Looks like equirectangular projection is a feature in photoshop-like programs, Affinity is free and works well though make sure to save frequently, my first attempt at this was basically wiped out when it hung while saving... This happens often enough (it happened about 6 times during this gen, which is composed of about 12 gens) that it is best to edit your rotation degrees to ensure that they're actually integers, then write them down for each gen you add in.
It does take a while, more so than my more complex gens since you can't easily prepare the next i2i during the current one unless you're very careful about overlapping. It's also fastest to prepare the whole backdrop first, then add the characters.
Obviously, you want to include fisheye in the positives and blurry in the negatives.
Also, Gemini is good at making them and even occasionally manages to make it seamless, though you should provide it with one for reference. Unsurprising that google can make them given how many they'll have available for training data. GPT's ones are functional but not as good.

I reckon the reverse would work out better, if at all. Most styles can render simple head-on lighting/shading reliably; it is low contrast/dulled colour situations that're far more liable to collapse your style, due to poorer-defined distinction between flat colour areas and/or lineart. Way I see it, for a multi-slopper collab like that, the best springboard would be a very simple (maybe even a sketch_background) base, with an area designated for each entrant - and then each of these either sticking to default lighting and simple_background or filling in a detailed background only around their character.

Collabs are just difficult in general to organize I think, I feel like I didn't even do that good of a job organizing the collage we did despite collages being on the easier side of things for group stuff. I've been thinking of what the next one should be to sort of get some practice in and get better at it, but I don't know. Regardless, I'd be up for a single-background collab but we'd all have to agree on a common theme and so-on, and the background issues would persist... but actually I MAY have just gotten an idea for something we could all do.

this is actually a topic I feel quite passionately about so this reply will be a standalone
When a lot of people try making Touhou OCs they fall for some common pitfalls
-Trying to make a high-level final boss / incident culprit type character
-Trying to make their OC just a touhouified version of a diety or legendary beast from some other mythology except being too faithful to the original mythology and essentially just presenting an almost unchanged version
-designing their OC like a gacha game character making them stand out way too much

In order to make a Touhou OC that fits Touhou there's two ways of going about it
Method 1.)
You need to actually study how ZUN adapts youkai and gods into Touhou and this requires a good comprehension of both Touhou lore and the IRL mythology that it's based on
As an example I think one design rule that's become quite apparent with the most recent games is that ZUN likes making characters based on "foreign" mythological beasts and things but he "Japanifies" it and makes the character actually something from Japanese folklore that's merely adopting the look and characteristics of the foreign mythology
For instance: Chiyari was designed to be a Chupacabra (it's kinda obvious if you put the joke aside but he also just plain admitte this to be the case) however Chiyari isn't literally a Chupacabra she's a Tenkajin, Biten = Sun Wukong actually a Sarugami, Enoko = Cerberus but actually a Yamainu, Nareko = A sphinx but actually a Dosojin, Nina = Venus but actually a Shen (which is odd because we've had Hecatia who is meant to be the Greek goddess she's based on)
As such you have a very clear cut template on how to make characters based on non-japanese folklore that fit the Touhou setting

Method 2.)
You use existing Touhou lore as a way to branch out when making OCs
This is a Method I have been begging more people to use
Basically Touhou already provides us with plenty of examples of different "species" of character for you to use as reference for making new ones

We know a lot about human life in Gensokyo thanks to the printworks so you could make an OC human, infinite potential here maybe a waitress at a cafe, a researcher of the non-humans and the supernatural, an engineer interested in technology more than mysticism and faith
You can also use our human and part human MCs for ideas too
Shrine Maidens are a good but risky choice (as you don't want to make anyone too high profile) as we know a lot about how Shrine Maidens operate in the setting, make someone whose a part-time or incredibly weak Shrine Maiden who serves a feral god like Hina (and in-fact making human Shrine Maiden OCs as servants of existing god characters is another good way to come up with ideas)
A human magician is a great and quite versatile option especially since you also have the option to have them make the change into a full blown Youkai magician like Alice
Half-human characters like a Half-Phantom or Half-Youkai can lead to a lot of ideas. Not exactly half-human in the hybrid sense but therianthrope characters are another good one since not only are the rules for their design laid out pretty clearly in PMiSS we have Keine and Kagerou as good examples to follow

Fairies are ridiculously easy to make OCs for as we have had so many examples of fairy designs (like their different wing wing shapes) and fairy behaviour (like their abilities tied to the aspect of nature they're derived from) that you can draw on for reference to keep it feeling plausible. Make a fairy based on the rain, mud, forest fires, lightning whatever the hell you want as long as its natural phenomena

Youkai are tricky but reusing an existing species to make a character of that species gives you more to work with. For instance part of what makes Tenkai work as an OC is that she's a Tengu so she has been leveraging the already existing Tengu lore to add more flavour to her character.
Some like Tsukumogami and Beast youkai pretty much hand you a template for designing a billion OCs since they're just objects / animals ascended to youkaihood so you could have it be based on anything so long as you study the designs of the tsukumogami and beast youkai characters from the games to understand how to design them properly

the minor feral gods (think Aki sisters, Hina, Yorigami sisters) are also kind of tricky but I think the three characters (okay two character pairs an one character singular) I listed as examples are very good to use as reference since they're not based on an actual pre-existing individual deity in Japanese folklore. With gods you can kind of make one for anything you want

