The story draws parallels between him and Satoshi from the previous year (like the Shion phone call) who undoubtedly had HS. He later also hears Hanyuu's footsteps.
RGD > Higurashi Q > Higurashi A > Higanbana 1 > Umineko Q > Umineko A
>>51211905>Higurashi Q > Higurashi AWhy?
>>51211951Minagoroshi and Matsuribayashi were the lowest of Higurashi at the time of reading. Himatsubushi is also there, but it's short so it gets a pass. Anon's ranking is justified imo besides RGD which I know nothing about.
>>51211905Surely RGD can't be better than Tatarigoroshi
RGD was super political and preachy, so it really depends on how much you agree with Ryukishi. Some great twists and the alt history setting is fun but there's a giant hole in the finale where he got sick and so it feels like a final battle is missing and it just skips to the epilogue. For the politics it preaches mostly about a necessity for defensive nationalism but also some vague feminist stuff, not about anything concrete or about equality but about girl power. I'd call it surprisingly right wing maybe but it's hard to pin down. The action was good, and you can turn the shooting minigame off but the shooting was a plus for me personally. The villain of the final act was on par with Higurashi and Umineko, he was a good one.Music was on par as well.Overall I'd put it bellow everything else but it's still a good read.
>>51212274I've yet to hear a well thought out criticism of Minagoroshi. I feel like most people started saying this after Satoko was flanderized by Gou/Sotsu.
>>51212456my only real criticism of Minagoroshi is that some of the early parts drag on a bit, otherwise I think it did a good job at making you feel the frustration the club feels at trying to save Satoko the right way.My other problem is that the entire fucking chapter is forgotten about by Rika, but that's matsuri's fault
>>51212456I dislike the fate breaking aspects of it, not only in higurashi but in every story where it's highlighted to this this degree. It always end up with the main characters using their plot armor, which is also fate in a way, to fight what they call fate making the whole thing very silly. Look at Keiichi jumping to kill Oryou for example and how it somehow ended up in their favor lol.I also dislike some of the reveals in the second half. No government would agree to wipe out a whole village just because a shady organization made a manual saying this is the only way. Also the part at the end where they were all ghosts was very odd, what the hell was this about? It has some great heights though, same for matsuri too, so their popularity is understandable.
>>51212577>No government would agree to wipe out a whole village just because a shady organization made a manual saying this is the only way.Tokyo was basically a shadow government consisting of titans of industry and other people of power with undue influence over the government and effectively unchecked power. On top of that, Hinamizawa Syndrome was proven to be very real and dangerous. Once you accept that premise to be true, a faction within them scheming to set up a situation where the governor has no choice but to sign off on the plan (keep in mind that they planned it so that his aides that day were all beholden to the faction Nomura works for), isn't impossibly far-fetched any more, especially since the blame can be pinned on the Koizumi faction for establishing and funding all the research to begin with. The Sonozaki having so much power over the entire prefecture because they're a pseudo-yakuza group controlling a voting bloc consisting of a small town is far more unbelievable than the greater conspiracy plot, honestly.
>>51212870>where the governor has no choice but to sign off on the plan (keep in mind that they planned it so that his aides that day were all beholden to the faction Nomura works for),This is the worst part of it for me. It isn't just a governor, it is the prime minister. I don't know much about history, but 80s Japan for sure isn't that sort of unstable country where you can surround its highest position with corrupt men who are ready to commit domestic genocide against complete innocents for nothing to gain but a vague "power struggle".>The SonozakisI can see someone having an issue with this, but their power was established very early on, in chapter 2 at most. It isn't comparable to a reveal at the very end of the story.
>>51212456Is that so?Minagoroshi has always been the most popular I thought. I didn't even see any shift.
>>51212952>I don't know much about history, but 80s Japan for sure isn't that sort of unstable country where you can surround its highest position with corrupt men who are ready to commit domestic genocide against complete innocents for nothing to gain but a vague "power struggle".Japan is infamously a country that at one point had three levels of puppet rulers (controlled by the Houjou clan at the time, funnily enough). This is the least unbelievable thing to me, honestly.>I can see someone having an issue with this, but their power was established very early on, in chapter 2 at most.Yeah, but that's "small town" levels of power (with moneyed (yakuza) interests in the nearby city), not "wide-spanning political influence". I don't remember when the senator part was first mentioned, but that part's just a huge stretch for me, especially when it became apparent that the Sonozaki relied a lot on bluffs and fear.
