Just saw that the guy that's reverse engineering the PC98 games has quit: https://x.com/ReC98Project/status/2075343280154214711I don't agree with the reason (frustration/doom and gloom over AI), but doesn't look like he's interested in changing his mind. Hopefully he'll reconsider when it all inevitably comes crashing down.I know some people here quite like the PC98 games, so figured I should post it here.
>>51130700Has the pack maintainer tested Windows 11 at all? I get this on 19. For 20 it's just the resolution select menu and then nothing. I've played around with "Comparability Mode" for both to no avail.
>>51131322i just play with neko project i don't know anything about it.
heh
Impossible Spell Card is so much fun until day 10 when they start hitting you with those stupidly huge health pools. I still like some of the cards like 10-5 but Tenshi and Remilia can eat shit and die.
>>51131322He's stated before he was doing this for the money, so I cant exactly blame him for stopping now that presumably less people are donating.
>>51132945i feel the same way with the photo games. straight forward most of the time but then randomly the hardest thing ever. i enjoy them more in moderation.
finally done with this dogshit
Holy fuck this shit is absolutely filters meAlso did ZUN even tested Sakuya B? I'm fine with no homing, but what's the point of locking knives direction while focusing? And time stop bombs are not not as cool as I initially thought
>>51133866>what's the point of locking knives direction while focusingto hit things not in front of you>>51133866>And time stop bombs are not not as cool as I initially thoughtit's good for scoring
maaaan I can't STAND UM THIS GAME IS SO FUCKING BORING
>>51136727>maaaan I can't STAND UM THIS GAME IS SO FUCKING BORINGTHEN WHY DID YOU PLAY IT
>>51133702Why marisa? Are you doing with every character?
>>51133866Skill issue. Sakuya B is perfect. You can say marisa has it's problems and reimu being basically useless, but sakuya B is just about knowing how to play, also her bomb helps getting cherry borders faster.>>51136727I don't think it's boring but has giant holes with it's design i also hate some patterns, some for skill issues others because i just don't like. (Fuck tsukasa and megumu)
>>51131322KWAB, people want results, not delays.
>collecting point items and raising your score does not reward you with extra lives. why did he think this was a good idea
>>51137810At least for SA, UFO, and TD it makes sense given that these games have specific concepts for acquiring lives. In SA you get life pieces for not dying. In UFO you already get a fuck ton of lives from red UFOs. In TD you barely get any purple spirits and the game compensates for this by being significantly easier. Adding more lives tied to scoring lessens these game design decisions.
>>51136781what's wrong with marisa?
Narumi is such a funny boss. She spends most of the fight being a below average difficulty Stage 4 boss, but out of nowhere, she pulls Bullet Golem, a spell that looks like it was pulled straight out of Utsuho's kit, and wouldn't be out of place in her arsenal in terms of difficulty. It is justified from HSiFS' story, but I just find it funny. It really just feels like it came out of nowhere.
>>51131322If he were using AI, he would have finished already. What was this project like, porting the pc98 games to windows like that MS port that isn't quite 1:1?
>>51139355>What was this project likeFull reverse engineering was the goal, clear and properly documented source code that compiles to a byte-for-byte perfect recreation. Not just figuring out the code, but the full intent behind it.Aside from having the code as a historical curiosity, at that point it would be open to ports, mods, bugfixes, etc. The anniversary edition he made after finishing TH01 (the only completed one) is a big step up in QOL from the original.>If he were using AI, he would have finished alreadyDisagree. AI might help, but it just isn't able to achieve that level of perfectionism yet.
PC98fags are such posers it's crazy.
>>51139480>AI might help, but it just isn't able to achieve that level of perfectionism yet.Sounds to me you want the Ai to do all the work instead of using it as a tool. If the dev wasn't such a faggot, the project would be way more advanced by now.
>>51132958>now that presumably less people are donatingHe was still way above the donation cap so that's probably not the case, it looked more like an autistic ragequit. For anyone interested in the details, the matter has been discussed to death here >>51101001
>>51131592The guy forgot to add it, but it's mentioned in the torrent page's description.
>>51139686>>51140152>>51140154take this shit to its own thread
>>51139484many are saying this
>>51140537Please point me to the thread for discussing the contents of the all-in-one pack.
