I think the only time Ciel didn't job throughout all of Tsukihime (OG) was when she ambushed SHIKI once outside of the manor during one of the far side arcs. Then she managed to "tie" with him again (she did a hit and run cuz she would have lost otherwise) when he was feeding in the city. Maybe in the remake they made her more impressive? I'd hope so because it's honestly pretty embarrassing to be a Cielhead.

It has mostly fun slice of life and fan service scenes, but the main narrative, or the "red thread of the story", is still very interesting to read through between those comfy scenes. The story introduces a new Master, a new Servant and a new member of Church, so it actively explores the world that was still limited in FSN.Without spoiling anything, HA fills many plot holes that were left open in FSN. For example, there are scenes showcasing the backgrounds of familiar Servants, as well as other Mage families. The way how Holy Grail works is a central part of the main story. I believe HA is one of the very few canon sources that tells anything about the Third Fuyuki Holy Grail War, so in that regard, HA is an essential part of the overall Fate story. Also, London as the center of magecraft community is represented more in HA.HA is very much so important to Fate and TM lore, since it laid a basis for the prequel, Fate/Zero, and the sequel, Lord El-Melloi novels (which can be argued whether they're considered canon or not). Nonetheless, as a standalone VN, HA is initially a good bye for Fate fans. You were supposed to be seeing these characters for the last time, which is why there's this lingering melancholy floating around the story. HA makes FSN complete.Honestly, read HA. Character interactions are pure fun and the minigames are a nice addition to the whole package (even though the Hanafuda minigame took me hours to beat). HA is one of my favourite VNs of all time

Just finished Saber's route for the second time, this time in the original language. And I'm revising my original opinion after this and reading Tsukihime (OG) recently. The ero scene writing is perfectly serviceable. The first scenario is perhaps a little contrived and maybe could have been better as a sloppy kiss scene instead, with the actual first sex scene being the second one. But there is little to be embarrassed about as a writer I think, it's not notably better nor worse than many others, and I would call it an improvement from Tsukihime.I am most sad now that Saber letting her hair down when she feels safe and such has effectively been erased. It was cute here, and it would have been sweet if in something like 衛宮さんちの今日のごはん she had her hair down. Maybe she does in HA, I haven't read that yet. But I do understand that the Saber hair bun is iconic, so maybe hair down Saber would never have been a thing anyways. Other than that, it's an okay route. I don't really think it stands on its own like the other two, but it does a lot of important setup for them so you can't avoid it.I have watched the UBW and HF anime a lot more recently than when I originally played the game, so I wonder how my more clear memories will affect my perception of those routes to come.

Shiki is okay, better than Shirou that's for sure, but so much convoluted stuff happens to facilitate his existence that he reminds me of Ichigo from Bleach. He's not that likable either, also Nasu didn't use of the fact that Shiki's not a virgin to make him act normal around girls. So much wasted potential.

I'm currently reading through the Mahoyo VN and one thing I really like is the sound design. Now it doesn't seem like much compared to video games for example but I really like the sound steps make when someone is walking, or the rain or the clattering of chairs at school. I liked that in Tsukihime Re too and it's something important to me when I play a game of watch an anime.
