hello everyone! i recently dropped a new miku cover of a classic song only a select few might recognize (you're lucky if you live in a place where this was a hit when it came out)...here, i used a different VOCALOID UI for the first time and i'm trying to get the hang of it...tuning is still bare bones, but i hope you guys enjoy :)https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZbfIvm917vo
as of now, i am still on the grind of making my own original music again, and i actually do have instrumentals already finished, however all are lacking vocals or lyrics...gotta give it to them, writing lyrics under a theme is not easy...

DenkiQujira posted an MV earlier, but it's not a new song. Still, it's a great song just the same.https://youtu.be/O0bvnyGPdFM
how does the licensing work? why do some artists put the software name as the vocalist name?
>>51096119How new are you?For real. All vocal synthesizer softwares usually have their own licensing terms, but generally you pay for its license and any music you compose using it is yours. The software is listed as the vocalist because they're singing it. They're the vocals. Vocal synthesizer software is characterized as imaginary anime girls(or boys) and they're treated as the singers. I have no idea why you are even asking or where your confusion lies.
>>51096119There's no licensing. It's only tradition for a song to be credited as Artist feat. Vocalist. If it's a Vocaloid song, you want to communicate that so Vocaloid fans will listen to your Vocaloid song.
>>51096219I only recently started using spotify, they listed the vocaloid name as vocalist and even as feature.>>51096220I was under the impression that you need to pay extra money to have vocaloid feature in your song. What if I use pirated vocaloid software? can I freely add featuring hatsune miku on my monetized youtube video?
>>51096270Pirating is illegal, no shit you can't do it
>>51096278How'd they even know if my audio is using pirated vocaloid or not? matter of fact howd they know if i even using vocaloid at all?no reason for me to not be able to add feat. hatsune miku at everything so long it sounds close enough
>>51096280Kys
>>51096270- The characters and base designs themselves are licensed for non-commercial use under Creative Commons BY-NC (https://piapro.net/license). There's also the Piapro Character License, the legacy license before Crypton adopted Creative Commons, but Crypton says you can pick which one you want to follow.- Purchasing the software gives you the license (that's the pesky EULA you always hear about) to use a voicebank for effectively any/most purposes. Using pirated software obviously grants you no license to do anything.- If you use the character in conjunction with commercial use, that's when you're expected to seek approvals from Crypton. To reiterate, music made with a purchased copy of Vocaloid is fine to monetize. Small scale doujin activities generally are fine too, but that's a more nuanced can of worms.>>51096280Obviously no one will know if you're too marginal to care about. People scam and misrepresent to great success online now more than probably any other point in history, but you'll still be labeled with a scarlet letter in the community to some extent if someone learns you pirated the software. If at some point you achieve success and anyone looks closely at whether you crossed your t's, you're liable to get fucked for something you could have avoided by paying like 100 bucks.
And it's not just Crypton btw, depending on who it is you have to check who owns the voicebank. Crypton is just Miku and her 5 other friends.
>>51096289>- If you use the character in conjunction with commercial use, that's when you're expected to seek approvals from Crypton. To reiterate, music made with a purchased copy of Vocaloid is fine to monetize. I've waited a while but now I'm just concerned and disappointed. Maybe if I fry my eardrums and go half deaf, it's something I can't hear? >>51110508just use slsk wishlist searches, i rarely come on, i don't care at all anymore.
>>51110334the problem is they took that statement way too seriously like it's a request from god and now they're thinking thal all yuki songs SHOULD be about cats and nothing else, especially songs like zako and even the more explicit songs before it like FHCG. how hypocritical considering they let violent/depressing songs using yuki free: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bvtt1y4mMaoyou don't see this nonsense on spaces other than the west btw, they still do whatever tf they want: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nBhVy47hWCU
>>51110334it's because she said this that you have fans going "we need to keep yuki pure and write songs about cats and stuff to honor her wishes! and that evil zako song goes against that!!!" it's why there was a weird period where you could find random notable english vocaloid producers having some random yuki song(some not even on their main channel lol) that was vaguely related to cats. The act of associating yuki with cats became some weird virtue signal thing rather than an organic result of fans wanting to do a cute thing for her voice provider

