I've got something I kinda like running now, but it's a one pass translation, with a lot of the review done via scripts, so some bad lines will go through. A lot can be fixed with an edit pass, but that that would be a lot more token used. And the first translation pass has to be done anyways, so I'm doing that first.
The linked file is using this cheaper workflow. Cheap being relative considering the models I'm running this with.

Then the translator agents do their work, outputting to a new txt file, before reporting back to the manager, who then uses a merge script to merge the file back, before running a few scripts that check syntax, and compare counts of hearts, %MASTERNAME:42% and other variables in both the jp original and translation, so we can be sure we didn't drop anything.

The translator agent also gets a hatate.md with what a translator needs to know about her, plus about 50 pairs of jp-en translation to anchor the style she is written in.
I will very probably upload the full workflow when I finish Hatate with it, or when I give up.

I made the hina and eirin translations a while ago, and I've been trying to improve my methods and quality but have been busy with other projects lately so I've put things mostly on hold.
There's the guy who posted that big pack of translations on litterbox, and there's the guy you're replying to, who might or not be the same person, but doesn't look like it according to his reply.

Speaking of Tsukasa, that's who I started working on after Eirin, mostly as a way to test the limits and try to push them, but it is quite hard because some of her files are so long that even the best models will run out of context and forget the TL rules or what they're even doing at all. I've been working on automatic tools to split the files into pieces, but that takes some effort to get right.
Also, the heaviest rule has been "replace every CALLNAME:MASTER in narration with 'you' and change all the verbs in narration to second person in present tense", which many consider compulsory for a translation to be considered good, but which often confuses the LLM and requires even more automation.

Why not get your claude code/codex/whatever to do that for you? I can upload you my scripts, but they are pretty locked into my workflow. I generally load ~200 lines that need translation per agent run, plus very stripped down if/else/code structure, so it knows how lines related to each other, if they're in the same or alternate branches, and so on.

The Unicode heart is just a character printed in, HPH is a little more robust reference to a function that prints (a different Unicode heart) and forces its colour to pink and font to TNR
Swapping the latter for the former shouldn't break anything, but you can't use HPH without the HPH_PRINT function being called - it will simply be read as a standard string of characters

The reason I suggested these two (and could have also Tsukasa, if I REALLY felt sadistic) was exactly because of that, they are among the largest character files in the game. If I tossed a Satori or Yachie, the file would have been much smaller - and the test not as intensive.

Yes, but I wanted to ask about the reason for there being the literal unicode heart, and the pink one. Is the pink one just a straight improvement only added in some later scenes? Is it a different flavor that gets added depending on the scene?
I'm currently keeping each HPH as HPH and each unicode heart as unicode heart. But if HPH is straight up better I can easily make that the default, even with the HPH_PRINT quirk.

A shorter one would have been nice for you guys to crosscheck and tell me issues so I can know before doing a mammoth char like Hatate. But for LLMs I can.
I spent way too much of the last years using AI for getting off, so I got very used to the quirks and bad tendencies of those AI written sentences.They are trained on way too much fanfiction and other bad writing, a lot of it by women.
Here's some examples straight out of that anons file:

Hatate LLM translation is "done", after ~25 human work hours. I would have uploaded to catbox but it does not like my IP today.

The translation should be 95% where I think it should be. 99.9% of lines are translated. I initially wanted it to be a bit different on the voice style, but after seeing that you guys prefer the less crazy A style in >>51121359 , I went for that. A was done with Sol, B was Fable by the way. Dario taking Fable away from the cheap claude plan also massively factored into this decision.

I may do some more reviewing of the files as soon as my usage limits reset, but the parts I already checked only had minor things to be corrected.
This is not to say that this is a perfect translation, which would replace human tls and so on. I've only read ~20% of the EN output, and 2% of JP-EN comparison. With my jp good enough to read about 40 kanji in total I won't pretend I'm able to understand anything more complicated than a porn manga. But it feels correct in style.
The few lines (~1000 out of 20000+) that had already been translated were seemingly done by at least two people, with one half being the base for this LLM translation, and the other half being so bad I had to completely throw it out. I kept the line counts of each file identical to the current gitlab files, and tried my best to match all other conventions as far as I could detect them.
As there was no answer to my question if I should replace unicode hearts with HPH, I kept every instance as it was. For sfx and how to translate them I checked against a few other translated characters, and then picked the ones my dick licked best.
As far as I spot checked the porn, there was nothing censored. It did skip out on ~0.1% of content due to it being what I assume was shota. If I do that second pass I'll also correct that.

