To the point they were recreating things ZUN didn't remember being bugs or not, so it stands to reason mechanically things are probably going to be the same. Who gives a shit about infinite continues/lives/whatever modes? It's a shmup. You either play to perform well or you're wasting your time with it in the first place. "Casual" players wouldn't touch this game with a forty foot pole in the first place so adding extra practice options isn't going to entice them to go credit feed through once then drop it any more than adding Reimu to Smash Bros would.

It's not exactly the same, but using thprac to try out certain parts of Yukari's fight like 3 times was enough for me to clear the stage on my first attempt after failing for 2 entire weeks (honestly felt like cheating and diminished the joy of beating her in the first place; never used it since because of that).Also, spell practice mode in 08 was the reason I cleared that game's extra stage in 2 days without trying too hard despite it having been my first.