>>51114668>Western zako derangement syndrome is hilarious when songs like this exist without even a speck of dramaI think this is because Westerners (I can't figure out the right name for them) can't read Japanese or effectively search for Jap Vocaloid songs, and they rely on Twitter, Discord, and Youtube to show them songs.People on those platforms (particularly Twitter) are very susceptible to bandwagoning, so when they see others saying "this song is pedophilic and evil because such and such," they'll eagerly hop onto the trend either to shit on that song or defend it from the former.Misinformation and hypocrisy spread like wildfire in this environment as well, like with Kaai Yuki's ToS being treated like inviolable religious commandments when not even Japs adhere to it.

>>51116418Twitter is the absolute best place to keep up with the activities of Japanese artists you care about. You've poisoned your own well by interacting with posts-- whether just interacting with screenshots posted here, or on your own Twitter account. If you only care about Vocaloid characters, rather than producers, maybe you could form a different opinion. But I'm only here for the music, and I really don't have any particular attachment to any VB/character at all.
>>51116422I haven't had a Twitter account in 3 years partially due to Vocatwt and I genuinely feel so much happier for it.>If you only care about Vocaloid characters, rather than producers, maybe you could form a different opinionThis is actually something I'm going to agree with you on. People who idolize producers are setting themselves up for disappointment, especially if they're on the Western side of the fandom like I always was. People who hate producers and seethe at their works are also very unhappy as a rule. Focusing on one's favorite Voicebanks or songs, however, is almost always a good thing.
>>51116418If you were around in 2013 you would just be calling them newfags, that's why it's a tell.

>>51116433And why would I call someone a newfag anywhere that isn't 4chan? It's bad optics when you're not just a bystander and actually have things to lose.
>>51116473For what it's worth I don't think newfag isn't useful for anything other than stirring shit either. "Newgen" and "Vocatwt" are similarly useless labels to short circuit discussion, but precisely because it's not just calling someone a newfag that they've taken on this perceived legitimacy in recent years. Call it codeswitching if you'd like, but it's equally easy to look on with a similar derision when any of these terms are tossed around. The point really was that they have become part of the Vocaloid fan lexicon rather recently. It becomes a tell when this thread, on 4chan, is littered with those usages instead.
>>51116486Ah, so I misunderstood the original intent of the post then and thought you meant its usage in general and not in the thread. I've definitely noticed a problem with drama tourists myself, and I admittedly sometimes get sucked up into it. Being afraid of saying 'fag' on 4ch is certainly a sign someone's new, though.

>>51118577The beginning tuning sucks, the rest of the song is just fine. I really wish FF didn't have Jamie insert leitmotifs into every song.People saying that "every producer has a style!" forget those producers also mix up the melodies they use. Maretu has a very recognizable style, but Magical Doctor sounds nothing like Uminaoshi. You can't say the same for much of any Jamie song.
>>51119010Never listened to Jamie so i never notice any of the leitmotifs in question. I do like some FF songs though.
>>51119042That's fair, I just notice them because I've heard some of Jamie's singles. The most obvious example of a leitmotif shared is between Human and Machine Love. I think it's okay if a song is about the same character or as a callback to the beginning of a song series, but Jamie has a tendency to overuse them.

The Night series of songs by Samfree are so fucking good!Megu Megu Fire Endless Night:What I feel right now is the truth itself.Casting magic that will outlast eternity,I will love you more than anyone ever could; So, will you love me too?Yuka Yuka Heavenly Night:Uncover everything there exists—Oh I know, I know it well:The power of faith will bring about miracles,For the answer to everything lies within you.Ia Ia Night of Desire:Even if the innumerable stars were to forget their shineAnd the road forward were to lose all light,I care not for groping in the dark, as we desire each other,The moment our fingers touch, comes an overflowing fever.Lily Lily Burning Night:My soul burns fiercely;Everything I do, I do for your sake;Every time you embrace me strongly, oh so strongly,This excelse fever grows satisfied—but it will never stop!I love you, I love you, I love you, forever! The lyrics are so passionate and beautiful, and the music enjoyable and catchy.

