For the meantime he'll be borrowing Sakura's body. I did buy a replacement torso off booth for him as I don't really care for either of Volks' solutions and Dollbots are impossible to get. Just means more time for me to assemble him a wardrobe, can't have him in hand-me-downs. Right?

I've decided his name be Willow.

imo (because anyone cares) I can appreciate a good pregnant belly, but the ones I've seen available for dolls just… kind of aren't?
so it will continue to not be my kind of thing as long as that remains the case, but I won't say anything about other people posting them

>>51180761
I haven't seen it on their sites. They did just have a Dollpa, so it may have been out early.
>>
>>51179447
I don't know how to ask without sounding rude becuse the dolls are nice, but the gaps between the parts on vinyl dolls always bothered me a little. You can see that with the hand and the wrist or the elbow and the socket. Is it something inevitable or can you push the parts closer together if you're autistic and it bothers you?
>>
>>51180939
The parts will fit flush, but some poses cause the joints to extend and because they're on a frame, gaps can appear. Sometimes (a lot of times) I don't notice, especially if I'm doing a jokey pic like that one which was for a game thread on another board. But usually I'll make sure shoulders are pushed in and elbows are as flush as they can be. Resin dolls don't have that problem because the structure of the doll comes from all the parts being held together with tension. Its just something that you have to be mindful of with vinyl girls on frames, and depending on the pose, can be unavoidable.
>>
>>51180972
Thanks for the explanation anon! Your photos are nice nonetheless.

i have this doll on the way and having trouble finding clothes on japanese sites, its height is 70cm which i think should be 1/3 but it looks like 1/3 can range from like 60cm upwards. are there any codes for a dolfie or some other brand which has this size body? more measurements here postimg.cc/gallery/9WH2Q9j
>>
>>51181469
Very cute girl!
I like her coord and her hat, Congrats!
>>
>>51182148
Yeah 60cm is the standard 1/3. You have her measurements so compare it with clothes you see. Really though if you have a non standard size doll, clothes can be hit or miss. Even if you have a 1/3 60cm doll, that dose'nt mean everything will fit perfectly. It's one benefit of a doll line like DD, that also make clothes. But those clothes are nore expensive too. You should be able to find stuff that fits her though with enough trial and error.
>>
>>51182213

>>51182148
Perhaps need to get clothes from the same manfacturer.
You can try the 70cm Boy clothes and try from places like legenddoll.
You can also try buying the largest clothes for 60cm girls to see if it will fit.
>>
>>51183021
God why can't it just be a normal preorder. I was going to type that I hate Volks sometimes, but no. It's not just them, it's the entire... Japanese business framework that vexes me.

>>51182148
What is this anyway? I can try to see if anyone makes clothes just for this. Very cute doll either way! Try larger DDdy clothes, anything made with elastic might have a good shot at fitting. Skirts and loose tops are your best bet -- pants might be a challenge.
>>
>>51183086
>same manfacturer.
>>51183086
its some random chink doll from taobao, i did look on taobao and found a bunch of clothes listed at for 68cm so have bought them theyre super cheap on there too but theres not as much variety as ive seen on yahoo auctions. will order some DDdy next time i order things from japan thanks.
>>
fuck off with your bootleg you fucking nigger
>>
>>51183274
Bootlegs are completely justified, brands behave like entitled lazy divas. Fuck them; Steal everything.
>>
>>51183134
Nah it's not just a doll problem, ANYTHING from Japan will have this exclusivity bullshit. Dolls, toys, clothes, fucking home goods, doesn't matter. Limited edition/exclusivity = value and therefore no one can just buy something directly, they have to jump through hoops.
>>
>>51183417
Taylor Swift's fans friendly priced concert tickets too
>>
>>51183417
I mean it's also because demand outpaces supply. The vinyl shortage doesn't help either. For Volks specifically they are big enough that I'm sure they could do more preorders especially in the past at least. But other Japanese doll brands like Angel Philia and Azone have historically done tons of preorders and never had clickwar (other than AP's main site), it's only turned into clickwar due to their popularity explosion and I doubt they can 5x their production capacity within a year when there's severe material shortages

