reposting my question to the touhou coop dev.
did you contact zun about you making a touhou game? if so how did it go? do you plan to sell this game?
>>
The Arena is back for the weekend!

https://oosad.itch.io/touhou-web-arena
https://github.com/OOSad/TouhouWebArena/releases

Patch notes:
>Four new characters: Reisen, Yuuka, Aya and... Clownpiece?! Along with their stages.

>Rebalanced the entire game around the game's own files: spellcards, bullet sizes, hitboxes, fairy trains, Lily Whtie... everything should feel a lot more faithful and less jank now!

>The bot has been rewritten again. It's quite a bit tougher now, able to sometimes survive tricky situations like getting caught at a corner.

Important: the game no longer carries any of ZUN's assets. So now, everybody has to bring their own files, that'd be th09.dat, th15.dat, and both thbgm.dat files from their respective game folders.

Yes, I know. It's a drag and super annoying. You only have to do it once though; the game takes what it needs from the files and stores said needed files in a cache folder... somewhere.

Either way, please enjoy and if you'd like, drop some feedback or ideas even, I'm happy to hear them.

(if it doesn't show your name on the player list, give the game a few seconds to spin up the relay server)
>>
>>51283088
No, I didn't contact ZUN (how would some random ass person on the internet even do that?). It WAS a yolo project; the official materials were the most expedient way to get a prototype off the ground. It was either that, or I generate every single pixel of art the project needs (I have no money).

No, I was not and am not going to sell it anywhere. I believe in the vision for the game. To play PoFV online with as little friction as possible. That's my motivation.

I was planning on continuing until I got called out, at which point I would decide whether to scrap it or keep developing it. Well, I got called out, and it was early enough, so I decided to shift to this Bring Your Own Files approach.

There is at least one guy out there who has the desktop build with ZUN's assets on it though. Oops. That guy now has the most pristine, unique copy of TWA in the world. I hope he's happy...
>>
>>51284889
>bring your own file
Don't see much reason to play now desu, why not play the original at that point?
>>
when will they update the 1cc Tracker to feature EoSD NC?
>>
>>51283088
Regular people never need to contact ZUN about making a touhou game, read the guidelines again. They only block companies and crowdfunding runs, unless permission is asked.
>>
>>51284889
>the game no longer carries any of ZUN's assets
Anon please, that's how you kill any interest in a small project like this. Ease of usage is always the first and foremost priority, Ruw won't come for you ass if you're only having a dozen people play for now, and you should get usable replacements ready before you even consider switching away from the official assets.
Don't let the LLM talk you into making these dumb decisions.
>>
>>51287906
Yeah, I am the biggest moron in the room right now. I just let a faceless dog bark me out of my own project ethos. My goal shifted from making the most frictionless version of PoFV that exists to "I don't want to get into any trouble". Several people have already told me it's not a big deal, just don't be stupid, give credit where it's due and don't sell without permission.

Patch notes:
>Prismriver sisters
>Mystia
>Tewi
>Medicine Melancholy
>Boss indicator at the bottom of the screen
>Star of david magic circle and circular health bar around the boss
>The game no longer requires you to bring your own files

Thank you for setting a buffoon straight on the correct path again. Expect Komachi and Shikieiki in a bit.

It's not like they were wrong though.
You can just read the fanwork guidelines
"Your Fan Content should NEVER have:
...
Anything that is extracted from official Touhou Project games.
"
>>
>>51287900
>Regular people never need to contact ZUN about making a touhou game

do you mind linking them? genuinely asking, it's important to me.

NTA but literally the first google result

thanks anon. from what i see it only touches upon monetizing mobile/browser games, and not stuff like steam releases, so i'm not sure, unless i'm reading this incorrectly.
>>
>>51288500
You're definitely reading this incorrectly
The first rules i.e "fan content should/shouldn't have" apply broadly
And then later he specifies rules for specific types of fanworks like the "mobile/browser games must be free to play"
>>
>>51288510
okay, thanks anon.

Nope. That's called doujin spirit, I recommend reading more about it.

New version is out. Patch notes:
> Komachi and her stage
> Shikieiki and her stage
> Remilia (no stage yet)

I'll keep this weekend's playtest running until tomorrow night. If you have any suggestions or ideas about what characters to do next, I'd be happy to hear them too.
>>
>>51288047
I gave it a go and tried CP vs Remi, I was mainly curious about how well they work in a VS game.
CP looks quite balanced, but the lasers of her EX attack are loud as fuck, tone that down.
Remi looks nice, but her charge attack is piss easy to dodge, the lance should probably be much larger and faster. Her EX attack, on the other hand, is a little too strong. The bats are fast as fuck and pretty hard to see on dark backgrounds.
Also, you should add a "Charge is now 3/4" indicator next to the player sprite like what PoFV has. It's pretty important.

which games have a decently balanced hard mode? want to start pushing my skill more.

Balanced in what sense?
As in the least difficult? I think PCB is one of the easier ones.

