no computer guy here. i sat myself down last night to see if there was anything i wanted to watch and i couldn't really come up with anything. i either already have it from avistaz, i already ripped the stream from elsewhere (ok.ru/bilibili/9tsu/etc) or the movie was popular enough to be torrented in FHD/2k
i'll try again for some movies in the japanese academy awards page or something, but this made me think about how i feel like i've experienced pretty much most of what j-cinema and jdrama has to offer as the entire industry has a "status quo" mindset when they make content
i thought kokuho was going to blow my socks off but i thought it...was just ok. maybe i'll check out the novel later.
>>
>>51014426
> i feel like i've experienced pretty much most of what j-cinema
You haven't until you watched every Kurosawa Akira (J-Cinema Face) and Ishii Teruo (J-Cinema Heel) film.
>>
>>51014529
funny story: i used to cram kurosawa movies into my english reports all the time back in high school until my teacher pulled me aside and told me that it was great that i liked kurosawa, but i couldn't just brute force it into my essays when it had no thematic relevance to the topic lol
almost 40 now and i still think about that from time to time

I mean, that's normal. There's only a finite quantity of good stuff, or even less if you limit yourself to "classics". That's why I don't "force" myself to watch anything, even when I know that i'm gonna love it. I let stuff find me at the right time.
>>
I'm a bit disappointed that with
Furuhata Ninzaburo and Trick both being on netflix, no one has ripped those releases and thrown them onto avistaz. Mainly because I want the JP subs
>>
>>51014568
i watched the yakuza crossover when it was posted here a few weeks ago. i really like the older more romanticized yak movies made in showa. it's a bit hard for me to watch the newer ones seeing the state of them in the current year

>>51014592
yep. at the start of my japanese learning i really thought that i'd be engaging in every single piece of jp pop culture that i could find but it turns out i'm the sort of person who constantly needs the format to keep changing and give me new things in order to find it interesting. this is more in tune with how we enjoy content in the western world compared to how the japanese love tradition, familiarity and not straying too far from the foundations as a sign of respect to previous works.
i should've paced myself a little more and given myself time for introspection and appreciation instead of watching wrt quantity.
>>
>>51014697
here's a longshot suggestion for you: there's an uploader on opensubs called ichi131 who regularly rips sub batches from netflix/amazon to the dismay of the japanese users there. try DMing him and he should do it for you
>>
>>51014733
I'm kind of on the same boat but for me, rather than the novelty, it's the quality that bothers me. I guess there are 100, maybe 200, films/dramas left for me to watch. I don't want to stomach the rest which kind of sucks because how else am I going to learn by listening to 'real' Japanese voiced by non seiyuus and not burn myself out in the long run.

Honestly I'd be happy if I could just read books, which there should be a ton more, but I'd feel like a fraud unless I polished my listening.

While the vast majority of content on Netflix has subs, there are still a few shows that don't. Last I checked, Detective Conan still doesn't have them. They're very pro subs, but occasionally they just can't get them.

>I'm paranoid it'll get my account banned
They do not care. I switch IP probably 50 times a month, geolocking is a rights holder issue, no company cares if you happen to "hop on a plane" in 2 minutes and start using your account on the other side of the world.

>>51017382

netflix, amazon and even youtube are very hands off on VPNs. for a long time you could sign up for YT premium with a VPN from turkey for $1.50/month and they wouldn't care. it might even still work actually.

Interesting
>>
i have only looked up live action version of animes ive watch. are japanese people just bad at acting? or are actual tv and movies good?
>>
>>51019938
japanese acting is inspired a lot by kabuki so there's a lot of overacting. then there's the conventions depending on your genre, like jdrama the pace is very frantic because they put in a lot of actors per series and they all need to get their lines in.
for anime adaptions it leans a lot on tropes and caricatures so more often than not it feels like a campy acid trip
>>
>>51019938
Japan never had the naturalistic and realism movements that Europe had in the theaters, and so the basis for screen acting was kabuki. The second issue is that most actors aren't really actors, they're just retards with pretty faces attached to products to promote pop music.

There are bad and good actors in Japan, but by western standards they're basically all over-acting. I recommend Hanzawa Naoki as an example of good kabuki style acting that might help you grasp the appeal.
>>
>>51019946
now that i think about it, there's no official j-actor training pipeline or actor lineage there (like strasberg for example). closest thing is maybe like actor-director pairings like kurosawa-mifune?
when half of your current actors come from horikoshi the bar is set pretty low
>>
>>51019708
Dont forget, get's Aya Hirano to play Makima in the stage play.
god I wish I was in Japan so I could see that.

Neo gets his company back 14 years early and can now use his future knowledge to make 10x trivially, Eito gets to enjoy his life. Instead he just larped as Neo for 14 years while getting cucked for no reason? And then disappeared. Oh, and then the protagonist dies at the end.

It was mildly entertaining until this point.

BPO are a big part of it, but they are not the only reason. For example, news shows are very biased in Japan, and with the rise of social media, people have realized how one-sided and manipulative news shows are. Another example is NHK forcing people to pay a subscription fee just because they have a TV even if they don't watch their shitty shows, so young people don't even have TVs in their homes anymore. Another example is the internet where services like Netflix and TVer provide everything you need without having to tune in at specific timeslots.

This is a universal trend, not exclusive to Japan

Beat Takeshi on Bunshun and other weekly magazines and tabloids
>There was a time when it felt like weekly magazines represented justice. You know, if something was written in a weekly magazine or a newspaper, we’d naturally assume it was the absolute truth, right? But in recent years, it’s become clear that these stories are written solely to sell magazines. When readers take in this information, they can’t accept it as unquestionably true as they used to

No there was and still cases where they do justice. For example, when former PM Uno Sousuke resigned after a geisha exposed him in a tabloid for engaging in an affair with him and not paying her money.

this english language film with Hidetoshi Nishijima and Gwei Lun Mei aired at a festival almost a year ago but there's no solid plans to release it for wider distribution. what gives?
>>
>>51057142
i have found a copy of it online and i can see why this will likely never see the light of day on a streaming platform

Why? Sounds like it's something that Netflix would like to add to their library

How do these comedians keep falling for it?? I like how they had to cut to the moment of impact, probably because the ball was so slow moving that they looked too stupid standing there waiting for it.

you don't have to watch them. the vast majority of jdrama is still shown on their homegrown platforms and channels

Any recommendations where atmosphere and scenery comes first ? The ones I've seen that hit that mark would be something like: little forest(all 4 seasons), one million yen girl, A Gentle Breeze in the Village, Maborosi.