Similarly there are Chinese doll items that have capped supply as well, but it's usually outfits or custom faceups that are more convoluted to make than unpainted casted dolls which usually have no limit and are also just unlimited mto within the preorder period

A lot of Japanese companies have started being more open to unlimited preorders though, Gift with made to order fumos is one of them. Same with a lot of re-released Kotobukiya figures. Idk about other things though.
>>
>>51183563
I agree with you there on all points, however the thing I am specifically looking to get is the Ribbon Girl set, which is mostly fabric. Just sell it as a normal preorder for god's sake.
>>
>>51182148

>>
>>51183593

https://dollfie.volks.co.jp/dd/special/piapro/product/drs_miku06.html

RIP DoA. That forum had a hell of a lot of genuinely useful information stored in threads over the years, so this is a loss. I never used it, because I don't want to socialize at the best of times, but even I found use from the discussions there, so it's still sad to know that that wealth of information is just gone, now. Especially because with how the internet is now, it's not going to be replaced by anything, because forums are dead and everyone is too brainrotted by shortform content to actually hold discussion over the best ways to mod a doll body for a specific goal, the best non-doll props at a certain scale, how to do a suwariko joint mod, and so on. Even if it was a resin-focused forum, as a hobby we've lost a lot. So, RIP to DoA. It wasn't perfect, it was an elitist, hard-to-navigate cesspool, but it was still better to have it than not.
>>
>>51184030
Thanks for the advice kind anon, however: Who the fuck are you? /bjd/'s rabbi? Luke Skywalker's father? The Plumber?
>>
>>51184601
I'm not anyone special anon, it is simply my hope that people will remember to post the things they want to see, and don't engage with the things they don't want to see.
>>
>>51184556
It's not like it's going to be gone-gone, it's going into archive mode, so it'll at least still be around.
>>
>>51184556
What led to the closure of DoA? It can't cost that mich to keep a fourm up and running, especially if it's mostly dead. I know the community and how they behaved definitely drove a lot of people away, that's always been the ironic part to me. Is there really a BJD community any more? DoA is dead, Tumblr has been dead for years, the /toy/ thread has been dead, I guess it's just dispersed on social media sites like everything else? Instagram and x?
>>
>>51184817
The owner and only person with complete admin powers vanished, leaving the remaining admins unable to promote new mods.
>>
>>51184794
The owner came back and killed the forum part of the site this morning, so as far as I can see it's all gone.

>>51184817
The owner was MIA and the remaining mods had lives, families, and other things pulling them from the hobby and their desire to continue babysitting the forum. Because the owner vanished, they couldn't promote anyone else who wanted to do that shit either, so they posted that they were going to stop supporting the forums by a certain deadline. As of this morning it seems like the forums have disappeared entirely. As for where everyone else has gone... instagram USED to be popular, but no one uses it anymore since instagram killed how tagging works. I know there are some facebook groups, but I am not keen to join those... DollDreaming has a resin section, maybe people will migrate there? And I guess the rest just use... twitter? Reddit? Discord, probably? The old days of internet communities being actual communities are pretty much dead, unfortunately. I genuinely think part of the reason this thread has so many posters is the simple fact that there's not really anywhere else to go. I think the same could be said for a lot of hobbies, honestly.

That website AND old reddit, jesus. Reddit has insufferable people, but as a resource for general research and information it's one of the few options left. Making it impossible to access the good version of the website without an account is infuriating. Same with the DoA clone: part of the reason DoA dying like is the fact that decades of hobby-specific information has been lost, and what does replacement do? Gatekeep all the info so no one else can archive it, either. Why are people incapable of learning from the past?

The QnA Guide linked in the OP has a list of resources for faceups! The basics you will need (aside from a doll to work on) is a respirator, MSC (Mr. Super Clear, a sealant that works well for resin and vinyl,) chalk pastels or watercolor pencils (not normal ones or anything that uses an oil-base/binder,) and a willingness to try and learn as you go. Seal the head (aka, spray it with MSC) to prevent staining, then once it's dry, you can start practicing to make the faceup you want. Do it in layers, sealing between parts so that if you get something you like, you can preserve it without having to worry about starting over for the next part of the face (wear a respirator, MSC is not good to breathe in.) Bit by bit, you can make the doll you want this way.