Youmu is such a broken character, almost beat Saki first try.
finally cleared CtC phantasm after 50+ attempts. the game is great, but this stage was koishi levels of bs. i don't even feel like clearing this with the other shottypes
>>51144026Neat. I thought about doing PhNNN in this game, but Reimu's timeout buttblasts me every time
>8 minute stage 5 kotohime>game overfugg :DD
>>51144026Good job. I always loved CtC's Phantasm stage theme.https://youtu.be/3K1SK0eNvqs
Is there a version of the 1CC chart updated for 2HU 20? I want to play it soon.
>>51149044doesn't touhou 20 have like a billion combinations you can do?
>>51150444Not him but yeah, it does, which is why no chart can satisfy all needs. You need to collapse the combinations down to either once column per character (like we do for UM, which is actually on the order of tens of quadrillions), or one column per color of the main stone (8 total, like I've done because my chart is story-focused), or one column per main stone (16 total, like I've seen someone here do), and the choice is highly subjective.I doubt anyone would go beyond that, at least, unless they want to make something that would rival the BPoHC pagoda, and even then it would be just a meme chart. This talk reminded me of the chart website which some guy made a while ago (https://doopu.github.io/1ccTracker/), so I went to check and noticed it's not being updated anymore, and the guy's twitter account doesn't even exist anymore.I might fork it someday and add the latest games.
Playing IaMP. I'm not a fighting gamer but this is actually pretty fun.I suck at close combat though. Feels like I'm cheesing most fights by just dodging and spamming projectiles. The spritework is very good, I just got to Ibuki and she is so adorable.
>>51150514Someone already did https://github.com/DrNeotech/1ccTracker
I’ve been playing Dark Souls with my brother after first playing it many years ago and compared to Touhou it’s kind of easy. Memorizing like 5 minutes of gameplay to get to another bonfire or a boss feels trivial when you’re used to 40 minute 1CCs.
>>51151603Oh cool, last updated 5 days ago.https://drneotech.github.io/1ccTracker/I see he went with "one column per main stone" in the end.
>>51152364I haven't played the game yet myself, but I believe that's what I would do too.Speaking of playing new games, what's the stance of the larger community about distributing games now that they are on steam? I remember various sites hosting free downloads for those games, or waiting for anon to upload it on release days... is that still a thing?
>>51152814The newer games are just as simple to download as ever. But now you can play the games release day without having to wait for someone to upload it, which is very nice.
>>51152814>I remember various sites hosting free downloads for those games, or waiting for anon to upload it on release days... is that still a thing? It is. Games are quickly posted here and can be found in doujinstyle. They are eventually added to the all-in-one pack as well. Can't talk about the "larger community" since that's far disconnected from this website nowadays (it's mainly located in reddit, twitter and the huge dicksword server now), and I don't care about it.
Oh yeah there is a doubt I haveFrom what I learned the couple past threads, people use neopatch and OpenInputLagPatch as replacements for vpatch. Prioritizing neo for most games and only using oilp for unsupported games... but how exactly are they better than good ol vpatch?Another thing, iirc, thprac autoruns vpatch if its present. Does it also do that with these new tools?
>>51153489>how exactly are they better than good ol vpatch? They're simply available for the newer games. I haven't tested them against vpatch for the games covered by multiple mods but I'd assume the difference to be minimal, if at all present.>thprac autoruns vpatch if its present. Does it also do that with these new tools? With OILP, it unfortunately doesn't, but you can take care of that pretty easily by editing the games.js file in the config folder to have it point to oilp_loader.exeWith neopatch, since it's just a dll which you put in the game's folder, you just need to make sure the games js points to the original exe instead of the vpatch exe (if any).
>>51153489With neopatch (and OILP, I think) you can set the fast forward speed for replays, and it looks a lot smoother if you have a high refresh rate monitor. Speaking of which, the dev just added support for EoSD with a built-in DX8-to-DX9 converter so it works out of the box.https://github.com/astral4/neopatch/releases/
>ufo changes right when you collect it
>>51155369I hate this
>>51155369nothing in this world infuriates me more than this shit happening right when you're about to get that third ufo
