about it in the 2020s. Plasticizer is less of an issue with dolls vs figures as well. She's very cute, my gateway to dolls was also a lone Azone girl (who I actually bought for my spouse) who we left in a box with mishappen hair for a few years due to moving. After a few years I took her out I felt sorry for her and fixed her hair, fast forward several years and now I have a billion 1/3 and 1/4 daughters...

Most dark clothes do not stain instantly and only occur over time, unless the material is fucked and you can usually tell if it's fucked right away. Stains on the body are also fully treatable and although are annoying are not that big an issue, just be careful about the head and faceup. If you are really worried, I would only tie the ribbon around her chin for photos and either display her without the headdress or tie it behind her head for longer display. The red apron and ribbons on her sleeves aren't making contact with her skin, so those shouldn't be an issue. Also dealers that use vinyl dolls as display models are slightly better about materials (though not always so it's good to always be wary), Chinese dealers are usually the best about it in my experience

They're different sculpts, the Shampoo one is a rerun but the Akane one is new. They look VERY similar though, but the mouths are where I see the most difference. I'll post the other pics they shared.

Idolmaster girls are always a mystery to me, I don't know who any of them are, the Final Fantasy is a Chimikko like the other anon said already.
here's the sites for both dolls with details

Thanks anon. Hope shampoo's new outfit will be sold separately via lottery in the after event. I heard two new YoSD's are included in the kyoto dollpa, any pics of the little gremlins?

Somewhat tempted by Akane but holy same face. (I can see the lips differ slightly)

I always thought girl Ranma was pretty cute, but the real question is how to get the P-chan plushie?
>>
>>51030014
Really would have preferred a Boy Ranma version if they were going to do re-releases.
>>
>>51030016
need ddp hiro.. (sister is too fat..)
>>
>>51031533
Dollpa 56 for sure.

I thought that shampoo and ranma weren't super popular because both were available in the after-event online via lottery (shampoo) and click-war (ranma). But maybe volks produced more expecting them to be popular given the age of ranma fans ties into the core SD fan base. Though ranma is still available near-retail on mercari.

I guess they were popular enough to warrant making akane. If male ranma gets produced it will be the first anime tie-in since Black Jack to get 4 limited dolls.

>Lottery
>Click-war
Those are the words that make me hate this hobby. The Japanese obsession over limited edition everything is so annoying. I get that you don't want a bunch leftover but if everything is selling out in seconds you can surely increase your production totals by 2x or 3x and still sell out within a day or two.
>>
>>51033020

No, think Gucci, Hermes, Porsche, Rolex, etc...
Artificial scarcity drives human demand.

Should be done when she arrives by the end of the month.
It's wild cherry wood, gorgeous.

Its worse than you think with Volks. Most stock is sold in person at Dollpa. And to get something at Dollpa you have to pay to get a random number ticket that determines your place in line. After-event sales happen in-person in stores. Then the rest trickle down to online lottery. And Chinese and Vietnamese scalpers are rampant at Dollpa and the store events. Thats why most limited dolls are bought on mercari from the scalpers that line up in person. Oh and for the after-event in stores if you don't get in line 3-4 hours before opening you're SOL.

Its gotten so bad that Volks now asks people in line to name the product they're lining up for, and they confiscate their numbered tickets if they can't answer.

Chinese scalpers thought the dolls from Dollpa 55 would be as popular as the recent volks × pink house collab. They thought wrong and now there's tons of these dolls on mercari for near-retail because people who actually wanted to buy them lost the lottery to scalpers.

It is 100% bullshit and I will 100% keep giving Volks money so nothing will change :^)

Anyway the LA Dollpa one-offs and event lottery dolls were announced. The Japanese seem pretty jealous of the US dollfriends getting a special Tae doll.

yeah, its a nice one.
Is it a new sculpt? I don't recall the original.
>>
>>51034023
Yeah, I'll stick to Azone, thanks. At least then all I have to do is wake up in the middle of the night my local time and hope I can beat the Chinese scalpers to a pre-order slot, and even then I've missed out. Some of the Volks stuff looks nice but multiple layers of lottery is way to intense for me.