Some people get very fancy with what they do (adding false eyelashes, cutting custom mouth shapes with clay inserts for the teeth/tongue, using mica powder for shine, and so on,) and others might use different materials (such as acrylic paint) for a bolder look. There's room to play around and experiment (but avoid human makeup, nail-polish, and anything based in oil, as it can stain or damage the vinyl/resin.) See what you want to make and then research how to do something similar -- then try, fail, and try some more and surely you will get to where you want to be, anon. Good luck!
>>
>>51186288
thank you, I appreciate the advice. i do my own makeup fairly regularly so I'll be trying to imitate what I already know I guess but it sounds like there's some specialised paints from what you've recommended. i dont have a spray gun but I will get one and an airless compressor.
>>
>>51186291
If you can do makeup you might not need one.. Like, can you draw your own eyeliner?
>>
>>51186295
yeah, I do winged eyeliner with a liquid eyeliner. might be needed for doing blush though but I'll try free handing it too
>>
>>51186296
For blush honestly pastels and a makeup brush isn't that bad, especially for a softer look, just depends what kind of style you're going for.
>>
Oh, it does depend if youre talking resin or vinyl, though.

>>51186145

>>
>>51186115
I tried to with my newest MDD i got a few days ago but i was concerned about messing up the hair the whole time so I just put them back
>>
oh snap

>>51186312
honestly an airbrush is overkill for OOAK faceups
sealed pastel powder works fine for blushing, and for full color changes you need to stain (for vinyl) or cast in that color originally
>>
>>51187326
As an airbrush owner, I agree with this. Like yeah, you COULD do part of the faceup with an airbrush, but it's a lot of setup and cleanup for a few seconds of painting, that could also be accomplished with a brush and pastels in less time than it took to setup the airbrush.

>>51190497
I don't mean for travelling. I just want some kind of small display case.

If you have an Ikea nearby, there are lots of options. Just look for glass cabinets.
>>
>>51190486
seconding >>51190509
Ikea has a lot of really nice display cabinets/cases that are really affordable and adjustable to many doll/figure heights. Also there are some smaller cube ones that have optional glass fronts. They also have lighting available if you're so inclined. A second idea is to check local thrift or second hand stores. A lot of older furniture with glass display hutches can be found cheap, but they tend to be full cabinet sized things.

I was going to ask if those are porcelain. They're not on topic persay, but I personally don't mind seeing them from time to time. All dolls are good dolls, and they're more on-topic than something like a Barbie (in my opinion, anyway.) Tell us about them.

>>51190745
Obitsu/Parabox, Azone Pure Neemo, Blind Box BJDs, Some Imomodolls I think... mostly smaller 1/6-scale dolls are a good place to start and common entry into the hobby for many. If you want a blind box doll, you can check Jane's Doll Land, they carry a ton of them.
>>
>>51190760
>Tell us about them.
They are hand-made art dolls made by a famous japanese doll maker. Pic related is a better picture of the big one (shes in the middle).

I own several detolfs and a black curio cabinet from ikea. The curio was infinitely easier to put together, but almost $100 more. It holds 1/3 on the top shelf and the bottom is perfect for 1/6 size. I also have an acrylic cabinet from Amazon for a few dolls to chill on my desk. Its nice and cheap and fits 3-4 1/3 dolls easily.

>>

The wig is similar to any long wig and the styled front part is harder to maintain. She traveled inside the clear bag the entire trip.
A toothbrush is needed just before photoshoots.
The front styled parts were messed up by the wind and I used some of the Wig treatment spray to re-style it.
It is more work than some simpler wigs for sure.

I used the clone tool to edit out the stand.