>>51212996Higurashi is in 1983 anon, not in the fucking 13th century.
>>51213063And in the 21st century, a prime minister was assassinated because of how he was connected to some messed up cult. This is just how the Japanese spiritually are as a people, anon. The position of emperor was a figurehead from basically the 10th century until the 19th (ignoring those three years in the 14th century). It's rooted deep in their cultural DNA, especially in fiction.
>>51212577It was pretty clearly explained how "fate" is actually nothing more than the results of strong willpower. And from the viewpoint of the prime minister he believed the only options were to throw Hinamizawa under the bus or risk an outbreak that could not only potentially kill millions but also turn the world against Japan. It was a fait accompli set up by a rogue organization within the government.

>>51213111It is a Korean cult and Shinzo was assasinated because a woman donated all of her economies to them, which made her son blame the cult for his shitty life, it wasn't a religious motive.
>>51213111Assassination is not on the same league as most of his inner circle being controlled by an organization. Most of the time it's a sign of the opposite, actually.
>>51212274RGD takes its time to get good, like well into the second half of Ep 1, but is peak ryukushi07 IMO and a very enjoyable and well-structured read. I'm currently reading only Ep 2 though and I know there are big twists or even genre shifts ahead so YMMV.
>>51213496>Assassination is not on the same league as most of his inner circle being controlled by an organization. This is genuinely how Ryukishi sees Japanese politics, or at least how he saw it in the early 00s.From an interview he gave shortly after Minagoroshi's release>Ryu: Tokyo is not a so-called secret evil organization like everyone seems to envision. I wanted to portray it as an extension of social groups, but it may have been too difficult to convey. In the end, everyone seems to have the image of a terrible group of evil who are performing secret rituals and drop minions into pits and erase them if they don't agree with the leader's orders. If you are a university graduate, you probably know that there are academic cliques in universities. Also, those who are able to pass the difficult national qualification examinations have formed groups with great horizontal cohesion. Whether it's a town, a village, a company, or a school, there are groups that exist purely as a part of the organization around them. Among them, there are many older societies that actually exist in today's Japan, such as upper class clubs ran by very influential and rich people who financially support young researchers and people in various fields in order to contribute to society. The concept of "Tokyo" is like a combination of many such groups.
>>51214879linkhttps://web.archive.org/web/20070815024021/www.toranoana.jp/higurasi/nakasekata4/higurashi_4_3.htmlTokyo's name is censored (alongside Hanyuu's)
>>51214879He did not do a good job of it then.It reads like a super secret organisation not a lot of groups of social influence in Higurashi.I think he was just retconning like he does constantly.
>>51214879>upper class clubs ran by very influential and rich people who financially support young researchers and people in various fieldsSo Nomura was a diddy blud Epstein>>51215145Yeah, he seems to have realized right away that his attempt at social commentary was pure shit. >>51214879>everyone seems to have the image of a terrible group of evil who are performing secret ritualsMatusuribayashi calls them borderline secret society. Of course this is the image that will pop up to mind. Him talking about rituals (he also pretty much says the same thing in matsuri) is just an exaggeration to evade the criticism.>drop minions into pits and erase them if they don't agree with the leader's ordersTomitake doesn't count? lol
>>51215486Yeah, from what we see of them, they're basically just zaibatsu leaders, high-ranking academics, and politicians, originally coming together as an ultranationalist group wanting to return Japan to power, but this gradually diminished and many younger members just profess such sentiments because it's expected of them, rather than any genuine such beliefs, as they vie for influence, and for the most part Tokyo just seeks to enrich themselves since there's not really any reason to seek to return to Imperial Japan when the country's current position in the world is pretty good for them. They have a lot of influence in politics, academics, and industry, but it's not too different from how the zaibatsu were in Imperial Japan, they're just less out in the open in the new, "democratic" era.Not all conspiracies are written as cults with weird arcane rituals. Tokyo is meant to be much more like Metal Gear's Patriots, pulling the strings behind a lot of things for their own reasons, but they're perfectly normal people, otherwise.
