>>51153257>VIVANTThis show is pretty bad. I enjoyed the first half of season one because it was like a high tech Indiana Jones. Then it lost me with the Hanzawa Naoki: Mongolia Edition with literal terrorists. This new season so far is even worse, despite the globetrotting across several countries the story feels a lot smaller
Reiwa GTO is a fucking mistake, it simply doesn't work. The story is clearly being crushed by the modern compliance standards and Onizuka doesn't even feel like Onizuka, there's nothing from his unique charms seen in the original.
Just finished Sukeban Deka and wtf was that ending?! I didn't expect that at all. Had a blast with the series, and seasons 2 and 3 seems to be even crazier.
>>51156896It's Tsutsumi Yukihiko.
>>51157023Should have pitched this show for netflix
>>51153257>VIVANT ep.1 s2if there's anything i've learned over the past few years, it's that some actors are fated to play one type of character and aren't taken seriously if they try to stray from it. like tamura who got typecast into his furuhata ninzaburou character for like 20 years, sakai just plays hanzawa in more or less the same role doing the same things.D: face when he's learning about conspiracies and the movement of huge sums of money. in hanzawa he had aya ueto to act as his confidant and here he mostly does it with himself. lots of exposition dumping. drum. i don't know what how i'm supposed to feel. he looks so japanese but we're here pretending that he's not while he uses his AI translation app on his phone. then again nino-sama is here so what's the point.verdict: ....it's okay. it's nice to see more effort put into these productions and the industry has to evolve and try new stuff. i don't know if international audiences will enjoy it, but as funny as it sounds this drama wasn't made for them despite the shooting locations.
i do like that VIVANT has us all watching the same thing. would be up for a monthly movie club to drum up some activity in the gen

Watched the latest two episodes of Hiroshi no Bocchi Camp since he was in Washington.>incredibly conceited personality>barely knows any english>the content is incredibly boring (drinking coffee, walking around a fire station with vintage firetrucks and just repeating the years they're from because he knows zero english, riding a ferry and then just talking about himself, going to a supermarket, going to a supermarket again)>he's not even solo, he has cameramen and a white japanese-speaking guide driving him around everywhereAlso I already noticed this a while ago from watching Meikyuu Gourmet (a former travel show that Hiroshi ragequit after fighting with the director) but he seriously looks down on non-Japanese people and often talks to the camera and says shit about them in Japanese. In the latest episode there's one point where the white guy (who just promised to pick him up from the campsite tomorrow) is leaving and Hiroshi pulls out a kazoo and says to the camera "I'll drive away Chad with this," and "It's a Chad repellent whistle."
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FeoAHU3foPI
>>51163087 I don't know about you but I enjoyed it. I was cracking up at Hiroshi's commentary while he was wandering around supermarkets and home centers in Seattle.
>>51163087in order to enjoy these shows you have to be a person who has something to learn from them. my unpopular opinion is that japanese camping shows are like western camping shows but you drag the difficulty slider all the way to the leftpart of this is because the amenities in japan is top notch, but also because of the amount of gear and food they bring

Beat Takeshi on solving the issue of badly-behaved tourists>Japan really does have pretty lenient rules for tourist spots, doesn’t it? I’ve been to quite a few tourist spots around the world for film festivals and such, and the rules there are pretty strict. Since everyone follows those rules as a matter of course, I think tourists would comply even if Japan enforced stricter ones. Mt. Fuji tourists should pay a membership fee, plus all the insurance premiums, and if they cause an accident, they have to pay enough money to properly cover the damages. I just don’t think their disruptive behavior should be covered by our taxes alone.

>>51173229don't be fooled by dipshit white nationalists using loan words as a pretense to tell you that japan is falling on youtube and X. japanese is 30-50% made up of chinese loanwords for example. this number will go up as japan integrates more widely with the rest of the world where it'll need them to express concepts that require contexts to help people make sense of it, but also realize that even if they add loanwords to the vocab it doesn't mean that they have to delete existing japanese words to make space.

>>51179467You most likely only watch movies from the 2010s+. Takeshi Kitano has his style of course, but many thriller movies from the 80s, 90s and the early 00s have that quality of brutalness, especially the non-mainstream ones.

>>51179467Kitano Takeshi on Violent Cop>"I'm an owarai geinin. I never wanted to be a director. It was because the original director abandoned the project, and the producer asked me to direct it. I had no idea what I was doing, so I just filmed the scenes as I imagined them. Maybe that's why the film has such a raw style." >"When I started, I didn't know the rules of cinema. I didn't know about shots, camera movements, or technical scripts. I simply saw a scene in my head and tried to recreate it. I think that ignorance set me free. I did things my way, which perhaps resulted in something different.">"The critics and the Japanese cinematic elite initially despised me. They said I was a TV clown who didn't deserve to make films. That made me more stubborn. I wanted to prove that I could create something powerful, even if I didn't follow their traditions.">"I learned to make films by watching films, but not like a scholar. I'd see a scene I liked and try to understand why it worked, then adapt it to my style. I didn't have a mentor. My school was trial and error."

>>51183195I feel that Kitano kinda stopped experimenting - or at least "bumbling around" after Sonatine. I notice that in his earlier movies, there are a lot of continuous scenes of silence and pauses, experimental shots, editing, and how deadpan the characters act. Post-Sonatine, there are fewer of such techniques, and the subsequent movies he's made since then are much more "neater" in terms of filmmaking. Personally though, I really like his experimental era; there's something raw about his style in that short stint when he started directing movies.
was it good?
>>51184065It's /fa/
>>51184051This is a natural result once filmmakers polish their style, not only in Kitano Takeshi's case. They gain something, but lose something else. That's why a filmmaker's earlier efforts are so much more endearing to me personally, even if they were flawed. Like for example the photo you attached of Boiling Point, one of Kitano's most underrated films. It's all about him exploring and shaping his directorial identity, experimenting with storytelling, scene construction, filmmaking and character definition and interaction, in the process fine-tuning elements that would come to define his cinematic style. It's littered with offbeat characters and encounters that don't always tidily connect but are fascinating in themselves. It’s also here that his signature before/after editing technique is first employed for comic effect. Truly the geinin Beat Takeshi's struggle before he evolved into 「世界のキタノ」。
>>51183469honestly once you learn a bit about direction and scripting a lot jdrama seems campy and amateur, but that's the entire point of it -- it's getting actors and staff ready to shoot actual movies and filtering the noobs out by keeping them in the jdrama system

Chidori's Daimanzai was funny. I was originally going to write a detailed summary of the this year's Daigo-do stage play ("YanBaku" - Yankee Bakusou Densetsu or Yankee Bakumatsu Densetsu), but I hit the character limit not even half way through so I deleted it. Basically a yankee has an upcoming history test he needs to pass or he'll have to repeat the school year, but then he suddenly gets sent back in time to the year Keio 2 after getting struck by lightning where he saves Sakamoto Ryoma. It has a bunch of tropes typical of time travel stories, references to Haka no Naka no Hitsuji, AI and fourth wall jokes. Here's Shotaro Mamiya dancing to M!LK (also Watabe can go die).