A runaway Moon Rabbit (or perhaps Lunarian) OC is also a good choice since we have a variety of Moon Buns to draw inspiration from especially since Seiran's story in UDoALG implies there's a lot more of them now

Basically make OCs that expand on the existing groups and species by making new members.

tricky part is still deciding who gets what kind of portion and where, something like a kuku.lu drawboard has the spaces get filled in more organically but slopping isn't exactly something you can do in real-time.
I still prefer the idea of something with a shared backdrop to put the characters in as it'd give people more organic ideas on where to squeeze in characters into the free space (also I like the idea of the end result looking like one of those NoiseTanker banner images)
Still I'd like to see someone just go for it and see if everyone else joins in

thing is *nameless background* character is hardly a character at all, you can make a character who is meant to be front, centre and unique while still not deviating from the established designs and having them remain unimportant. I think the issue with the characters people genned in the thread afterwards is that they didn't look like Touhou just like generic anime things like a blue horned girl (that kinda reminded me of an artist's porn OC I saw once)
as I was listing out character species there I did actually start thinking if maybe people could try making a couple of shots at more OCs following a theme of either some AI theme, an aspect of this thread or /jp/ like with Tenkai but instead of a Tengu going for something like a fairy, a feral god or a moon bun instead but I fear Tenkai was lightning in a bottle and I don't want to risk breaking the bottle
...though honestly Fairy is still like really easy to do and we all seem to be fans of their kind around here
Though that being said, I think one issue is that frankly the OCs are gonna inevitably drift towards our gooner tendencies and end up not feeling so Touhou as a result of people prioritising optimising them for scenarios over fleshing out how they'd live in the setting (Tenkai got saved lol)
Though in the end I'm really spergy about this topic so just run any OCs by me for quality check, it's the best way

this was an idea I was thinking about *before* the topic of 360 panoramas came up, it was a simple silly idea of Lily, Letty and Yuuka in bikinis and Lily being sandwiched between Letty and Yuuka as a joke about Spring's placement between the seasons and Lily being smaller than those two and I realise the 360 panorama format works good with it
-Letty, Lily, Yuuka and the Aki Sisters standing around posing either wearing bikinis or nude (or fully clothed if you just want to make something cool and not lewd for a bit) have it follow the lineup of seasons so Lily in the middle, Letty to the Left, Yuuka to the Right, have one Aki sister to the left of Letty and the Right of Yuuka so they'll be next to each other when viewed in 360, all looking at the camera with whatever expression you think would fit
I think that's simple enough that there won't be any weirdness mucking things up

Still working on today's gen but in the meantime I may as well get that collab gen idea out of the way, I was thinking that since backgrounds seem to be a limiting factor, maybe we should just... get rid of them? A full-on white background would be *very* lame though and I think it'd make gens feel a little too "separated" from eachother, if that makes sense, so I thought we could maybe have a white background with a SINGLE thing in the middle that could serve as a focal point for characters to gather around and interact with, sort of like picrel, but with a lot more blank space. Could be something like a tree, or a logo, stuff like that. I'd imagine most people see this and think of something along the lines of hanging off of it or standing on top of the object, like picrel but you could, for instance, just have your character be in the white space itself, add a little oval-shaped shadow underneath them so that they're not just hovering in a white background, and make them do all sorts of things like walking towards/away from it, pointing/aiming at it, throwing something at it, etc. When it comes to actually organizing and putting all of this together, though, uhhh... I guess the blob idea isn't too bad? The other idea I had is we'd take turns and have one anon add their character, then another one would call dibs and add theirs, so-on, but the problem with that is an anon could either take days to do so or someone could just come in and stall on purpose. With the blob idea someone would ideally mark their spot, work on whatever it is they want to add there, and then submit their work WITH THE BACKGROUND PRESENT because I don't want to have the work of cropping stuff into the image or worse yet having to figure out what tags/LoRAs you used in order to help your character blend into the image better via a denoised inpaint.

Oh and I forgot to mention but needless to say that once everyone submits everything I'd then edit all of it together.

My idea was that you use the background as a way of positioning the characters but when it comes to the actual pics submitted for the final collage you'd cut them out of the background and just have it be the solo character transparent. Something like those threads where someone posts a pic of like a cafe or something and you're supposed to edit random shit into it but the images are tailormade to work *with* the background.