>>51209742 A transvestite is a person who wears clothing, accessories, jewellery or make-up not traditionally or stereotypically associated with their assigned sex.
>>51215445did they ever interact in the main chapters? obviously Satoshi isn't around outside of flashbacks but even then I don't remember them talking.Rika wasn't exactly his biggest fan since she gets one-upped by nii-nii
>>51215486>>51215589I thought the point was that Tokyo is kind of both of these things and is being pulled in two different directions by the old guard and younger members. It's a secret group of influential people (politicians businessmen, academics etc.) but you can't completely divorce that from everything going on with Takano and Nomura's side of things where people ARE getting killed/disappeared.
>>51215844Only in saikoroshi, but it wasn't really him and she ended up abandoning this world anyway. They don't interact in meakashi or matsuribayashi from what I remember.>Rika wasn't exactly his biggest fan since she gets one-upped by nii-niiI remember ryukishi said she would end up being the same as gou Satoko if he woke up (although I don't know if the anon who said this here was trolling or telling the truth)
>>51212986>the most popularit must be in some other fragment
>>51215872>I remember ryukishi said she would end up being the same as gou Satoko if he woke upHe said something like Satoshi waking up would lead to a reverse of Gou, but I'm not sure if he simply meant that Rika would instead be the one feeling pushed out, or if it would be full on her going psycho.
>>51215854I don't think anyone thinks they aren't totally morally bankrupt, though. They started as fascists and the only reason they were ever opposed to using Hifumi's research for bioweapon purposes was because it could potentially prove Japan as culpable for the Marco Polo Bridge Incident rather than any moral restraints. Them doing a little kidnapping of obstructive politicians' grandchildren and seeing a couple villagers as acceptable sacrifices for the Hinamizawa Syndrome research is just to be expected from people like them.I think what Ryukishi wanted to say is that they're ultimately a pretty mundane group of corrupt shitheads rather than some fantastical evil organization which performs evil acts for the sake of it.Even genociding the village just to discredit the Koizumi faction in the wake of his passing is essentially just a little political power struggle that were common across history. Lots of evil being done in the process, but for very mundane, self-serving reasons.
>>51215891yeah I see what you mean. most of these projects are just means to an end for power, Nomura herself is a clear example of that.By definition they are a "secret evil organization" but I guess Ryukishi was trying to say that they weren't evil for the sake of it or some grand world plan, just means to an end for whatever political games they were playing.

>>51216613>doesn't stop shion from having a healthy relationship with satoshiPretty sure this only happened due to how irrelevant they are, with R07 not even bothering to create children for them or giving them real roles in the story. I'd guess he wanted the children being all unrelated to each other (not how there were no siblings) and keeping the name of their relevant parent, with Sakiko being an exception here, but also note Sakiko is the only one where the non-club member parent was an actual character with role in the story, rather than just background (Kihiro's, Keitaro's) or even never mentioned a tall (Tamaki's).

Probably the worst place to ask but can I get by reading the manga for Umineko?
>>51231392Idk, haven't read it myself, but I know it tries adds some stuff like a better explanation of the culprit motive's and other details of how he done it and some revisions to episode 8.
>>51232778hug
>>51231392Also, Umineko has no choices or routes, you just get to choose the ending and play a mini-game in the last episode. You aren't going to miss a lot in terms of the story.
>>51231392I wonder what you mean by get by but basically no. You lose one of the best OST in any game. You lose an insane amount of script. You lose the charm of the red letters, Umineko in particular works off the VN medium with the red letters you see chapter two on.And you miss some really amazing voice acting. All this is the same for Higurashi too minus the red words.
how can I stop imagining doing unspeakable stuff to the characters of wtcI cant' stop

Would the real Furudo Erika please explain the who and howdunnits of The Thing to me? I don't get it.
>>51235252The Thing is a sort of inteligent alien parasite that expands by assimilating a host and adquiring its memories. Note that I didn't say reproduce because The Thing is always the same individual, no matter how many hosts it has; its cells are just separated, but they are still connected. By the end of the movie, you can interpreted so that one or both of the survivors are the thing or that both are human; although I think that the director confirmed that Kurt Russell was still a human in a interview.
>>51236111Furudo Erika would never say this.
would furudo erika the intellectual rapist say the n word loudly so a lot of people could hear her
