pretty sure I was into this hobby before they showed up, but that is completely irrelevant, it made anything 1/3 completely unsearchable, and if you might wanna look at this hobby, it's mainly 1/3 dolls, so everything is fucked
hope you enjoy looking for stuff for your dd because it's not existing

No you weren't. They've been around since the 70s. Larpfag scrote.

Where are you searching, anon? A lot of places (not Etsy anymore, and fuck them for it) still support search operators, so instead of searching "doll clothes" you can search "1/3 60cm BJD clothes -blythe" and get better results, for example.

Luckily, My order arrived just before the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) mandatory eFiling rule on July 8, 2026. I was worried because too many sellers use DHL.
I'm not sure if this will affect bjd imports in the future because if anything is mislabeled as toys for under 12 years of age or some other affected stuff, then the bjd and /toy hobbies will be affected.

>>51092001
Cherish your own health and friends and family around you more than plastic toys.

On a side note, I do think 1/6 and Blythe scale have been around longer than 1/3 stuff. Even Volks made 1/6 regular dollfies before they made 1/3 super dollfies and dollfie dreams.

First time poster here.
I've wanted a BJD for like... 20 years at this point, but in the past I either didn't the money or lived with people who just wouldn't let me enjoy stuff in peace.
Now I'm solvent and free enough to finally get one. However, I'm a bit torn. I want certain types of bodies and certain types of faces, but not everything I want is easily available and I'm worried about compatibility.
So... What do you think about 3D printed dolls? I've seen a few models that look a lot like what I want, and I could also make my own stuff too.
Anyone has experience with 3D printing dolls? What type of resins, or really any kind of advice would work for me.
Thanks!
>>
>>51094193
3D printing really isnt as easy of an option as it seems you need a really high end printer and good luck getting the joints and colour right, not sure if you can easily get the 3d models either. Especially without having a reference doll to compare everything too. Better to start modding a doll than start from nothing. Even if you end up being able to replace every part you can more easily check if clothing still fits for example.

What exactly are you looking for? Anime Style or more realistic Resin. MDD is popular enough that there is a huge variety in official and unofficial doll parts and there are a ton of faceup artists for prettier faces than the volks defaults.

For "realistic" I like asleep eidolon faces a lot.
>>
>>51094193
I've modeled and printed a head and various accessories. I'd advise against trying to make an entire doll from scratch, especially if you never owned a BJD before. Get a body you like and make your own head, then once you've got that done try replacing parts of the body.
You'll want to use impact and scratch resistant resin, otherwise the joints will grind themselves into dust which is not only bad for your lungs but also ruins your dolls ability to hold poses. You'll also want to use resin that's in your dolls skincolor. Forget about printing in gray color and airbrushing, the paint will rub off from the joints.
Resione released a line of dedicated BJD resin that has all the properties you need and comes in a variety of different skin colors.
>>
>>51094423
You don't need a high end printer for a BJD, something like an elegoo Saturn 3 12k is perfectly fine and costs what, 250 euro?

>>51094538
you'll get best results if you use a 3D printer for master parts you fit & surface finish, then recast with proper doll resin using silicone molds
but yeah also might be a bit for a first BJD

I had really wanted to stay longer but there was a 'no trespassing' sign and it was really hot that day so I gave up. Those were still in-use, live, railroad tracks...
>>
>>51094118
>Those are from different cameras right? Do you shoot with both during each session?
Yes, the color one was with my digital camera. These were taken with the 4x5 film camera (then the negatives were scanned with the digital camera and inverted). I think the most cameras I've brought to a shoot was 4. 5 if you count the phone. Sometimes I use multiple, sometimes I'm shooting multiple because I'm trying something new and want at least one usable shot, and sometimes I'm sure I get what I want with just one.

>>
>>51096508
Only affects USA importers, you have to submit documentation of "laboratory testing" that your import product does not contain harmful chemicals and lead, etc. This applies to certain stuff, but not everything. Toys for age under age 12 is affected.
>>
>>51096508
>>51096650
And the main issue being that there is no HTS code for collectibles for adults (think premium bandai, big dolls, model kits, etc.)

It looks like you can file a disclaim form with special add-on codes and provide those but no one knows exactly how/when/where to send the forms yet.

No cookies, that's for sure. Although it occurs to me that pregnant bellies for dolls have a huge advantage over the real thing. IRL preggo bellies only last a couple of months, a doll can be pregnant as long as you like! Not something I get tired of in a hurry, personally. Anyone know if something similar is made for AZ02 bodies? For research purposes, of course.