I played an hour into the game to see some Hatate stuff, but I'll be honest, era games are too grindy for me, and I am very much a secondary, even after 15 years of 2hu exposure. So if there are any Hatatefags here, do please give it a try and scream at me how exactly I butchered your girl.
If you like the "translation" and want me to do another character as well, please do give Hatate a short try and tell me what exactly I did wrong, so I don't waste time fucking up multiple characters.
Tube fox has only 25% more lines than Hatate by the way. Lily/Doremi are 75% of Hatate, Kogasa and Satori are 50%. Every other character is at most 30% of Hatate. This is all going by untranslated japanese text lines only.

During fixing that I came across the MUSHI_BATTLE stuff. Checking other translated characters almost none of them have translations for this. Is this something I should touch as part of Hatate? I don't think I should as it's not in Hatate's folder. But she seems to have an extremely high amount of lines compared to others.

One of the problems with slopifying some translations is because that is not enough. Several touhous translated for AnonTW needed to be rewritten from scratch because a lot of their original content was not "fit" for this branch.

That is it. At least for me. The new models released in the last months were so insane for whatever I used them for, and also so good at moon, that I just had to try.
Era is also a special case. It is text only, its content has a simple structure, there are no weird cross-references across files, characters are very standalone, and Touhou is very very big, so LLMs know it by heart.
The problem with AI is that it makes it very easy to "create", or in this case "translate" something, due to the lack of an entry barrier, made worse when they pretend they're not using AI, like that Biten faggot earlier. There are also massive differences between AI and AI, and things change every two months. And while I do like the current SOTA ones, their prose can be very formulaic in freeform writing. When translating according to a character spec they seemed to try their best to stay on point though. That said I'm no Hatatefag, if she talks weird please tell me.

I won't steer you towards any particular hu, but I do very much appreciate you doing this. I'd rather use an optional tl pack like this, where you're clearly not just using a fire-and-forget approach, than rely on text extraction to translate everything over and over again at runtime, or having to very slowly translate the text in my head my penor needs the blood more than my brain does. The idea that a new contributor might be discouraged from creating or translating content because an existing translation or more developed version already exists is observable behaviour that has been seen here and on other projects, and I/we've discussed it several times in the past.
The two slight reservations I have for that argument though are that, as >>51134848 says, there isn't really that much movement in terms of people translating. The counter to that of course being that it'd be even less. The other is that I don't think that anyone is seriously advocating for these to be pushed to main. As long as these stay optional downloads, people shouldn't regard that as a reason not to work on main, and anyone using them as a reason was already too lazy and weakwilled to do any work and is just looking for excuses to justify a decision they had already made.

I'd personally much prefer to see an AI translation of work that we know is good in Japanese, where the person overseeing the AI translation is taking care to check the output and correct it where needed, than human translations where half the stuff is wrong, or human written original content by braindead retards who barely even speak English.
But again, it has to be a separate download, and it has to be curated. Some people are, for lack of a better word, doomposting because they are imagining a scenario where the worst MTL slop is being pushed to the main branch unthinkingly by maintainers, rather than the reality we have now, where poor work and AI generated original content are being lambasted and pushed away.
Human content should always be preferred here and should always supersede the infernal machine when there is a choice to be made.

Weekly update:

MEGATEN
- Those Dracostrikes and Spellstrikes from an anon here finally (finally!) got merged.
- A handful of bugs got fixed.

BLUE_RESORT
- In addition to the usual "more characters, more art, more bug fixes", a feature where characters will moan their partner's name during sex and Ingredient Gathering requests got added.
WIP
- The JP TW devs are working on some more optimizations. They just came up with one that dramatically improved the performance of the clothing system.
- The JP Megaten devs are working on a lot (I found another channel where they were also posting updates). Fusion Search in the Cathedral of Shadows like the more recent official games have, a reworking of the Mantra Grid display, and a bunch of AI portraits.
