Now that Sony isn't releasing any more physical copies of games, what do you think is going to happen to the CDs, BD, music and the doujin scene in Japan? Do you think the Japanese are going to follow a digital only approach in the future or will they continue to produce physical media?
>>51093844Sony is an unique case, because they do not make games, they make consoles to play games. In theory, there is nothing stopping developers from releasing a physical copy of the game, it is just that there will be nothing to play it on.Meanwhile having something to play is not an issue for doujins, and while music CDs do require something to play, they are not being held hostage by like 3 corporations. Musicians still seem to care about physical media, plenty still release vinyls lol.So yeah, basically, it depends if the artist want it, and i think most will still want it simply for their love to the art.
>>51093844Digital-only is just incompatible with doujin culture. Like, the point of doujin conventions is people selling self-published physical goods via hand-to-hand transactions.
>>51096312Not necessarily for doujin games. Those are already commonly available digitally on storefronts like dlsite. It's allowed even someone like me with zero access to doujin events to buy a copy and support the devs for a doujin VN they released over a decade ago. While having physical discs of doujin games is certainly appealing, the software itself is the main content either way.Though I do agree that digital-only is incomparable when it comes to doujinshi.

All physical disc production for Playstation games goes through Sony.

>>51093994what the heck are you even talking about? sony is the distributor and manufacturer.