>>51118577all the comments are saying the song is this positive thing about being yourself or whatever but thats not my takeaway at all. to me it reads as a song about being addicted to returning to abusive relationships and putting yourself in that role to get hurt by other people because you think its where you belong. not stockholm syndrome but resignation that its the closest thing to love that you're capable of receiving due to your nature, so you take the abuse while you can, hoping it doesn't end, and coming back after it does over and over.
>>51121316So much for "change" as an album theme
>>51121389idk maybe i'm turbo projecting cause i'm having a hard time dropping someone who used to do that shit to me. its hard to tell if the comments not mentioning this reading at all is because theyre retarded or because i made it all up.
>>51121316I thought it was also very negative, but I know for a fact the average Flavor Foley fan is 16 or younger so I'm not expecting the brightest minds to be in the comments. From personal experience I was a fucking retard and needed my Vocaloid song meanings spelled out to me most of the time.
>>51121316I feel like the song is about having to face the consequences if you ignore all the signs and just go with your gut. The song does tie this into authenticity, since ignoring the signs and putting feelings first may be interpreted as being authentic. The message broadly is that authenticity and rules tend to clash and that the singer (Iroha) values their authenticity over their safety and are thus willing to accept and even cherish the consequences of their actions, so long as they are authenticI also find it difficult to say whether the message is positive or negative, I feel like this may depend heavily on the viewer, but I agree the language used may imply the song is specifically about relationships

>>51121950I consider middle blue if that answers you. So, Miku is blue.
>>51121834Being both is something Miku has greatly taken advantage of. Sometimes she's really blue, sometimes she's really green, sometimes she's in the middle. Thinking about it, Miku never really color matched well with any of the other Cryptonoids. Which I guess is another reason Teto works well with her.

So what does it take to make a new mikudb with people that actually care about preserving and sharing the albums?
>>51123788What's stopping you from opening a Blogger or Wordpress site and posting entire albums there?
You know, with the whole "Miku custody passing" throughout the FIFA World Cup, all the way to the Final, my mind goes all the way back to "Little Scarlet Bad Girl", especially that one iconic MMD video in Iwara. And I'm pretty sure some of you still remember that video. It just hurts how every single time since Japan lost that Miku gets passed to others, on top of Essie exacerbating the issue to its absolute worst for her Murphy's Law.
>>51123683I was going to say that Haku is the biggest but then i realized who made this art
>>51123809i think that world cup miku thing is stupid and it's mostly tourists that kept it going after the brazil vs japan match.
>>51123818You could immediately tell since people didn't take the chance to make art with the popular norwegiaboo
>>51123888Yeah. Still, Little Scarlet Bad Girl. Anyone remember that?
>>51123799Sure I could do that with the stuff I have but also looking for more albums that I can't find, and don't know if anyone here would want a blogger with only 50 albums
>>51123809>>51123818It's literally just a tourist meme. No one who matters cares about it.
>>51124048it is a tourist meme, but every match of the world cup has people going "erm, engerland has custody of miku, miku doesn't speak to british people lolololol, maybe argentina wants custody of miku hahaha, now spain won her lololol" and every popular "online culture" publication keeps trying to ride the meme too. So people treat it like it's an actual fandom thing, which is dumb and annoying.
>>51124163I think I would mind it less if every country got their own Vocaloid when people did the meme, but because it's a tourist magnet, they probably only know of Miku, Teto, and if you're lucky other Cryptonloids or Yi Xi or something.I want to see English Sonika, Spanish Maika, Argentinian Bruno, maybe, since Brazil wants Miku, Japan can get Teto or Gumi.
>>51124178Fully agree but Bruno is from Spain lol
>>51124184He is, but Miku is also from Japan. I think playing with the country of origin for the countries that don't have an equivalent Vocaloid could be cool if done right.
>>51124190Not going to happen lol, all these tourists will ever know is Miku or Teto. We should gatekeep whatever loids we have left.
>>51124525>We should gatekeep whatever loids we have left.Which is all of them minus 2
>>51119010using maretu as an example when he has a good chunk of songs that sound completely identical to eachother is interesting. couldn’t think of anybody else?
>>51124545Samfree sounds completely identical across the board to me and Masa has been rehashing all his other songs for the past few years, maybe GHOST but even GHOST has a lot of songs that sound completely different.
>>51124554We don't talk shit about samfree around these parts, tourist
>>51124576I like his style but it all sounds the same to me so even when I first heard his songs over a decade ago, they never 'grabbed' me as strong as they should. Back then if I wanted to listen to classic JP Vocaloid it was usually Machigerita, Joruzin, Lamaze, Pinocchio-P, or late 2000s/very early 2010s Utsu-P
>>51124579You probably only heard his Night stuff you casual.Take a look at the very last song he published and tell me how it's the same.
>>51124642I did because you pointed it out, and it's not something I'd go out of my way to listen to, but it's brilliant on a technical level, and I really like IA's tuning.
>>51124650Now compare it with the very first song he published
>>51124657Excellent point, anon. I concede. If anything, I think his first song is actually my favorite that I've heard so far. I think a lot of Western fans, even long time ones like myself, unfortunately only know him for his Night series. As Miki Miki Romantic Night was the first one I heard that's what I tend to associate him with, and I'm glad he had more variety than I thought.Which makes it even harder to find a good comparison for Jamie Page. I genuinely cannot think of a 'perfect fit' for a comparison. That level of melody reuse is something I've seen pretty much exclusively from amateur producers (asides from the ones I've previously mentioned, Masa in particular being way worse about it than Jamie at times, but even Masa had some wildly different songs, like Bloody Mary sounds nothing like London Slag Party Hi)
>>51124178>they probably only know of Miku, Teto, they dont even know Teto, they created a viking Miku when Teto is the biggest norway fan lol