It is a lot easier if you have the right sort of gear for it. When I'm going out, I have the doll bag slung across my back (volks DD bag) which can hold my doll and any accessories. If I'm feeling super pressed, I can fit everything else in just this bag too. Otherwise, I have a smaller pouch that holds a tripod, and then I usually just carry my camera around the neck (but I also have a shoulder bag that I bring if I want any camera accessories/additional lenses.) So long as the bags aren't swinging around when I'm walking, it is surprisingly easy to walk on trails, or even just through the woods, carrying all of that. Usually, though, it is just the doll bag and my camera around the neck.
However, there are tales of certain anon in here dragging large lighting equipment out into the woods for some of his shots...

>>
>>51201050
When I paid my 700 bucks I made a list of pros and cons of why to buy it or not and the pros easily won.
Dolls are like little daughterfus so spending a bit of money is justifiable. They are even better than daughterfus because they require no work at all and never age.
>>
Like I have nothing else to spend my money on anyway. In the end it's just a number on my bank account. All I ever buy is just food, clothes or art materials.

>I get what you mean, but that is like saying the Mona Lisa painting isn't worth that much, like its only a painting at the end of the day.
I mean yeah, a painting doesn't put a roof over my head and feed me. The Red Vinyard sold for only 400 francs if we are being real sister
Of course different people value different things, but I could not spend more than 700 on an art piece ever again, im not a filthy rich mf with no responsibilities

Absolutely, I love my dolls but I think spending too much on them also makes me feel too guilty for buying them and takes away from my enjoyment. 700 is just my personal break point

>700 is just my personal break point
It's understandable. It depends on how much money you have. If I had more money I would buy more but it's just an expensive hobby.
>>

Honestly, more than new dolls, I just want clothes for my girls now. I wish id maybe bought less dolls and just more outfits from the start, lol.
>>
>>51201242
I also think there is a difference between your first or second doll and any dolls you buy after this.
Like I just wanted to buy an expensive doll once. So that I have it. But I don't really plan on paying this amount of money for a doll again. I already have my daughterfu now and don't really need another. Maybe it will happen again who knows but I don't really need anymore now.

I feel this. Also I'm definitely not trying to shame anyone that's spent more, its fine to buy whatever is in your means, just yapping my personal experience
>>
>>51201264
Definitely. More clothes would be nice. I also wonder if I actually can wash my dolls clothes. I think they could need some washing.

Found my post, it's now buried in the layaway/Q&A section and it's locked.

Hand wash! Its also good to just run them through water once or twice if theyre new, makes them stain less in my experience

Lovely shrine and shrine maiden!
Here is Frieren’s donation.

My current focus is trying to find props and so on that work for 1/3. Easier said than done, so I get things infrequently whenever I find them (when I can afford them... vintage salesman samples are a whole other collector space.)

Head looks like a Dollfie Dream, maybe with jointed hands from Yahoo Japan Auctions or BOOTH. Outfit could be from anywhere or hand-made. My best guess is that this is a Dollfie Dream (so, 60cm) with custom hands. Do you have more photos, or an image source? I can try to track down details on this specific doll (reverse-image searching this one didn't bring anything up.)

I think it's the Kuonji Alice Dollfie Dream since the person who posted it mostly posts Type Moon art, and after looking into it some they did make one of those. The mouth looks a bit different though but it's hard to tell

I was at the toshogu shrine in nikko today. They have a gundam collab. There was a gundam displayed next to the mikoshi. A doll in a miko outfit isnt going to desecrate shit, I bet the locals loved it.

alright my big niggas
how do you organize ur doll clothings
>>

I personally store them in ziploc bags and store those flat in an old dresser that would be too much of a pain in the ass to remove from my home, but those plastic storage containers would also be great for this.

I bought a bunch of craft paper organizers and have everything in those by categories Pants, shorts, shirts, colors, white, long sleeve, short sleeve, etc. and then stack them in drawers. It's really nice. I also have a small set of drawers that I dedicate to my large dresses in oversized ziplocks with those packets for moisture. I keep an empty backet next to me while I change them so I can put them all back where they belong. Pic related for the organizers.
