I got a question for all the old heads out here on /jp/What was it like being a touhou fan on the internet in the late 2000’s / early 2010’sFrom an outside perspective it seems like it was a really fun time Whenever I go back and play the older games or listen to the OSTs it makes me wonder if the excitement for new game releases, doujins, etc was heavier then than nowAlthough there are certainly way more fan games nowSo, with no rose tinted glasses, what was it like
>>51092779Pretty good.Touhou was just in a better spot lorewise and that was largely reflected in the fan output. Not to say a lot of it wasn't pseudo SoL gacha trash. But there being a more clear idea of what Gensokyo was and more love towards characters people actually seemed to like generally resulted in better fan content. Mind you, that's not to say it was perfect. I'll freely admit I mostly hung out on places outside /jp/, but on average fans could be pretty annoying. A large presence online generally translated into a large ego, though in a better way than the pretentious hipsters of modern /jp/. Also there was a ton of bad fanon memes, mischaracterization, and just generally people not getting it even back then.

Where are all the uncs at

>>51092779between th10 and th14, i spent a lot of time online arguing with strangers over sanae vs. sakuya. the two seem to coexist fine now.the gap between english fans and japanese fans was much bigger. we used to translate atai as eye, as in eye'm the strongest, but i haven't seen that in a long time.
>>51092779For a lack of better words, there was more whimsy involved. Now days it feels like a higher number of people have a stick up their ass and feel the need to police everything if you engage with the series in a way they deem incorrect or simply do or say something they don't like. Not to say those types never existed, but they didn't feel like an expected norm if you wandered into a thread and happened to say something they disliked so they spend the duration of the thread's lifespan attacking anyone like it's their job. I do miss when Comiket was more anticipated by the wider community though. Now days it feels like it's just about the general happenings of the event and a place to post for the guys who actually attend it. Before it felt like a holiday level event before it started getting astroturfed by other series and the general speed bump that was covid that it's never really recovered from.
>>51095962Covid really ruined a lot of franchisesLove Live hasn’t been the same since

>>51092779Before /jp/ circa 2008, we had to stay in our containment thread on /a/. Eventually, we got so big we were taking over the /a/ board with touhou shitposts in all of their threads and KoG was stealing /a/ gets using Cirno, so luggage lad created /jp/ as a containment board.
>>51094624Speaking of uncs, anyone else remember Uncle Mugen?
In rusian segment we'r sat on iichan/t(r)o and arguing how to pronouncce Flandre. Or Cirno. Now it's Сырно everywhere bc fk it