Holy fuck, EMS Premium delivery from korea to germany is absolute cancer.
>Korean Post tracking stops updating after the parcel clears customs.
>Parcel is handed to either UPS or FedEx, noone can tell you which one.
>EMS tracking number doesn't work with either of their tracking systems.
>If it's FedEx they will not contact you in any way and if you're not home during their one delivery attempt you'll have to pick up your parcel in person from their closest depot, of which there are like 6 in total in the entire country.
The only thing that was Premium was the price, I'll stick to regular EMS from now on. At least DHL figured out how to link EMS numbers to their own tracking number to my local post account a decade ago. Sorry for the rant.

Speaking of Dolpa, I'm planning to go this year. I had to take a vacation from work since I work on weekends, and since I'm flying so far to CA and have the time off, I figured I'd stay for a whole week instead of just flying back right after the event. I'm planning to get a room in the hotel across the street from the Mariott because it's a lot cheaper. But should I spend the whole week there, or relocate to somewhere else in LA after Dolpa for better access to places that might be worth visiting?
>>
>>51119200
You can take public transit into most of LA from Torrance, about 40~60 minutes depending on how far you're going. There's some spaces around Torrance that are also nice to visit like Redondo Beach or the botanic gardens

definitely wouldn't recommend randomly wandering LA for doll photos, but it's mostly safe if you stick to the nicer areas. the issue then is that many nice places in LA are anal about "no professional photography", so you might not be able to use a camera anyway

I'm a Southern California local, not in LA though, and I can offer some advice. Were you looking for more doll friendly things to take in, or were you just looking for more LA in general things?
>>
Since we're on the topic of photo adventures with dolls, this is general advice, but if any of you ever take your doll to the a farm, to the zoo, or any other place with animals for an aesthetic photoshoot, mind the ungulates. They will try to grab and lick everything, from your camera to your clothes to your hands, and your dolls are not exempt. Ton of fun to interact with, but troublesome for photos. A bag of baby carrots will take you far in their friendship (and distracting them while you snap your photos.)

Anon if you ever open commissions for modifying dolls I will give you money. She's so well-made, it's really impressive.
>>
>>51123770
Thanks! Surprisingly, everything (inside of the bags) stayed dry just fine. I carry my dolls around in the volks bag, which I had strapped on my back while riding, and that is water resistant enough to have not given me any issues. Once it turned from rain to a downpour, I did seek cover at a gas station which probably saved her from any actual trouble, since I'm not sure how well that bag would have held up if it got properly soaked.
While studio-type photography is fun in its own way, the very unpredictable nature of taking pictures outside is pretty fun to me. Sometimes, stuff just doesn't work out, and that is the way things go
>>51123662
>don't put your doll too close to a cow
Well, I can't say that I ever planned on it, but I also don't think I would have hesitated to put a doll next to one, so I do appreciate the heads up. I must ask, have you had a cow try to eat a doll of yours?
>>
>>51123923
>too close to a cow
Goats are the worst, they will try to eat literally anything, you'll be lucky to escape with your shoelaces.
>>
Any idea where to get some 1/3 scale animals?
>>
>>51123923
No, I haven't had the chance to try yet due to extenuating circumstances the last few years. But I do have a small collection of photographs of ungulates going for my camera with their tongues. Sidenote: keep alcohol wipes if you photograph animals that are likely to lick your camera. Not great for the lens, but quick and works on most everything up to and including giraffe saliva.

>>51123990
Can concur goats are the worst, I love them but good god they are pica with legs.

>>51124017
Gonna use paragraphs for readability, forgive me.

1/3-Scale anything is hell on earth depending on what you're looking for, your budget, and luck (as well as your standards for how good something should look.) Everything is huge, heavy, and hard to find (let alone ship.) What are you looking for in specific?

For example, if you're looking for horses that actually, genuinely work at 1/3 scale, there's two or three Chinese models that cost more than a new doll, and precisely ONE playline doll prop that you will be fighting me, personally, over next time one comes up for auction. The My Twinn 25" horse usually goes for upwards of $300, and it can be years before one turns up on the market again. For 50cm there's a little more leeway and you might be able to make 18" doll props work, and they work fine for MDD! But 1/3 is kind of a dead zone where everything is handmade, expensive, and huge.

There are some ball-jointed dogs, cats, dragons, and so on in this scale (Eve Studio, Cuarto, and some others specialize in them,) but they are -- understandably -- expensive, especially at 1/3-scale (which is not common for animals, or for fantasy parts either. For good reason, my centaur weighs more than my dog.) You can try 3D printing things if you're up for the challenge, expensive, and extensive finishing work; there are ten billion models out there that will scale infinitely. Alternatively, at that point you might as well pick an artdoll maker and start commissioning what you want directly -- PencilKnight has comms open right now off the top of my head. Nat (Creatures of Whimsy) might? Woodsplitter Lee does too but her work has been in high demand for longer than some posters here have been alive, so you will pay handsomely -- same for Gakman (on top of the insane wait times.) You can also learn the craft yourself (whether it's sculpting a doll, or making an artdoll.) You can take a look on Bearpile lmao or Tedsby for an idea of what's out there. Etsy used to be good for this, too, but Etsy has gone to hell anymore.