>Those are the words that make me hate this hobby. The Japanese obsession over limited edition everything is so annoying.
I agree and I hate that too, but the solution is to simply drop Volks, and you'll be mostly free from that culture. They're not the only option any longer. Unless you want the official licensed doll of the fotm anime and pay for the volks brand name you can simply buy one of the other 100000 legit dolls on the market.
>>
>>51033020
Only semi related, I see new collectors complaining about this with Azone but they only started having semi-clickwar very recently and very likely just don't have enough production capacity to make a ton of each release. I don't remember anything selling out quickly, let alone instantly, a few years ago... They also distribute preorders/orders to a ton of different shops and not just their storefront and big retailers like Amiami, I know multiple smaller official retailers that at least get a few dolls reserved as stock for each drop. Look at their most recent preorder, it's a year and a half production time.

It's only Volks that has always done this (which I hate) but I dislike seeing new doll collectors bashing Azone, Angel Philia (though certain dolls did sell out very fast in the past, it was still easy to get via official retailers), and Obitsu for not producing enough when they've never sold out instantly until late last year/this year, and now there's material shortages...

>>
>>51034846
It's ok for a first attempt.
I have access to heavy machinery, CAD software and CNC milling machines.
Working wood by hand isn't easy. You need a lot of equipment or it takes a lot of time and efforts.

Start with laminated wood. Or even cardboard to prototype your model and get the measurements right.

Volks News dropped today, we also got another new doll. This is the new DDdy 2.0 standard model Tsukina. Which hopefully means DDdy 2.0 stand alone bodies will be here soon too.

Nice!
I've been hoping eventually for their Alna 2nd updated version like most of the other girl's re-releases.
>>
>>51039334
The only insane part about DDdy is the waist man, let women be curvy
>>
>>51033342
That looks really nice, makes me wish I had the space for a woodworking setup. Then again, looking at my giant pile of unfinished sewing and 3d printing projects, maybe it's a good thing that I don't.

>>51041700
NTA but I never liked the ridiculous bolt-on boobs on the DDdy. Don't get me wrong, I like massive mammaries as much as anyone, but there needs to some natural sag to them.
>>
>>51041997
Didnt they used to have like two versions? I know the one now is like, shaped to emulate how they are with a bra on, but I though there was one more they had with no-bra style of sort of sag

DDdy does have a normal and a push-up bust but the main difference is in the cleavage. Both look like they're floating in zero g. I know that some people modded the old DD-L bust to fit on the DDdy body so maybe that's what you've seen. Here's both DDdy busts and the DD-L bust from volks website for comparison.
>>
>>51042102
Left two are pretty meme to me but the right one I dont mind.. Can always go those silicon ones but I hate the dust lol
>>
>>51042075
They must sell a lot, because I swear every other outfit collection Volks drops has them again.
>>
speaking of dynamic bodies, hyped for corvus corax
>>
>>51041700
Like the other anon said, it isn't like I hate big tits or anything. I think the main thing is that they are pushed up without any bra, so my brain says something just isn't right. The large DD chest looks fine to me, it is once you move up to the dynamites that I start to not care for them. Regardless, when they're fully clothed, I rarely have an issue with any chest size.
I am a report card chest guy at the end of the day, so take all of this with a grain of salt too.
>>
>>51042201
Nah, I get it, they just don't look right. Which is a shame, as I like the hips on the DDdy, but I'd have to try and mod on the smaller DD L chest.
>>
>>51042201
The censorship will make them even worse. Just two balls below the neck...
>>
Outside of Booth, do any stores sell 1/4 or 1/3 Touhou clothes for dolls? I wanted to try to make a Clownpiece or Sanae doll if possible.
>>
>>51045094
There's official Volks dolls of some of them like Reimu, Marisa, and Cirno, but they've all been sold out for a while. Used stuff pops up here and there

Petite Marie has some decent options: https://www.amazon.co.jp/stores/page/0CEC44CD-9D02-4CDE-B416-CAB289C1B299

Ginger Tea has made some Touhou sets in the past, but not recently, so you'd have to search used stores for stuff like this: https://order.mandarake.co.jp/order/detailPage/item?itemCode=1257605270&lang=en

Past that, not sure what other options there are aside from expensive YAJ one-offs
