I’m working on a free visual novel. I’m mostly done with the script, it’s around the 10 hour ballpark. The Renpy coding is easy enough, but I’m having trouble with the art. For the year I’ve been working on it, my digital art has become ten times better, but I’m really worried about having that unprofessional cheap western-vn feel. Mostly to the the shading I bet…

Congrats for sticking through with it.>unprofessional cheap western-vn feelPlease do not be disheartened by this, but, If you want the 100% honest opinion, You can tell there is a lot of effort in there, however, you can also tell it is beginner art, and you can tell it is western. There are just some ideas that you are missing that ststick out as both. I would give it a shot anyways, and I know others would. VNs by anons have a reputation for trying out cool ideas like with katawa shoujo and snoot game.If you want there are a handful of tricks that you can do to a finished piece that can elevate it quite a bit.That being said it is kind of funny how every time someone here posts about VN they are worried about the art, when almost all of the legendary oldschool japanese VNs have very dodgy art. Stuff like Umineko and higarashi originally have kiddie art, and the original fate vn is kind of on the fence too.

>>51269300I have a playable pre-beta of my game on my hard drive that I'm not doing anything on because QA work utterly bores me & I already know it needs lots and lots to be releasable. QA disinterests me so much I went to work on the sequel.I also got my book back up to 100k words and have periodically moving between editing that and working on my sequel which is at 85k, both scifi, both in the same universe as my games.I have a website domain for my games and universe but I still haven't finished tweaking the site layout enough to be satisfied so it just goes somewhere blank until I upload all that too.I have a problem.

>>51272149I get very close. Usually I stop on the step right before showing them to other people. Because, genuinely, I do not enjoy showing my work to other people. The 10% that is editing, polishing, and worst of all, putting it up in public, all that carries probably 90% of the mental energy. I'm trying not to be like that, promise. I love creating things. I just can't get enthusiasm for letting the general public interact with them,when I can tell myself I finished it, move on to the next project. For what it's worth, I'm not a procrastinator usually.I told a psychologist about this once & he explained there was a huge difference between intrinsic motivation and extrinsic motivation. Some people have an abundance of one and shortage of the other. Only way to trick my brain into polishing it is reminding myself it makes better work in the future.