I've noticed all 3 characters are performing acts that are arguably not the first thought that one would have when thinking of them. For the sake of different niches per group, i've always thought as Komachi, Eiki, and Kutaka as boob, ass, and thigh oriented. I may just be putting too much thought into this, as I am one to frequently ignore conventions for my personal preferences, especially if hormones get a stronger say than usual on the matter while prompting.
I could go on another side tangent about the difficulty of Eiki as a character in lewd situation, and how nailing that expression of disdain at one's perversion, mixed with her genuine good nature, and perhaps a hint of either surprise given her inexperience, or pride at a body that is constantly being reminded that it is often modest,

Speaking of, just checked out the steam page for the aforementioned PoFV-styled game and was completely and utterly jumpscared by the second image on the most recent event/announcement. Yukari's kid ended up getting hitched with the ancestor of the Hakurei lineage about a thousand years ago against her wishes so she ended up pushing that out of her memory after cutting the guy out of her life. It gave the Hakurei's some extra sturdiness which helped with being Exterminators and it's why Reimu has that mentioned talent / knack for working with and dismantling barriers, the screen teleportation trick she does in IN, her ability to literally phase out of reality, the parallels in their moveset (apparition needle = persuasion needle) and it's to explain why in some of ZUN's miscellaneous art he drew her using gaps (and why she specifically ended up being the one to get the ability to use gaps during ULiL)

So basically their encounter in PCB was like a long time family reunion but thanks to the Hakureis not passing down all their knowledge properly and Yukari's trouble remembering stuff that happened centuries ago they had both forgotten that fact but something about those Shrine Maidens feels endearing to Yukari and she just doesn't know why

I wouldn't be surprised if they're doing so because they got some flak for Flickerframe Festival and they're adopting what I call the "double down filter strat" where you decide to emphasise aspects people criticised because 1.) you just love the idea of "scaring off the haters" (a bit like how you get /pol/tards so obsessed with "triggering the libs" they see any reasonable criticism of their obsessive behaviour as "just another salty lib getting triggered, heh I'm winning so hard in this imaginary world I'm making") and 2.) you want to make sure the only people who'll interact in your "new better community" are people who just put up with (or worse are into) that kind of thing, effectively just making an echo chamber

It's being half-done by the Japanese actually, Kaisendo is a japanese circle they're working together on it. I think the issue is more the artists adapting the Hollow Song of Birds characters cause the old General Set looked more like a Touhou character in HSoB than here

Exactly! Jesus, like I know with Touhou fangames you need a small amount of OCs to fill out the cast but this is a PoFV-like, those are literally the games that mostly reuse characters from across the series (PoDD not withstanding but that's cause the series was still new at the time)

y'know I went on a rant in a thread a long time ago about how I notice the Touhou community seems to have an issue where you have some fans who are fans of the actual games and setting, take the time to read the printworks and seek out ZUN's interview statements for more info. The kind who appreciate the spellcards and will take the time to study the sprites for an hour to get all the sweet character info they can from them.
and then you have the fans who are more fans of the vast amount of derivative works of Touhou and "the community" than Touhou itself, the people who take being part of "the fandom" more as their interest than being "a fan". the kind of people who might even overlook the mainline series as simply being the "boring base" the "better fandom" was built off of
I can't help but notice both Flickerframe and this game mostly reuse characters from older fangames which might tell me they're category B.

Throwing my own cent on the Zeitgeist fangame and relative disappointment in regards to its cast, the amount of OCs,
I think OC culture is definitely something that is much more prominent in the western parts of the fandom rather than the eastern one. Throwing my hat in the ring, despite the whole appeal of Touhou being the freedom to create with it, there may be a stronger innate desire to be recognised for your creations, something that appears harder in a meritocratic (in its own ways, and full of exceptions if you know the right people, mostly for the eastern side) franchise. Said character can also act as a vessel for the creator's intentions, although I struggle to believe western Touhou fans, of all people, have such restraints that they don't dare touch the looser, less established characters and fleshing them out to fit whatever narrative you wish to say, out of respect for ZUN. It may, again, be that feeling that the creation isn't 100% their own that may be bothering them.

Touhou as a cultural phenomenon is, whether you like it or not, growing with the times, and that implies the way people go on about consuming it, which is very much related to the way the Internet itself has evolved. More secular, more homely on the surface, yet more insidiously hostile and at the mercy of the whims of human nature, given the amount of time we spend on it. Any home needs a history, a narrative, some bumps along the road. Someone will create adversaries, others will fearmonger. Let this new home shape you for too long and with nothing else to balance it, and your own identity will be at stake, until you're nothing but you're a pit of knowledge, yet a stranger to all, lost in your hallucinations.

Anyway, all of that just to say that the Touhou community stands more divided than ever, although I wouldn't go as far as to say there is much hostility, unless it is brought up, usually just for the sake of outrage baiting. Newcomers are taking on their own path and may end up focusing on one part while neglecting the others. Coincidentally, I haven't seen a guide on how to consume Touhou in its entirety since the Mid 2010s. There isn't as much malice about such decisions as certain people would lead you to believe, rather, just blissful ignorance, and contentment at what is inarguably a behemoth of a franchise. I can see it reflected while I browse for images on social media (less so since the death of Nitter, but still). There are artists that draw 1st generation girls and not much else, there are artists that draw new characters and not much else, and their feed and retweets are a reflection of their own interests, more than support for artists that they've made acquaintances with, or rather, these acquaintances happen to be over a shared interest for a specific generation of characters.