I'm currently trying to clear HRtP, there's a few things that annoy me about the game.
>It's really easy to accidentally bomb, somehow
>There's absolutely zero use case for the stationary rapid fire after sliding, it almost feels like a punishment for trying to shoot after sliding with how worthless it is.
>>
>>51292807
>accidentally bomb, somehow
Yeah because there are two (I think) ways to activate it
>There's absolutely zero use case for the stationary rapid fire after sliding
I used it quite a bit to end the slide a bit earlier
>>
>>51292811
>there are two (I think) ways to activate it
Indeed. There's left+right+Z, which is probably what anon has been triggering by mistake, and X+Z twice, which is more reliable but sometimes doesn't trigger when you want so I press thrice to make sure.

What game has the best chance of being beaten with no memorization? First try shit. Pure reflex gaming. Difficulty is irrelevant here (though I expect you wouldn't play anything other than Easy here) except for Reisen's Ultramarine gaming. That doesn't count.

I got MoF ReimuA Normal that way, so that's a decent candidate if nothing else.

Play Legacy mode as Reisen if you want to enjoy the game without going through cock and ball torture. I thought the same as you until I gave it a try and it's actually a fun experience for a change.

>>51296470
i have more or less the same opinion. though the game play really has soured my impression of the entire work. it's like doing explosive diarrhea over the mona lisa.

i might do this when i feel motivated to play it again.

The Arena is back once again this weekend. Three new characters in versus, and various miscellaneous fixes and additions like a rebuild of Hakugyokurou, a boss timer, shockwaves now clear Remilia's bats, and performance should generally be smoother on the browser.

For all my bros who don't like fighting other people: this update is for you. Get together with a homie (or the CPU) and fight your way through six stages of randomly selected bosses from the Touhou™ series. Buy Unconnected Marketeers cards from the shop with currency based on your score and how well you do to spice things up between stages. There are 12 bosses and 2 playable characters in the pool right now, with more coming soon. You also have a records screen where you can track your clears in all difficulty modes and with all characters.

https://oosad.itch.io/touhou-web-arena

(if the player list doesn't show your name right away, please give it a minute, it takes a bit for the relay server to spin up when it detects activity)

If you have any feedback or ideas, I'd be glad to hear it, and thank you for your continued interest in Touhou Web Arena!

>i might do this when i feel motivated to play it again.
What's the highest difficulty you've 1cc'd and which game?
I'd say LoLK Legacy Mode Normal (as Reisen) is just about Hard difficulty of the average game.

Here are some hints to help motivate you:
- The challenge in LoLK is getting a large graze count and killing as many enemies in the scene as you can. You need about 200 graze if you can get a 100% kill rate, otherwise you need more graze to make up for less kill rate. Reisen's shot is weak so there are some scenes you won't be able to kill much, so you're going to have to graze a bit more to make up for it.
- For bosses' nonspells, if you can afford to (as in, if you're skillful enough), try and hold off the Z key when their health is low to graze up to 200 before moving on, since starting/ending a boss' spellcard counts as a 100% kill rate obviously. This is especially relevant for the first 3 bosses since their health is much lower and their patterns are not as tough as later stages. You might not need to hold off the Z key for spellcards because they're all generally much more dense than nonspells, and you will reach 200 graze easily.
- Reisen's bomb can help you get higher graze since it increases your hitbox size, but be advised that it makes dodging a crapshoot.
- As soon you take a hit with her bomb, you're invulnerable for less than half a second before you get hit again. If you're on your last hit and in a bad spot and need to bomb again then better start spamming the bomb button. Also hearing the pichuun repeatedly can be distressing, just ignore it.
- There is quite a bit of memorization and routing needed for this game, more so than others at the same difficulty level, so you'll have to memorize the stage patterns especially stage 3 and 5.

These aren't the best advice but you gotta give LoLK another shot. I really hated the game because Point Device mode was really fucking annoying to play and it put me off the game for years, perhaps my least played. Recently decided to go in seriously in Legacy mode (though with Reisen as a crutch) and realized how actually fun it is, albeit VERY different from the rest of the games.

Getting better, but I've just tried using a controller for the first time (I usually use antimicro-x to map it to the keyboard) and noticed that with the mapper I was getting double directional inputs. So I disabled it and tried using the controller directly, but it turned out none of the controller's buttons were mapped in the game and there's no way to map them.
Can you add a setting for disabling controller input entirely? I bet some people would also like to have controller button mapping, but I prefer to user the keyboard mapper so just disabling it would be good enough for me.
>>
I've finished DA today, the last attack (10-6) took me way too long to get...
Anyway the game was pretty fun, even if a little short managed to get all achievements (except the 10hour playtime one obviously) at around 7 hours of total playtime.
Shame that VD kinda sucks meaning that this is the last decent spell card side game.
>>
>>51303195
>Shame that VD kinda sucks
I've found it alright, at least decent enough to put the effort to beat all the chapters entirely.
>>
>>51303133
Refresh your page. You should now have options for remapping and disabling the controller altogether. (ctrl f5 for a reload with no cache forced in case that doesn't work)
>>
>>51303274
Thanks, the control disable works fine.
I tried the button mapping out of curiosity and it doesn't seem to recognize any controller inputs, though. I'm using a Retro-Bit Sega Saturn Pro in wired XInput mode, if that matters.
Also found a small bug, if you choose Match on the main menu and press Right three times it'll switch to the Password input instead of looping the selection.