(Artdolls are articulated stuffed animals (oversimplification) and they are lovely in their own right, and the best option for getting high-quality poseable props in this scale, in my personal opinion.)

Beyond that, start bringing your dolls to the store and comparing them to things for sale in the toy aisle if you aren't too nervous, it helps tremendously to actually get a feel for what does and doesn't work at scale so you can judge at a glance whether to bring something home or not. Start looking for things not made for dolls or toys, and see if you can repurpose them for doll reasons! Hunt thrift stores, yard sales, the salvation army, and the like -- better chance of finding something without getting skinned alive by a scalper. Consider taking up woodworking and other crafts... even basic skills go a long way to fabricate and refurbish things you find. There are no good, quick answers here, unfortunately.

TL;DR good luck.

>TL;DR good luck.
Thanks for the write up, anon.
I looked at all of those offerings and everything is bespoke it seems.
I'll just need some venture capital investors to mass produce 1/3 scale animals in a low wage economy only to be hit by tariffs it seems.
>>
>>51124122
If you fuck with perspective enough you can still usually make 18" doll props work, but a lot of them aren't just too small, they tend to be blocky and inelegant because they're designed for the clumsy hands of a child (which is a good thing, ultimately!) Gotta get creative.
>>
>>51123885
Thanks anon, I’ll consider it in the future. i dont think my work is good enough to charge money yet. What kind of modifications were you thinking about?
>>
>>51124329
I love fantasy dolls in any form, and don't mind managing fiddly and delicate builds. A harpy sounds lovely, to that end -- I remember you posted the build process a while ago. If you do a write-up on that again, I'll find a way to add it to the QnA Guide, if you like. (That thing needs an overhaul, but I've been pulled away by work and life, as happens. One day.) Honestly, anything goes for me. Whether it's a doll in my home or a doll made by someone here, I'm happy to see people bringing their literal Dollfie Dreams to life (whether they're dollfies or not.)

Welp anons, this thread made start thinking about getting my own doll and then I stumbled across this head and made the decision to finally start. Any recommendations on where to get a body, I've searched in some stores mention in the QnA and couldn't find one or I'm just dumb lol. Also volks online store doesn't have stock and don't know when they will restock
>>
>>51126501
That looks like a Volks DDH head, so you would want a matching body. The skin color is predominately Semi-white these days.

Most semi-white Volks bodies have been sold out during this war. Something about petroleum refines into plastic parts for dolls.

You can buy some of the bodies from Volksusa at a higher cost right now or a used one from 2nd hand outlets like mandarake or Yahoo auctions. You technically could get all the parts separately but that can be tricky for a beginner due to new/older incompatible parts.

What body are you looking for?
Size, color, frame?

>>51126511
Yep, it's a flesh ddh-29 according to the auction. I'm looking for MDD body like picrel, I read that there are more brands and the head can be attached with an adapter but that seems more difficult than just getting a a volks body
>>
>>51126530
Those are in-stock on Volksusa for $341. More expensive right now but there is no way to know when volks.jp will restock the bodies.
I'm not knowledgeable when it comes to adapters.
But, I think other considerations would be limited clothing sizes and selection, body color match from other non-volks companies might not match the head.
>>
>>51126535
I'll keep searching and take the volks usa option as last resort, buying from volks jp makes me save around 100 dollars when converting into my currency, maybe I'll see a body in an auction somewhere

>>51126535
Welp, looking around I found a second hand semi white body for around 180 dollars, I know there would be a miss match but I don't how big it's and looking at photos of the head it seems too pale in comparison to other flesh photos I've seen, maybe just eh illumination, Is it a good or bad idea to buy it o better to just wait?

I wouldn’t buy a mismatched body. Just wait for now.

An indie artist on Twitter makes them with his wife. You can order them online but I forget if they ship oversees. He recently made a smaller 90 cm version after idoll banned 100+cm dolls (probably because he brought his larger dolls to the last idoll and they thought it was a nuisance. Sasuga japan)

Im sorry I forget his handle but if I come across it I will post. I am following him so hopefully I can grab it soon.

Do I want a hugeass doll or do I want a smol dol? I have 1/3
Is it better to scale up or down?
>>
>>51131451
Base price ranges from 189000 to 330000 yen. There are tons of optional add-ons that increase the price (eyes, face up, wigs, ear options, joint options etc)
>>
>>51131708
You don't want a hugeass doll, if you have 1/3 already, go down, having 1/4 dolls opens up so many props and cute things.

Well, looks like I got scammed. Bought my first blindbox doll from yahoo auctions. Item was listed as new and unused. She just arived, the box was unsealed and her clothes are missing.