Along with the popularity poll as a constant reminder, needless to say, if you wish for variety in fangames or doujins, you should temper your expectations, but still act respectful towards promising projects that happen to have gone for more conventional picks. The matter of your creations being witnessed by more people is also something that's hard to wrestle with. I recall notorious Nemuno lover @prtn_chan having a bit of a depression over how, despite his best efforts, he never felt like he managed to get more eyes on Nemuno as he wished. The views of whichever platform you post on consistently reminding you of what some would describe as self sabotage is not a pleasant sight. You can see it with some of our posters like Chiyanon, with two of his latest works that I would say are on the same level of lewdness (/e/ tier), with an emphasis on breasts, but one's with Ariya, and the other's with Yukari. The end results: 1.8K vs 1.2K views.

It's a complicated subject, and i've ranted enough as is. Here's a big Larva/Tokoyo God while we're on the subject on OCs (or borderline OCs), and while I do use the LW design for convenience, I must insist that similar designs and even a doujin as early as 2019. I've been enamored by the concept, and the story of the cult of the Tokoyo God ever since Larva's reveal. I think there's a lot of potential to be had even if we to consider a false God route, given the importance of faith to Gensokyo.

It IS self-sabotage in that, by setting out to shift the public perception, you enable your own game's lose condition. Unless you are already a creator with a vast (some might venture over-)reach, to believe you can personally carrot-on-a-stick a fanbase as large and scattered as Touhou's is, in a generous term, unrealistic. Michiking may have infected many with terminal shotacon, but Michiking had already been plenty popular before his own infestation took hold. He had pull before he pushed.

The very best thing you can do as a small-time creator is to stick to your guns, do your own thing, keep your passion well fed - and let others be attracted to the surfeit naturally. Those who would partake, will. Those who wouldn't have, won't. You can lead them to water. You can't make them drink. And, come on. So your favourite character is unpopular. So what? Are you into them for their popularity or their, yanno, them? Not like you run a risk of them getting skipped over by the creator if they fall off on the polls - because ZUN will forget 'em anyway, lmao.

I'm not quite sure I follow exactly what you're saying but I will say having gotten that rant out of my system and having calmed down a bit, that was easily the most spergiest moment of my entire life lol.
I want to like these types of projects. I mean I want more high quality Touhou fangames in general and they clearly have some talented people at work with the actual programming, visual design, game design, music and I have a soft-spot for indie teams that really go out with the professional presentation for devlogs (same news post with the jumpscare OC that set us off gives some really indepth, cleanly organized patch notes alongside a neat showcase video of the updates). In all honesty I do have some lefty leanings in the sense that I actually don't really mind if you want some chocolate flavoured lolis for a change, I like to try new things
but... ugh I just can't get behind these designs at all, I'm tempted to lay the blame squarely at the character illustrators and give the rest of the team a pass but a team ought to have some accountability and quality control going on internally and I still stand by my points, they're valid

I want the western community to really step up and carry our share of the weight the eastern side has been doing for years, I didn't think it was really possible until ADiA came out (reading this article in particular was quite inspiring https://en.touhougarakuta.com/article/touhou-artificial-dream-in-arcadia-interview/ ). But now that I know it can be done, I want to see a massive creative push to achieve a quality parity with the eastern community

Does that concept even make sense within Japanese cosmology? Gods are everywhere and plentiful, with their nature being able to be of any kind, not really distinguished by good or evil or anything, with many of them showing significant overlap.
Especially in Touhou, with gods like Kanako and Okina clearly being very questionable figures, and given that Kawakatsu worked with Prince Shotoku, who in Touhou outright admits to just use Buddhism to unify the nation and firmly establish central authority in the Imperial Court (until it got highjacked by the Fujiwara abusing the regent positions, or the Shogun seizing power and then losing control to his own regent, etc.), then Okina's opposition to the Tokoyo cult is far more likely them being perceived as a threat to the authority of the Emperor than a spiritual threat to the people.
Besides, they're just peasants. Their job is to produce rice to serve their betters and should know their place and not come up with faggy new religions of equality and happiness.

Nice Larva, agreed on the Tokoyo no Kami stuff as well, always thought Japan's regional gods were very interesting, though in my case Hisona's works made me far more interested in Niwatarijin and even to some extent Ame-no-Sagume than Tokoyo no Kami. I don't think big Larva really qualifies as an OC, she's more-so an aged up/EX/powered up verison, akin to EX Rumia or even Advent Cirno (does anybody here even remember Advent Cirno?...)
I agree with your rant as well though I can't help but feel like you got a little sidetracked and started to dive more into popular vs unpopular characters rather than the whole OC thing, unless I missed the point. Anyways, I do find it pretty frustrating when an artist/developer team resorts to the same old oversaturated cast, but at the same time I know they're oversaturated for a reason, and I've grown so used to it that my frustration is more-so one of disappointment than one of anger. I do wish things were different, but I'm not beating myself (or others) up over it.