>>51125032They absolutely know Teto, they just dont know anything the character itself beyond whats shown in Mesmerizer>>51124525>We should gatekeepNo need because they don't care about them

the last few flavor foley songs haven't really gotten the level of success you'd expect they'd have by now given their clout, what's the deal with that? is it really something as trivial as "vocaloid fans don't want to listen to songs that don't have miku/teto?"
>>51126995There's no such thing as being a producer where every thing you produce will always be a super giant hit. Things that get 10s of millions of views are the rare aberrations. Having songs that hit into the 100k-1 million mark is already excellent. If you really have a Vocaloid heavy algorithm, you see outright fully produced MVs with less than 1k, possibly less than 100 views. Having a huge subscriber base or clout as you call it just guarantees a minimum view count of sorts. We have literally already seen this throughout the decades with the big names who have stayed in the game that long like Deco and Pino. Their mega hits are few and far between. While their lesser MVs still get millions of views, their lack of legacy/impression tell you they're the songs that get seen due to clout and having millions of subscribers.
>>51126995Also, on the topic of that last question. Flavor Foley's first big song was Butcher Vanity which featured fucking Yixi. The accusation that non-Miku or even Teto songs don't sell is a myth and it's only the recent Mikuteto trend that gave that idea any leg to stand on in the first place. The Hall of Immortality has an extremely diverse array of synths in it. Really, the best indicator of if a song will do well isn't how good it is, however you might try to define it. It's simply a matter of how easy it is to listen to repeatedly on loop. View/listen counts don't get high because every single person in the world watches it though that helps. It's because a substantial amount of people start listening to it again and again.
>>51127039not saying every song of theirs needs to get butcher vanity numbers, but it's absolutely worth noting the drop off between Static and Spoken For compared to what they've released since. Despite getting decently sized hype cycles for their next song, it doesn't translate to actual video success. Ego Renegade Boy, for example, everything leading up to that song suggested it'd be their next "big hit" on the level of Spoken For and Static, all the prerelease stuff got the same hype, they got a big JP artist to do the MV, it released as a headlining part of vocacolle's exhibition yet it got nowhere near the same success. so what's the factor there? everything about how the general audience had perceived the song was near identical to their previous big songs, yet it completely fell off a cliff in actual longevity despite not even being a worse song by any means. Hell, even their most recent song has already started stalling much sooner than other stuff they've put out despite also being a catchier and much easier to listen to song with a more relatable theme. It's really to a point where I genuinely would ask the quesiton "would this song have done better if they had used Teto instead?" and the more pessimistic view of the community side of me says it probably would've for no other reason than "more vocaloid fans would rather listen to a song with Teto than they would Iroha"
some MVs re-made with paperhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kYYgIULkyXohttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TM5C5wU2m6k
>>51126742>without OliverThen what's the point
>>51127066I think it's just because their latest song is actually the worst one they've made so far, and with Rawdog and Queen of Venus it has pretty stiff competition. Ego Renegade Boy is good, but it's not nearly as good as Butcher Vanity or Static, so I can unfortunately sort of see how it dropped off.YouTube also changed their algorithm again so that could also contribute.
>>51127066It's the same reason why Creature by Satsuki only has 1 million views. Having great production, doing everything "right", following a formula, it doesn't guarantee anything. That any formula seems to work for any time itself is an illusion. Trends themselves aren't formulas as well. There were an excessive number of hits during the Mikuteto boom, but the reality is that there are plenty of dud low hit Mikuteto videos. In particular, mega success in anything is vastly unpredictable. That the songs aren't being panned and still getting views in the million range is already a success. The metric for success being a mega hit is grossly unsustainable. You can't expect 10 million+ views for every song.
>>51126411This is a level of shooting off your foot that I haven't seen in the while. He's just started to have some break out success and now he's decided to go under a name that he won't put out there in collabs or appearances?

