Are you working on some big art project? A book? A game? an animation? Maybe learning an interesting new skill? Are you working on a dream you always wanted to pursue? i want to hear about it! Share details, progress, and discuss. Being an otaku is all about creativity. Lets push each other to make cool stuff.Previous thread : >>51269300>What is this threadThis is a thread for jaypees to post and discuss interesting projects or goals they are working on. Lurk less, try more.No need to be shy.Even if you are not sure if you will stick to it, even if you think others might find it stupid, give it a shot. Same with this thread. Growing pains are better than stagnation.
>>51321274I'm way behind but I am working on my Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi inspired candle lamp for the back of my yard. It backs up to a pond and I built tall candlelit lamps for both sides of the path leading up to the pond and a small Dock at the pond itself.
Should I learn to draw paizuri, or is it pointless these days with AI?
>>51321274I have recently started learning two languages. Might also learn a bit of programming because I have found available programs unhelpful and think I can do a better job.
>>51321311That is crazy cool anon. If you got any progress pics please post them.I really love seeing prop and handmade crafts. There was an anon making stained glass of youmu in the first thread which was sick. I hope people post more stuff like that. I wonder if we have woodworkers or blacksmiths here.
>>51321449I might have some old ones. It is pretty boring stuff. Dollar Store cookie tins and tuna cans frankenstied up into outdoor candle holders enclosed in glass. I can fabricate, gunsmithing and some blacksmithing. But I am the worst woodworker who ever lived. Always have been. Wood to me is the stuff you burn to keep warm or (by somebody else) made into a baseball bat.
>>51321427I remember I was picking up japanese just as my old spanish was being forgotten and would weirdly mix in spanish into my japanese since they are both straight phonetic.Any reason why both at once? Interesting that you got physical workbooks too
>>51321462Boring is fine too. Post some.I have some things I made out of aluminum and wood I could post tomorrow. I just gotta spend time digging them up.>GunsmithingPost ghost guns.
>>51321471I'll look for some pix tmw.
For anyone studying japanese, there was a sentiment in the previous thread against the daily japanese threads. Someone made this thread, it might be interesting to the ones that want practice but do not want to use those.>>51319835
>>51321316if you think drawing is fun, then draw. but if you just want paizuri pics with your waifu, then it'd probably be easier to gen them
I'm at 32200 words in my light novel and I think I'm close to figuring out how to end the light novel it even solves the problem of tying up the Loose Ends having three beta readers is helping a lot one thing I do if I don't know what to write is I find the random painting and just start writing what I think might have happened in the painting when you ask a lot of questions as you write and helps being able to write more
>>51322889Inspiration from paintings for writing is pretty cool. What kind of stuff do you use baroque paintings?
>>51322937It can vary as it depends what catches my eye normally it's something that is rather expressive I think as long as the painting speaks to me it could be from any painting as long as I'm able to imagine what might have happened
There was a drawing that I saw a while ago, it doesn't exist anymore so I decided to redraw it from my memory while adding some stuff as I see fit.
I recently gotten pissed off at myself for never finishing my projects.I keep trying to finish an animation but something breaks.I want to finish an animation by the end of the month, even if it just looks like a sketch, and actually publish it.Over the past year one laptop with a game project and one laptop with an animation project both died on me. I also have been meaning to make a non google email account and potentially website for putting my work up.On the agenda>Fix the laptop I granaded>Degoogle>Make and release an animation by nov 1stGonna try and post here twice a week to keep myself accountable.