I eventually fell into this order:
1) WD Tagger for a decent starting point.
2) Check for the core target concept/tags to be added to the whole dataset. For example, for my style LORA, WD Tagger labelled some images with bright_pupils, but white_pupils is what I actually use and needed to hijack. Or, for Nina, not every picture ended up with white_dress, and nearly none did with shell_hair_ornament. Select all, add tag, search and replace.
3) Train a preliminary LORA with a laconic preview prompt to see what "leaks." Tag if it's undesirable. For instance, first version of Nina sprouted frills all over regardless of the generic outfit being genned. Similarly, the very first style LORA bake put half_closed_eyes on everybody unprompted.
In very brief, if it's something you want tied inextricably to the trigger word, leave it out. If it's something you want to be able to control/exclude/replace the base model's understanding of when the LORA's loaded, tag it.
4) Search for and unify generic concepts like clothing terminology, body type, colours. The editor's content filter was made expressly for this part.
4.5) Keep an eye out for stray tags from WD Tagger. They crop up occasionally. One Nina got tagged as a VTuber...
5) Off to real training.

Training itself's been dead simple with Anima-TrainFlow. 32rank, learning rate 1.0, Prodigy optimiser, gradient 1, batch 1. Save every 300 steps. Once baked, take it to Forge and do an XYZ plot with a full-ish prompt for a more direct comparison. Hasn't failed me yet, except where I'd undercooked the dataset or overcooked the training steps.

I feel like so many villagers would be nervous about getting with Akyuu, I mean that's someone with 8 incarnations worth of experience and it's vitally important she have healthy good offspring to continue her lineage so you could easily talk yourself out of it as not worthy enough. Then again I've seen a lot of fanworks go the route of the rest of the Hieda family live life like usual and Akyuu just respawns in one of their kids when the time is right instead of her own direct descendant

nah it actually sounds awkward in italian too, they can be used in place of the person's name so they don't need the possessive. i think the use of "mi" is a mash of "my" and "mio" to bridge the words from different languages? but it's an italian-american thing, not an actual italian word
you can also shorten tesoro and amore to teso' (this can also be used between friends, especially between girls) and amo' (can be used for friends too if you're a trendy northern italian girl OR from rome) when using the whole word is too much effort

On this topic, I put that Nina dataset to good use and trained a LoRA using the same method I used for my first one (adjusted for the increased image count of 40 vs 25). In a vacuum I'd say it went well because the character IS very distinctly Nina but unfortunately I can't really look at it that way because I do already have access to another Nina LoRA so here's what I noticed when comparing the two, sort of wondering if you also had any of these issues so that way we can bounce feedback off of eachother here:
-The very first thing I noticed was that everything was... darker? It always felt like my Nina was being genned at sunset/in the shade, regardless of background or tagging. The overall colors were off too, it felt like my style was being messed with and everything had a higher contrast, in addition to being darker. I get that Nina would probably have a thing or two against glowies but this might be a bit much.
-When it comes to Nina herself, the new LoRA kept missing the mark when it came to her bangs and insisted on genning her with hair_between_eyes. Adding that tag to the negatives somewhat helped, but it was still happening every once in a while. This is something that almost never really happened with the old LoRA unless I dropped its intensity, I didn't even have to tag for or against it.
-The dress length kept being way too short, could be a bonus for some, though, but I found myself having to tag long_dress if I wanted to get a closer outfit to her ingame one and, again, it didn't always work. I also dislike tagging long_dress in general because more often than not it feels like the tag "extends" the character's legs and makes them taller than they should be.
+The frills though are WAY better, the old LoRA sometimes spread a bit randomly throughout her dress and most importantly wasn't as good with their colors, but in this new one they make sense and are much more colorful while also spreading the colors properly throughout her outfit (purple at the top, etc).
+The shell hair ornament is also way better, again it felt sort of random with the old LoRA but here it always looks distinctly like Nina's shell ornament (half-open with a black void inbetween in the gap, with sometimes yellow dots for eyes). Go to literally any older Nina gen of mine and you'll see that the shell in those is either closed or has weird green lighting and random green orbs inside of it.
+Her eyes were actually yellow and not a weird orange with a purple gradient I'd sometimes get.

I think, overall, I prefer the old LoRA purely because of the style issues, wondering if it's just bad training on my part. Picrel is one of the better examples but here are a few random raw T2I gens that better highlight the issues I was having: https://pastebin.com/QiLQD3QE

Also on a slightly unrelated sidenote, the dataset tool you have is great. Since you're on Comfy I'm assuming you have a built-in local WD Tagger, I tried looking it up though to see if there was a standalone local version of it or anything like that and couldn't find any that didn't require me installing stuff like Comfy or Kohya, though, but maybe I just didn't look well enough. I used the Web Demo before, you reckon it's good enough?

This did, as a matter of fact, happen to me as well - but only with versions trained for over 3000 steps. Given there are comparatively few images in this dataset, we may have both overfitted. Try earlier iterations. Going back to 2700 steps on my end eliminated the issue. Common mistake (according to Gemma).

Hm. Not the case here. Swept bangs whether I tag them or no. Try again with model defaults and see whether it persists. Might be weights from your style LORA overpowering the character - is one explanation that springs to mind. Tagging swept_bangs in the dataset then/or in generation could be another workaround.

