As a fresh outsider who luckily made it to the village you're still getting used to things. While trying to familiarize yourself with the village, you see a sullen looking women sitting on a bench. Other people generally ignore her presence, and you can tell by that clothing she's likely one of the supernatural people living in Gensokyo. You've heard that yokai don't cause trouble in town so you decide to try to cheer her up.She immediately tells a horrific tale about a lunarian convincing her husband to kill her son. But that she vows to get revenge someday. Apparently the lunarian is locked up in some prison on the moon but is also immortal, complicating matters further."You know, where I come from there's a saying that the best revenge is living a happy and fulfilling life in spite of the one that wronged you."Her eyebrow raises, "How would that even begin to get back at her?"You scratch your head a little, "Well if someone who wanted to wrong you or see you miserable instead sees you living a happy life, that's gotta drive them mad. That despite their efforts they failed, you know? She's done a rather awful act against you, but it sounds like you can't avenge your son by taking her life. So your best bet on revenge would be psychological in this case. You shouldn't forget your son or anything like that, but you can always find happiness and love again."The woman seems to ponder your words for quite a while. You're about to leave her to her thoughts when a smile appears on her face. But there's something off about it, there's an almost manic joy in her face. You didn’t even make it halfway through the trek before you were swarmed. Thankfully, they weren’t rabid yokai wanting to tear you limb from limb. Not so thankfully, they were a trio of wolf tengu who were hellbent on devouring you another way. You didn’t learn this until much later, but it’s their estrus cycle right now. Apparently, you were very lucky to get off with just a couple bite marks and minimal bruises in your first encounter. After making a mess of both your face and crotch, you were dragged back up the mountain and landed right where you are now.Tengu society is both very different and very similar to human society. They’ve got a social hierarchy, a market, and everything. It kind of surprised you how amicable they were. Well, if you ignored the blatant racist remarks that is. Speciesist? You don’t really know. The only thing you do know is that-“Oh there you are, husband. Come on. It’s my turn for mating today!”The only thing you know is that you won’t be getting off this mountain any time soon. Safe to say, you threw caution to the wind and blew up at her. It surprised even you that your voice managed to get that loud. You hurled insults upon insults at her. All the while, she simply responded with a cheeky smile. At the end of your tirade, you had apparently said something that offended her. You don’t remember what. Her smile turned in to a look of disbelief and frustration. If looks could kill, you’d have died ten times over. After that day, the amanojaku became a constant in your life. Sometimes, she’d stop you out of nowhere, and with a furrowed brow and fangs bared at you, she’d spout the kind of lines you’d expect from a happily married wife and mother-to-be. Other times, she’d shove a gift in to your arms before shoving YOU on to the ground and flying off. It’d become so commonplace that the locals nicknamed you “The Amanojaku’s Prize.” Eventually, you marched up and over to the Hakurei Shrine in an attempt to deal with the situation. You hoped that the shrine maiden could scare her off or something, but unfortunately, you were met with a dry response from said shrine maiden and an explanation from a walking miniature that the amanojaku’s name was Seija and that this was all her way of showing you how much she hates and despises your very existence. Nice to know, but ultimately useless information. So, you wandered back home to find your new lifelong hater had broken in and cooked you dinner. She gave you a disgusted look as she walked past you and out the door. All that being said, it brings you back to where you are now.With a small sigh, you cut in to the cake and take a bite before washing it down with some tea. It’s delicious.

This makes her particularly angry. There is no way that this random villager was more beautiful than she is. Why would you turn down her invitation in favor of spending time this girl instead?>Despite her obsession, she still manages to put on a dignified face on the occasions that you do visit and pretends that you aren't driving her insane. Kaguya knows it would be a bad look for her if you knew what she was doing so she always tries her best to make sure her interest in you never seems too strong. At most she makes the occasional flirty pass at you but you always just laugh it off as though it were a joke and it takes every ounce of her strength to maintain her mask of civility when you do. Of course, the easiest thing for her to do would be to state her feelings and intent to you but Kaguya still feels restrained by the trappings of her station. She is royalty, it would be unbecoming of her to be the one to confess her feelings, especially to a commoner like you. She has everything she needs to win you over and force you to be the one to confess. It would be a great personal failure on her part if she wasn't even able to do that.>So Kaguya continues driving herself mad with her schemes, her household looking on in concern. Mokou too is aware of Kaguya's predicament and considers telling you about it whenever she has to escort you to Eientei but she feels as though that would ruin the payoff of this whole thing. Instead she eagerly waits for the moment that Kaguya snaps so that she can have a laugh at her rival's expense.Still one of my favorites from past threads.
