Who is your favorite Touhou artist out there? I am personally a big fan of まちどり
>>51214449I dunno about favorite, there's so many out there, but still, I was immediately reminded of pic related by プリ男. I saw it a couple years back and was instantly struck by it. So unlike ZUN's original art, but also similarly charming in its doodly unprofessional aesthetic. The emotions in the crazed poses and expressions being amplified by the crazy colour choices. The angular, deep-shadows look being the perfect fit for the charmingly tryhard "coolness". And of course, the subject matter. IN characters performing their Last Word spell cards. In the game, we only see the usual char sprite flying in and starting the performance, but how should we really imagine them? What sort of expression does a monster girl, or ghost, or magical human wear when reaching into the deepest part of their pocket for the ultimate trick to outsmart and out-style their opponent in a shooting duel? A prayer to the gods, an unflinching iron mask of smug superiority, utter contempt, or a descent to raving madness? Everything about this is just wonderful. I love this interpretation of ZUN's material, same as I love how wide a range of different interpretations there are.