Thought my LoRA might've been overcooked as well so I retrained it with less steps (~2000 the 2500 that I had originally tried) but it still wasn't enough, everything's dark and high-contrast yet again with a preference for sunset on anything that's tagged as "outdoors" despite also adding "blue sky" and having "sunset" in the negatives. Guess it's just a training issue on my end. I did add swept_bangs to the LoRA and noticed an improvement there, at least, but since 2000 is supposedly the "minimum" interval for a good LoRA... I think that's the end of my Nina adventure. Hopefully the other LoRA I'm working on doesn't suffer these same issues.

comparing just these raw images Reav's version got the colour gradient pattern on the frills down perfectly. The dress is overall very accurate except for the sleeves which are longer, can't help but notice as well the Reav version doesn't have her hair tied up with those cords. FYI, this is working as intended. The ties are marked in the dataset, so what happens is the LORA does NOT associate them intrinsically with the trigger word - in this case, the character name. What this means is you're unlikely to see hair_ties crop up unless you specifically tag them in positives in addition to the trigger word. It makes the prompting process a tad more counter-intuitive to start (cause you'd think watari_nina = those hair ties, so no need to point this out, right?); however, it makes swapping hair styles much easier in turn, as you needn't fight the model treating Nina and the hair ties as inseparable elements of the whole. Same for clothing, accessories, etc.
... Arguably, this isn't the best of possible approaches, since the vast majority of users out there do not tend to pedantically prompt costume details, and expect a character LORA to reproduce all of a character's visual traits as a matter of course. Which is very much a valid assumption. This dataset was tailored to my own habits, so it is what it is.

WallButt scenarios aren't normally my forte but the dialogue was fun enough. Surprisingly editing it was quicker than I expected, the way you positioned the text in the bubbles meant all the offending sections were already seperated from the actual hot dialogue
Though seeing this preview pic >>51287256 actually made me wonder if this is one way to do collab pics, like make something with the composition cut apart with panelling, characters mid-dialogue but without any dialogue, blacken out one panel and then have every other sloppa try filling in the blackened panel and add their own dialogue. Fixes the artstyle background problem kinda (^ ^;)
Plus it'd be fun to see how creative people can get with it or see how much trolling happens with trying to avoid the obvious outcome the initial slopper was trying to lead you to

By the way, tried out some of these checks. Option 1 is sort of unavailable for me right now as 2000 steps IS the least I've ever used, suppose I could try training a 1500 step one now though, but either way, I did try Option 3 and had awful results. Not only was the lighting/colors still messed up but her design started to deteriorate, too, notably her frills and sash. Also as the Ninatist pointed out I did also notice that her sleeves are way longer than they should be, so that's another thing this LoRA's not getting right compared to the existing one... dunno. I guess I've still got Option 2 to try out but it's looking quite bleak, especially considering I did finish training another LoRA I had been working on and came across the same exact color/darkness issue (albeit it's not as bad as on Nina), sort of confirming that it's a training issue on my behalf. Not that it really needed confirming as I already knew it couldn't possibly have been the dataset.

The only settings not pictured here is that I use float16 (a necessity unfortunately) and I have my datasets set to 2 repeats since they're relatively small. I'm also changing the number of epochs based on this formula, with which I initially aimed for 2500 but have since lowered to 2000 and, with this most recent LoRA, 1900:
Dataset Imagecount x Repeats x Epochs = Steps
So in your LoRA's case, I went with 40*2*32 at first which gave me 2560 steps then I lowered the epochs to 25 which gave me 2000.
I got all of that from following this guide in conjunction with advice from an anon whose LoRAs I previously used and quite liked: https://civitai.com/articles/10889/training-noobai-vpred-loras-using-onetrainer-with-12-gb-of-vram-in-30-minutes

Scribbled over an old Raiko gen + i2i to add Meru. Scribbled on that + i2i to add Lyrica. Not too difficult, given the subjects are more or less separate, plus Anima takes directional cues pretty well, so later 1x i2i isn't as messy. i'm have a local rig, using comfyUI. I've got the WAI-illustrious-SDXL model, with a bunch of LoRAs for artstyle and upscaling. I just followed the guide pretty much. I think it was on /g/? I would love to try more models though.

Then the rules of thumb are thus:
1) Tag absolutely everything you want to see. It may be challenging to think of everything to start, but the reality is the more guidance you give to the model, the less vague garbage inferred from your laconic prompt it's going to spit out.
If it helps to visualise, my tagging strategy goes: 1girl/2girls/etc., character name, eye colour and type, hair colour and style, body type tags, expression of the eyes, expression of the mouth, overall pose, body parts' positions, top half of the costume, bottom half of the costume, on-body decals (sweat, dirt, fluids, hair), other subjects, interactions with other subjects, lighting, location, background props, angle type (wide, cowboy shot, upper body, from above, etc.), vfx.
It's not strictly necessary to be this thorough, mind. WAI's one of the best IL tunes at filling in - but, even its guesses only so far.
2) Make sure your tags actually ARE valid booru tags. Can't speak for Comfy; for A1111 by-blows, forge-neo and so, we've got extensions to keep track of that for us.
3) The single biggest quality bump for SDXL is indeed what we call upscaling. This is a bit of a misnomer, because the term usually applies to using an upscaler model (ESRGAN, Ultrasharp, your waifu2x of old) to stretch the image out with some enhancements. "Upscaling" in our parlance instead means taking your output to image2image and re-generating it at a higher resolution, using a stretched out version of the t2i base as guidance. "Hires fix" is the same function, if it rings a bell.
Anyway, SDXL runs a relatively small latent (think under-the-hood) resolution, which is why its raw outputs tend to look muddy, even if 1024x1024 sounds like it should be a lot of pixels. Upscaling's a whole another can of worms, so maybe try to pin down t2i for now. Just internalise that your stuff CAN look better - only not in t2i.