Sometimes sketchiness can make it even more interesting as an animation I'd like to see it once you're able to finish it or even a work in progress you can do it and on AnonganbareMostly what's left for me is getting advice on my light novel and then editing it and once I do that I'll keep looking over the light novel until I'm satisfied
I am currently re-structuring my porn drive. There's a very sharp difference between things I find spiritually fulfilling to mastrubate to/have sex with (comfort characters, old otaku culture stuff and hentai from before ~2015, flashes, miko and qipaos in a light moe way, and lolis like Sakura Shizuka) and things that are very infectious hatefucks that make me feel like a different me and make me hormonally obsessed with modern doomer debauchery (bleached, gacha lolis like the conductor twins, HMVs of the same five OVAs with the same five "fuck songs", zoomer haterape girls like Komi and Asa). To reinforce that this is a place for a different me and I should only go there when I'm genuinely infuriated and need to rape something in the truest sense of the word, I've called it "consolation prize" instead of what it used to be (vodka) which has cut back a lot on my actual want to even look in it. After all, I'm me and I want to have sex with cute miko because they're cute and Japanese girls are cute, not "YELLOW FEVERT YELLOW FEVER NEED FUCK GOOK BWC MAKE WHITE SLAVE" like it's been mostly perverted to on-and-off for the past two years. Also shifted the definition of what constitutes it, used to have beast/monster rape in my general "good" folder but because that stuff's very animalistic like my "bad" stuff and I don't get much spiritual fulfillment like I do most of my "good" folder, I've moved that over. Same deal for moving over characters like frieren out of my "good" anime folder who I only ever look at when I'm in that modern doomer mode.Sounds very simple and not like much of a project but I have a lot and since it's a collection I started when I was a teenager in a very different hormonal space, what emotional reactions/wants I used to have have changed. I used to have characters like Shinka and Relena Peacecraft in my "stuck up bitch haterape" folder, but now via classic otakudom I feel more romantic towards them. But not anywhere near as much as I do Touhou or Haruhi girls, so finding a good spot for them that gets me to see and think about them and appreciate how fucking hot they are is hard. It's very much something I have to play by ear as well, I've been following and very much enjoy Princess Reconqusita but despite the subject matter it just registers as a cute little eroge to me and doesn't make me want hardcore bleached at all. But there's also completely normal characters and games like Overwatch that I only ever want to think about when it's in that register. Will be a long process, longer since I don't have much time to dedicate to it and I've been trying to cut back on the amount of time I spent jacking off too.
>>51323492I had a project where I organized my H based on characters that make me happy and art that is high quality. I think that is a great way to combat porn addiction and form good habits, since you have to learn to live with having to nut periodically. This is a bit unsolicited but giving yourself some actual time to jack off and not trying to bust as quickly as possible is pretty nice, especially with imagination or doujinshi or some scenario.
>>51319311>man how do all of you guys write so much>I find it hard even writing a few hundred words because I get so hyper specific about exact word and sentence order among lots of other thingsThis should've been like one of the first 10 writing tips you'll hear. Just write. Get your plot on the page and get it finished. Then come back around and make it pretty. It's so much easier that way. Very few successful writers publish their first draft.
>>51324615FairsI admittedly write a lot of smut style shit for pixiv and DA so I get worked up over exact wording due to trying to convey the exact mental image / emotional response I have to the concept that I want the reader to haveNarrated in third person so it's more of a finding my proper voice thing, once I do I should be able to just write like wild
>>51324796You could try making an outline too.Avoid any specific wording, just write out the series of events, and basic idea of what the characters discuss, and then when you properly sit down to write scenarios they fit into a puzzle rather than feel like an additional piece in the void. Kinda like sketching but for writing.
I am currently assembling a new fap chair (I sit on a bar stool for normal desk things), fortiuoutious that it is loli day.
>>51325131addendum to that it was manufacutred/warehoused on 416 day so it's double sex.
Wrote 1213 words of planning for my lightnovelIt's important to find out what works for you in writing what time do you sit down to write is important because it can make a routine that sets you in the mood to write at a specific time and you must see if writing on paper works for you or Friday on the computer is gets you to work it is important also to know what your strengths are as a writer and what you need to work on because then you can see that maybe dialogue is what is lacking and so you should write a lot of dialogue until you get it right I find one of the most important things you can do in writing is set the stage and the setting and describe it by including your characters experiencing the setting as you go some people infodump and then it just scares the reader away also knowing what prospective you want to write in and that you are good at is important to know as well
>>51324961Makes sense. I tend to work backwards to develop a scene then as I write think of all sorts or dialogue or metaphors to write - then try to fit all those pieces together, which obviously, gets a bit disjointed Mostly the exposition that happens between actions can get a little confusing on what to focus on, but all the actions, dialogue, reactions, sort of descriptions or assertions that emphasize events are easy
i have a long way to go, but i'm doing rough thumbnailing and paneling for a 2hu doujinshi. i'm hoping to finish it by next spring...i'm working on a doujin game too, but it's non-2hu and pixel art is kicking my ass.