>>51127074I like this one a lot more than Ego Renegade Boy, the song being good or not also often doesn't correlate with the view count most of the timeAlso some songs get a massive increase in views way after they come out, Weathergirl struggled to get 1mil at first, now its getting like a million per month
>>51127873True, it's really just a gamble of the algorithm + the music video a lot of the time. Vocals help tourists and people in the community a lot, but those aren't the majority of views of the really big songs if I had to guess. It's mostly for autists like me that will click most things that use a real Engloid.
>>51126411I think my biggest concern under the new name is that he will ditch vocaloid and uses real people like Daoko. That song was ok, but My Terminal ended up being one of favorite song of his. Hopefully, it's a new name same sound kind of promotion and not an altercation.
>>51126995Simple: I see Tito, Migu or Gumy i click
Of course they’re going to use Miku for that—she’s literally in Fortnite (and is more popular than Teto). Besides, since they’re tourists, they don’t care much about the singers' lore beyond "oh yeah, she loves baguettes" and the occasional viral meme.

Where's the main social hub for vocaloid community? I mean, I guess even in Japan there really isn't one?I guess you could say this general and /r/vocaloid but reddit is fake and gay, and NGL this general has slowed down a lotI kind of miss vocaloid otaku forums, their activity slowed down a lot too thoughfor japan, do they even have places to talk about Vocaloid? I honestly have never seen it besides random 5ch threads. I guess the culture/memes/discussions just happen/take place on the video platforms niconico/youtube/twitter and fans chat/share on discord channels and doesn't interact with the smaller pockets of the community (reddit, this general, 5ch) I'm just wondering how memes and stuff form with such low activity, like the zundamon and the chicken mv, and the new a i voice popularity. I guess it's just nicovideo, twitter, and discord forming the memes / community nowadays
>>51130361Vocaloid alt-chan. It was mentioned ITT already.
>>51130361This >>51130368 and also Vocaverse and Utaforum still exist
>>51130361I can only really name one in Japan, but it specifically focuses on MMD productions and far less so overall Vocaloid topics. Current trends sometimes get shared there but that's it, really. On the English side only the previously mentioned 39chan comes to mind. I've actually been trying to find places that primarily house producers instead of just passive fans, but I'm still empty handed on that.>>51129592Local OpenVINO, actually.
>>51130361i miss this lil nigga like you wouldnt believe
>>51130368You're crazy if you think that is a "main social hub" for anything. Same applies to this thread.VO, Twitter, and Tumblr in combo is the closest we ever got to a main hub, but it's not like there has ever been one hub in Japan either.
>>51130384Being more popular by numbers alone does not make up for the fact that most of them are secondaries, kids and tourists.
>>51130384I can excuse VO, but Twitter and Tumblr being closer to a main hub?
do not come to /leek/
Speaking of Vocaloid forums. Does anybody actually use the VocaDB forums for actual discussion?. Yes they exist.
>>51130371Vocaverse from what i've heard is only active because of the news threads
>>51130392I can name atleast 4 people
>>51130387Social hub would suggest it being a place where people actually congregate in numbers. By this measure a cosmos of Discord servers is the main social hub for both Japan and overseas.>>51130389You really can't dispute Twitter even after all it's gone through. After 2ch fell out of fashion it was the entirety of the Japanese scene, besides YT and Nico, before Discord became more important.
>>51130399FiguresI think most people aren't even aware that the forum exists
>>51130392I said it before but I just reply to posts out of pity because no one answers them otherwise.