If you catbox a gen with metadata, we can look at it and see if any wrong settings jump out. Also, unless you're on Linux and/or AMD, do consider switching to forge-neo. It is seriously more beginner friendly.

I think ZUN clarified in WOoHS, Akyuu has to read something first for it to be added to her perma memory, info learned through hearing or other methods is not remembered as well. Plus there's the whole line about how her only knowledge that carries over when she reincarnates is mostly chronicle related.
So unless Hieda no Aya, her predecesor, wrote down "Dear diary, I got fucked superrrr good today. I'm going to describe it in detail" and Akyuu read it, Akyuu's experience would be more like vague muscle memory instincts on the matter. Like she'd give an 11/10 divine blowjob but with the nervousness of a virgin, she'd know how to angle herself to get you slamming her g-spot with every thrust on instinct.

Assuming you mean Album stuff, it depends on the type of text/caption. If it's 2D and not overly stylized, like OP, I use https://www.myfonts.com/pages/whatthefont/ on the original cover to get as close of a font as possible and add the text myself on Photoshop, but on more stylized/3D logos (like the Metallica and Megadeth logos, for example) I tend to get Gemini to do it, then edit the new text onto the existing gen and inpaint it at a denoise level that lets it blend into the image better without changing the text too much. For that Roxy album above I initially tried method 1, but I got particularly unlucky and all the similar fonts were paid, so I just got Gemini to do it.

Nothing smart to say, except wow, LORAs for characters with wholly unique facial features that directly contradict the model's weights sure are a pain to pin down!
Anyway, tiny dataset (20 images) of singularly poor quality, so I wasn't experiencing a style leak as much as a style collapse - despite plugging in my own style LORA. What helped was marking visual style traits in the dataset (thick_outlines, etc.) and retraining. Still weakens the other LORA's effect, but suppose with 20 shitty images and more than 1000 steps necessary before it even remotely caught on to the character expectations ought to be tempered.

Contrarywise she does a lot for me, despite the fact that I don't really care for her character that much. While she'd be awful to deal with on the day-to-day in any other situation for a one night encounter the mindreading becomes a plus as it means she knows exactly everything you want to do to her deep down in your heart and can say "I know everything you want to do to me and the answer is yes to everything, don't hold back." Well, my first thought was "the background and overall colors are weird, and I need to replace the leopard with something", and a character being on a leash immediately led me into S&M which in turn lead me into Yuuka & Tenshi, which also helped with the overall background issue because it meant I could replace the black theme and cityscape with a green theme and row of sunflowers, respectively. I gotta say though, a dapper Satorin walking a big Orin would've also been a great choice, it just didn't cross my mind whatsoever because "mature lady in a gala dress" was a massive curveball that Satori couldn't possibly ever hope to catch.

JSON is very helpful with more complex gens from Gemini. A while ago I looked up how they recommend you prompt it for images, and it had some examples of JSON prompts for comics - with it being fairly specific about the contents. From my testing, if you don't use a JSON it's about half a step better than Anima at image composition etc., while if you do it blows Anima out of the water. At a guess, behind the scenes the text generator creates a prompt for the image generator but when it does so it isn't as intelligent as when the text generator is directly replying to you. Giving it the JSON means that it's basically got all of the information it needs in a format it understands, so it'll get things like outfits correct and on the right person.
You should always check over the JSON first though, and possibly regenerate it if it's lacking in detail or doesn't actually do what you're wanting.

I just wanted to emphasise the fact that I think the cuddling and actual sleeping part would be *that* good. I think we tend to focus a lot on the sex we don't think about the actual sleeping with part, I think characters like Miyoi or Kagerou would really shine in that department. It's like this I bet Tewi's tight bunny and millenia of honing her skills at moving her hips would make her superior to Reisen when it comes to milking you dry but who would you prefer to cuddle and comfort (goes both ways mind you) after a stressful day at work and sleep with in each other's embrace? That is the appeal of Byakuren to me, her divine bod is a secondary but very welcome point of attraction (boy I don't know why but I'm feeling extra articulate with expressing why I'm attracted to characters lately; see earlier spiel about Satori's breedability)

I was thinking of something like that maybe just humorously genning a scenario of people having sex outdoors somewhere and through the window or in the background you can see the original scenario happening
Taking a memorable example, remember that gen of Redhead-kun and Yuuka having sex in an alleyway while Elly peeks in shocked? Yeah that scenario but we get the behind Elly POV where it reveals Nephew-kun was doing her from behind the whole time too.