>>51325455This drawing is really cute.Looking forward to more anon.>next springAny reason that deadline in perticular? Also, feel free to post progress in there every once in a while. Would love to see more.>Doujin gameAnything you would mind sharing?
Where do you anons even intend on publishing your light novels
Still working on my Yuri visual novel, still at first draft that's now at 121,812 words.I have decided that when it comes to sprite, I will commision someone, I have saved up a lot of money and I will be hopefully getting a work soon, so whatever the cost, hopefully I will manage to have the money for it.But that's in a future, I still have to finish this. For backgrounds, I have several ideas of how to compromise, usage of real-life photos I took, maybe some stock photos, we will see, that is all in the future.
>>51321589I was thinking it might be fun to learn, and then take requests from /jp/sies.
>>51326489>I have several ideas of how to compromise, usage of real-life photos I took, tracing over or heavily filtering photographs is the tried and true method all the greats used. Depends on the tone you want to go for of course, works great for horror but even Kanon snuck in a traced background for the train station.
>>51326489I will teach you how to make these stylized screentone backgrounds from photos if you give me a credit in your game.
Not sure if I will plan anything or just write random delusions and daydreams as I go but watching / reading later parts of Mushoku Tensei really makes me want to try my part in writing a sort of Light Novel (for fun)
>>51327952Why not give yourself a goal for that?Try seeing if you can write a very short story in a week or a month. Also, I gotta watch mushoku tensei already I have put it off for half a decade
Trying to make enough money investing so I can just be a NEET full time again. Not doing so good right now.
>>51328988I guess I could try thatI know fiction is half planned half created on the fly but I feel like I’d need to plan tons of stuff out first to feel comfortable writing at all
I just began using kanjidamage to start learning kanji. I've struggled bumping my head against a wall for years off and on and never thought to just check /int/ for advice. I was aware of radicals but never thought to just... learn based on radical composition.
>>51329008Keep going anonI’m keeping it simple just investing in VOO but am nearing 100,000 in there
>>51329125I dont think I'd personally have been able to learn kanji without wanikani
i've been writing short fiction, my latest one is very otaku culture influenced, i namedrop /jp/ in it, i guess its sorta like an "Into The Mind of an Oldfag" if you will. kind of. thats a very hard kind of, but i think it still fits. Honestly I haven't thought much about how I would describe what I've been writing, but I've been putting it up on my website, if you want to take a look. I'm hosting it on fc2 like a true otakukill9(.)web(.)fc2(.)com/alice(.)html
>>51329804Yeah, it's rough trying to learn without a proper method. I knew a lot of kanji by sight - but I have ridiculously large chunks of knowledge missing. Simple kanji I should know, only knowing an onyomi but not a kun.It was hindering me so bad. I ended up with frankenstein's monster Japanese stitched together with duct tape and dreams - yet didn't know words like 言葉 or 降ります. So I need to solve that.I might give wanikani a try too and see which I like better. How'd you find it? How far did you go with it?
>>51323492i yield...i'm gonna do this now. i understand exactly the good and bad dichotomy you speak of
>>51329125>>51329864sorry to sound like this but have you been doing anki and actual reading?
>>51327580Thank you, but I think I am pretty good at using filters myself, I think I could do that myself, that sorta thing! The only issue is getting the sprites of my characters, that is all.
Has anyone here read Araki’s Manga in Theory and PracticeVery useful book for getting insight on character creation, story set up, and narrative
>>51330837Even beyond manga?