>>51130384Not him, but as someone who has been using Vocaloid myself for a very long time, there's a reason I do not have Twitter and seldom engage with the community at large, preferring the altchan. Tumblr has a select few "good" people in the community, though the majority are as stereotypical as you can imagine. Discords for Vocaloid or UTAU are notoriously horrible unless you're in a PRIVATE producer or archival server, especially since the average public server perpetuates the Western community's love of schizoposting, lying, and dramamongering because someone did something bad over half a decade ago or personally made them feel jilted somehow. I've seen it happen to several people I know as well as myself. I'm sure JP Vocaloid is a lot more relaxed and less explosive, though.>>51130392I don't, but I'm very obsessive about inputting entries I notice are missing, and have been the first person to input sub-100 view songs on many occasions. I probably should go there, but I don't know if I will.
i wish the VocaDB forums were more polished because currently they just feel like a comments section with subjects
>>51130401All the "big" social hubs suck though, apart from here, alt-chans and VocaVerse, you're forced to interact with kids and tourists who know very little if anything at all about vocal synths.. Both twitter and discord are horrible in this respect and they even come here sometimesI can't speak for the VocaDB forums though but this is likely not a good sign
VocaVerse feels like its missing something VO had but i cant put my finger on it

>>51130372>ProducersThat would be discord DESUI started one of the first producer servers when discord started. I recruited a bunch of random P's from twitter and VO forums mass spam pming them, this was 2015 though and I've since quit using discord and gave that server to friends long ago to handle, it's probably not even active now.But I noticed discord was way more active in the early days, I don't know why, but many of the servers became slow/inactive slowly.I'd say best servers for producers right now areSynthV main server (Mods are triggerhappy SJWs)A vocaloid server that's secertly shared here for older fans every now and then (Probably the best server I've joined)the main big vocaloid server (just go to producer section)and for japan, but it's barely active now, songsters internationalbesides that random dtm board threads on 5ch still pop up, I remember reading some guy asking if his song can become a hit and it was the WORSE POS MIXED SONG EVER hurt my fucking ears, and everybody was shitting on him lmao
>>51131143Well damn, dunno if I should consider myself lucky or not that I know pretty much none of those places. I guess I could observe 5ch more, I haven't been there since the open2ch clique cannibalized itself and activity in the NanJ private chats plummeted.
>>51131237All of it's really pretty slow, best thing for discord is finding a few friends and chatting in direct messagesthe big vocaloid server (legit first search result with 80k members) producer section was fun, sometimes big discussions happen. >>51131720>ust don't talk in general, the owner is known for banhammering ppl he doesn't like(he's only in general) lolNot him but that's the exact reason I never joined the big utau server. I've heard they're very trigger happy about their bans and don't fact check what someone may have done. It can be as simple as "Glorpo Shitto-P was mean to Gleeble!" and they will ban the first guy. Or "he makes me uncomfortable!" being a bannable offense. Not to mention the fact a grand majority of its posters are Redditors and that's never a good sign. I have genuinely heard way more bad about that server than most other Vocaloid adjacent servers in recent memory.I've also heard Vocal Synth University is also extremely fucking bad from multiple people. It's supposed to be a big producer server owned by someone in the Western community.
this might be a long shot, but i was looking in old 4chan archives and i found this link: http://www.mediafire.com/VocaloidSongs this has lost media songs from producers, and the thing has closed direct linking so i was wondering if anyone here had it or anything as i cant seem to find the person that made it
