It most likely has something to do with his Origin or his oni abilities, the former being more likely in the Remake due to Shiki's Boundary shtick. Most likely, after dying and being resurrected they see their own Origins through their special eyes (SHIKI has something like pure eyes, he can see Akiha's Origami and also has MEoLP).

It's also shown directly in the manga. SHIKI has a ton of abilities and has the largest moveset in the OG VN. It's a crime he wasn't put into Melty *BLOOD*.
