Thoughts on 3d printed sabot? Currently have some in .452 that seat a 4.6mm 38 gn varmint round.. also have some that seat .224 diameter bullets, both 36gn and 50 gn. Experimenting with solid sabots vs cutouts to match the 50bmg slap sabot jackets, and print settings shooting for a solid base with hollow “petals”

Tested 2 clips of 30-06 in my M1 today. Speer 168 BTHP, with 47 and 47.1gn H380, respectively, with cci 200s.Its a sight lower than what my old ass speer book and the bottle have printed, but the numbers are similar to my existing loads of 165 BTHP, with 55gn hogdon superperformance and the same cci 200s according to GRT. The gun cycled fine, had a couple misfeeds and hangfires, likely due to using non-magnum primers. Strikes seem deep, and the primers pushed out a cunt. I have a lee single stage press that I originally bought to reload .300WM but now mainly use for .38/.357. I’m not a super high volume shooter but I would like to increase my output to more than 50 rounds/hour. I’ve read that turret presses are a good compromise and not super expensive, things like the Dillon 550 work well. Does anyone have any experience with something like that? I don’t think I need a progressive press, but I could see the argument of “buy once cry once” applying here

3/3My TLR-4 did break upon the first few shots. It cost me $45 used so I'm not too worried. The DPM spring fell off the barrel when I went to disassemble my M&P. I had to drift out the front roll pin that the recoil assembly was stuck on.The USP handled it like a champ.10/10 would reload again.

A universal decapping die stays in there forever and you can do that with your single stage if you have the bench room (or you can put is somewhere else and just have a decap->clean area.) While I generally prefer to do one operation at a time to a bunch of cases instead of walking a case though each stage at a time, even then having all my dies on a turret press is super nice. I got it before my single stage and I would never go to single stage only now. The ONLY downside I can think of that isn't price is super benchrest shooter nerds might say that the cam over of turret press isn't a million percent consistent, but I bet I still load more consistent rifle rounds than many fellow hobbyists. Anyway, get the turret press!

Fired more .45 Super through my M&PNo issues this time with disassembly. I had one FTF that could have been from the mag spring not keeping up with the slide. No surprise but all other rounds fired fine from each of my batches. The 250gr plated flat points with 7.6grs of Autocomp were very manageable and potentially good innawoods loads for this handgun.

It also has a very long throat which reduces pressure a lot. The bullets weren't hitting rifling until they got to 1.35"+ which makes it more tolerant of the silly hot loads. It's not something I plan on doing again but it was a good way to show what modern 45s with modern materials can actually handle without catastrophic failure. I wish the throats on my usp barrels were longer. The fat ogives of 45 colt bullets require seating them at like 1.2" most of the time which costs a lot of powder capacity. I designed a swaging die to give them the same ogive as 230gr ball and it does a pretty good job but it's a lot of work for quantities of it

well I just went through a clusterfuck of a learning experience>priming cases with a hand primer, one is being incredibly hard to press. can't pull the case out>pull the case and shell holder out of the primer. must not have paid close enough attention because the primer is upside down and I was squeezing so hard the primer was folded sticking out>"okay, I'll just use my press to remove the primer. I can just use the shell holder I have on now" (this shell holder is flat and doesn't hook into my press)>DIDN'T think to use my universal deprimer, use the fucking sizing die (I just realized this while writing it out, would have saved me a giant headache)>primer comes right out, case is stuck in die, deprimer preventing me from removing the shell holder>try to lossen the deprimer nut in the press, break my locking lug (I have a quick swap system and it was one of the lugs that tightens with a set screw)>out to the vise, get the nut loose, push the deprimer up enough to remove the shell holder, retighten the nut>back inside, go to put the right shell holder on the die. Had my first squib load the other day. 148gr wadcutter over 3gr of titegroup in 38spl. Bullet made it into the forcing cone and into the rifling about 1/2" and my gun was locked up. Pushed the bullet back into the case and checked it out. There was unburnt powder in the cavity of the bullet so I know I didn't miss charging it. I'm blaming the primers that came in this cheap teardown brass

Old surplus brass followed by PPU brass tends to give me the best lifespan without annealing. Hornady brass gave me the shortest life, had case head separation real quick.

I was thinking about getting him a barrel and recoil spring and loading up a batch of .45 Super as a birthday gift. Apparently, Lone Wolf doesn't make a barrel for that. Got a question for yall as a newfag - how good are ultrasonic cleaners for mopping up brass? Rudimentary searches show they get the job done, but the cases aren't shiny. Had a kinda bad day at the range yesterday. New Colt 1911 has a bad seal on the top of the chamber with the second brand of factory ammo. Pic related. Shot the rifle poorly because old with old glasses, also a lot of split cases (hand loads with a variety of brass.)On the plus side, I had no failures, even with the 1911 and an 8 round Pro-Mag and I shot really well with the (scoped) .22lr. It's been a long time since I had a bad range day. Thanks for reading my blog post and what do you think of the 1911 thing? I'm kind of tempted to live with it since it's the only 1911 I've ever had that doesn't stub jam. Also, it has mad erratic ejection. I shot some .357 158gr FMJs over 9.5grs of Long Shot over the weekend. They didn't group too well. The geometry of the bullet makes you seat them near SAAMI max length (max is 1.59") at 1.585" where the bearing surface meets the ogive. I can't get more bearing surface exposed without going beyond SAAMI max length. Has anyone loaded .357s with this profile of bullet before? If I can't make accurate loads with them I'll just put them on 6.5grs of Titegroup for cheap blasting ammo and never buy them again. It was $85 for 500pcs.

What happens if I reload 223 brass for 556 in a semi? I've got so much 223 brass from before I reloaded I'd like to have some use for it.
If you're reloading pistol rounds for short range plinking, is there any reason not to seat the bullet slightly deeper than normal COL and reduce the charge accordingly? As long as they feed of course. Thinking I could save pennies on powder and also have less noise and muzzle blast this way. Gonna try with my 115gr 9mms. Never see metions of seating bullets deep when looking for reload data on forums.

How strange is this: shooting 45-70 405gr lead bullets over 13gr of Unique. Oregon Trail Lasercasts hit point of aim, but Missouri Bullet Co of same weight impact ~4inches left at 50 yards. Does that seems a little extreme?

How should I nigger rig rusty shotgun shells into .357 shot shells? Tore one down and there's 27grs of flake powder and 430grs of no7 lead shot.I'm thinking just divide by ~5, five grains of powder and 80grs of shot per case.