I think it would be funnier to just slap names on there along with a snippet of dialogue from the 2hus to make you go "woah woah what happened THERE?!" that's why I threw out Youmu and mysteriously had her give the lower rating of the group
I put the stage level format in there as a joke but honestly maybe that could be another spark of inspiration, have it be an incident that required the characters to get with all of them and they're rating their performances and then just pick 7 characters to fill out a standard Touhou game boss list. Here's another hypothetical
"Stage 1 - Landlord-kun"
Reimu - 1 "He stunk of blood and ash and just lazily pumped it in until he finished"
Sakuya - 3 "He had a nice size and all but it seemed his heart wasn't in it, as a top notch high class lady I understand he must not have the palate to appreciate it"
Marisa - 9 "He told me to put on this green smelly shirt but the second he did he went at me like an animal! I'd rate him higher but everytime he ran his hands over my chest he'd call out another girl's name the incident must have hit him hard"

The only overlap required is for Reimu and Marisa, the third person can be interchangeable, ironically having a character "get around more" only makes it more likely you'd have to reverse the format instead have it be the guys rating the girls which could work maybe for something more like Grimoire of Usami's format (where the judges change constantly)
Though if you really wanted to expand (Spoiler)'s range Ironically you could work backwards from the Nina gen and have the idea be "characters who have a relationship of somekind with Marisa" cause with how much of a social butterfly she is you got a lot of choices (let's see we got Reimu (done), Mima, Patchouli, Alice, Narumi, Sakuya?, Meiling?, Three Fairies, Nitori, Byakuren, Kosuzu, Enoko... frankly this list goes on and on!)
something to be done there with Alice, Narumi and the implied hatred / distaste for magic (spoiler) has in canon, maybe Marisa's trying to have her friends change his mind?

I remember there was a trend for a bit of Touhou x Ace Combat crossover pics posted to danbooru of the girls flying around with the HUD
A jet's not too far fetched with a genius engineer girl (quoting ZUN here) and the Kappa around.
I know CAS ground attack planes that are more armoured tend to get nicknamed as "flying tanks" though I think the only jet examples I know of are the A-10 and Su-25 which checking now... appear in Ace Combat 8!
So just slap some black paint, a bright red letter Sigma (or maybe something like Rho or Pi insinuating this is merely a predecessor) and you're good to go

Like changing the sprites, artwork, background elements, stuff like that? With how advanced AI is now you could probably make a fully fledged new game using AI, with all of that. Of course it would probably lack "soul" if you just get the AI to do everything, so I imagine it'd be best to decide what you want to do by hand manually and what to let the AI do. That being said, I think it would be cool to at least include art in the artstyle of one of the anons ITT for the character portraits.

I think your penchant for keeping certain characters consistent means that a lot of your girls even when they're sleeping around are merely duogamous(?) instead. Someone like Hisami whose dressed like a courtesan and whose character is literally about seducing people to get tempted (and if not tempted dragged) into Hell feels ideal for sex with random new guy scenarios and yet you've only genned her with Hakurei-kun and a new Oni Kishin guy you made up specifically for Hell scenarios. Why is the character that screams "xX_VirginSlayer_Xx" not sleeping around?

I feel like the first ever Kirisame Magic Shop speed dating event would be how they met though I'd imagine they'd all be much younger. Bah, that'd get rid of a large appeal of the character for me. Her being human is what makes her so interesting, she's a massive outlier. One of Touhou's "Forbidden fruits", as you put it.

Not sure if I ever shared this, but my headcanon for the two meeting has always been the following: Farmboy-kun buys an outside-world device from Kourindou to aid with farmwork, but it stops working. He wants it repaired, but the Kappa would charge too much for it, so he asks around for alternatives. Someone mentions a workshop run by a human in the woods that offers cheaper prices, though they warn him that the human in charge has a temper, to say the least. Farmboy-kun goes there, meets Rika, who seemingly rants about everything while she fixes his device, including Farmboy-kun himself, who interprets it as banter and returns in kind. Rika gets caught off guard by this, some more back-and-forth exchanges occur, insults turn into questions, assumptions turn into challenges, flirting ensues. Before this, I had another scenario that was just "You're going for a walk in the woods and Rika gets her tank stuck on a ditch trying to avoid running you over, she guilt trips you a bit for it so you put all that brawn to use and try to get her tank out, flirting ensues.", but I like the former better.

FYI, this is 90% a skill issue. Minimax H3 takes very meticulous instructions, down to specific timestamps, and accepts visual and audio references. I'm just not invested enough to find an extract those for a one-off. So, what you hear are the "defaults." You can totally make it a whole project, though. The capacity's there.
... Also, my gold standard for Touhou voices' (M1) Flan is kind of meh, so... yeah.

Seldom saw anybody put effort into their SD1.5slop, so I did and learned. Seen altogether too little of X-character-interpretation, so I made my own. And so on.
