This thread is for anything related to the discussion of Japanese light novels, WN / Web Novels included.
Learning Japanese to avoid mistakes and subtext trimming by translations and MTL is highly recommended.

>I picked it up because it looked like better written yuri
Just based off a quick read of the synopsis, I thought it'd be one of those quasi-yuris where you have to squint your eyes to see any hints of sexual/romantic undertones because it's actually just about friendship/sisterhood.
>The ending is going to haunt me for a while.
Yeah, there was like two or three posts I saw saying pretty much the same thing; I guess I'll make it the next thing I read. Hopefully it's not just another "they finally get together for good but then one dies and they story ends" type deal though.

>those quasi-yuris where you have to squint your eyes
The focus in definitely the friendship and/or something else. It keeps you hooked because you want to find out how it's going to play out. And it's very drawn out.

The ending is kinda worse than that. It has a handful of soap opera gimmicks, but not the tragic nonsense 9/10 romantic films have.

I'm kinda excited now, thanks for the review

You won't regret it.

FWIW this (>>51295423) was not me (>>51290710).
I do not have much confidence in my reviewing because it's all subjective, but thanks for the bump.
Or did you want to discuss it?

Asking for this again.

Let me leave this here to let it be

How do you anons read a story when you have been spoiled and basically your waifu/favorite character just loses (dies, gets rejected by protagonist or you just KNOW he/she won't win, is sidelined by main hero/heroine having more moments with protagonist, is wrecked for the sake of story)? Do you drop the series or do you keep braving on?
>>
>>51300992
If I get spoiled early on about something like that I just drop it.
>>
>>51300992
I actually look forward to spoilers in most cases. It's not like they take much away from my enjoyment and even though part of the suspense is gone, seeing how a story goes from point A to point B is very interesting in itself.
If the ending is not what I expected, I'll be slightly bummed but well.

It's not a LN, but many years ago I saw Punpun's big spoiler on /a/ and stopped reading it right then and there, mostly due to the shock.
I finally finished it reading it last year, 14 years later and I can't say I regret it. What happened, what did not happen, etc. kept brewing inside my head, so the emotional impact and catharsis were a lot bigger.

Just a general quesiton here:
WHat genres of light novel interest you the most in reading?
What tropes are your favorite to see in a lightnovel?
And lastly what themes are you looking for to see in lightnovels more often?
And what tropes are you tired of seeing.
ANything else would be so helpful. thankyou

Chuuni action novels.
Don't care about any particular trope all that much, just want the story be engaging and interesting.
Willing to read about anything if execution is good enough.
Idk, let's say harem just for the sake of MC having harem with girls lacking any personality to differentiate them from standard archetypes.
