Shooting with friends kinda sucks when you bring the cool stuff and they just bring some NPC rifle.
>>
>>65150128
At some point, you will not know anyone who can keep up with your taste. You may be there already. The last time I went shooting with anyone who brought guns, I brought out my pristine M1917 and they brought out a Hipower carbine, that didn't cycle in the cold. Now I just focus on nogunz-new shooters.

I don’t judge. I got extremely lucky and had “that one uncle” gift me a bunch of classic wood rifles and surplus when I first started collecting. So the guns I take to the range with my friends never match. But that’s honestly the fun part. It’s fun to bring both. I like to sight in my garbage AR with electronic sights, then switch to my M1 Garand for shits and giggles. The best part about having friends with guns is sharing, not competing.

Despite all the high speed, modern, cool rifles I pile up; the Garand is still top of the fun pile. Buddies want to shoot the M1 more than they do rifle setups that cost 5x more. Old stuff is just a good time...especially when it PINGs.

is lube autist still here?
Just want to let you know the stuff survived a car being under a 20ft wide,16 ft deep (6x5 meter) farm irrigation canal's sluice gate for over 2 hours. Pulled my CCW out from under the passenger seat after the water had ripped off the roof and destroyed the glove box (holy fucking luck). After it was recovered just about every part I had slathered over, over a year ago, was still slick, water was beading on nearly every part but the most exposed.
And this was absolutely nasty farm water full of muck and silt and who knows what else.

the bottle i have is from july '22, idk what changes to the formulations have happened since then

Is the Garand illegal anywhere in the US? Seems like a dumb question, but you can never really be certain anymore. I ask because I am planning on making major changes in my life. One of which is moving somewhere new. I don't see a future for myself where I am currently at. I also don't see firearms being a significant part of my life either, but I don't want to be a complete nogunz and the Garand seems to be the more ban resistant rifle I own while still probably being useful in a self-defense/innawoods situation. Finally one other thing I am planning on changing is being online so much. That last one hurts a bit because I'll miss you guys, but it is really time I get on with life. Thanks frens.

Is a DSA 16” para with standard length gas and traditional barrel profile a good choice for a first FAL now that chimpout season is upon us again? That's being pretty optimistic, anon. I don't see surplus 7.62x51mm putting a significant dent in .308/7.62 NATO prices. Maybe 70 cents instead of the 85 cents that's being asked for current new manufacture.

I'll take the hit. The daughters should have married out waay before 40, thier eggs are now stale. The sons should have gone to school or learned a trade 20y ago. The military could have provided this either way. Self discipline and direction is instilled in youth. That's the patents failure. As far as bragging, for myself, the pendulum is trending on an upswing. I am determined to exploit this trend for the duration. Yrs ago, things were much the same and I had to compliment myself on how lucky I was. This quickly realigned to how much I deserved it, because I had earned it. Same so now. But, as my slave now whispers in my ear, "Sic transit gloria mundi...", and he is right.

M1Anon back again with a range report after the Springfield warranty shenanigans. tldr:
>rifle shooting avg 6-8MOA
>sent to springfield
>they re-crowned the barrel under warranty
>sent the rifle back with a ~1.6 claimed MOA
Got everything set up at 100y yesterday and sent 16 rounds. 2 groups of SMK 175gr (bottom left & middle) + 1 group of M80 Ball (top right).
With SMK 175 it seems to be avg ~3MOA
6MOA with M80 ball.

What do you guys think? The 3MOA groups are a definite improvement over the 6-8 MOA I was getting before, but it's still not ~1.5 MOA like SAI claimed.

I guess I need to snag some $2/round 168gr Fed GMM SMK's to have any shot at replicating what they achieved at the factory after warranty, eh? It just baffles me that this rifle is still this inaccurate.
>>
>>65239133
>replicating what they achieved at the factory
Was your rifle locked into a Ranom Res, off a table with bags or off hand? 3moa offhand is reat, and I'm sure they had it locked into a rest. You can't duplicate hat without one.
>>
>>65239205
I didn't even think about that. This was bipod + rear bag supported shooting from a table.
>>
Test
>>
>>65239242
When I apologized to my gf for my keyboard skipping the "g", she said I know that feeling too well. Saucy bitch.
>>
>>65239242
There are still a ton of factors to consider, glad the recrown helped at least a bit though.
Scoped or Irons? What would you say your skill level is with shooting? M1As don't tend to be terribly accurate, the barrels arent freefloated so how you load the bipod will influence the grouping. There could also be oprod misalignment or bad stock fit influencing the results, or improperly tightened/aligned sights, or the ammo is bad and its just a crap batch of m80 with lots of velocity variation (IE, top flyer was pissing hot).
Finally, Springfield probably just shot a 3 shot group off a rest.
Tons of shit to suss out but if you're shooting offhand with irons I would find a way to make sure everything on the gun is properly torqued to spec, retry from a rest, then interrogate the ammo. Some guns do just hate m80

Scoped with a Bassett Machine mount, Vortex Precision rings, & Nikon P-308 (vintage model) scope.
I'm sub-MOA all day long from my Bergara 6.5 on the same table at the same range. So I don't feel like technique is an issue although the lack of proper cheek weld with the M1A does bother me more than it should.
The 3MOA 175gr SMK's were handloads from a buddy. The M80 was Fed White Box Lake City brass.
I think my next attempt I'm going to try the actual 168gr 308 GMM that Springfield used. Maybe the 175's are a bit too heavy for the pencil profile 22" barrel?
Like you said, at the end of the day it's twice as accurate as it was a month ago, so I'll take it as a win. Honestly I probably just need more trigger time behind it and it sounds like I need to look into shimming the gas system or something. I haven't done any proper "accurizing steps" since it grouped terrible from the factory.
>>
>>65239600
Yeah, be careful with the 175s, apparently the port pressure on them can get pretty high and beat up the oprod.
Mine doesn't have accuracy issues, but the hardware in the stock is misaligned so it scratches the shit out of the magazine, and it's the loaded model. Take that as an example of how consistent Springfield is with these rifles

Are there any entry level AR10s left on the market besides the Springfield and the MP10? I really don't want to buy anything from Springfield and if I got the MP10 I'd have to install a rail and cost wise the Saint would probably be better and I'd be saving the hassle. I believe the 716i is discontinued and I know the SFAR has been. I guess it makes sense 308 is so expensive it's keeping the poorfags from even buying AR10s anymore. I'm fine with building but AR10s seem annoying to build and other than Centurion who even makes parts worth building let alone on the low to mid range.

I ask becausr i had an m1a with a leupold mk4 on a basset mount that i could chew a nra black out at 100yds with iron sights but wouldnt group at all with the scope. I figured it was the basset mount and an out of spec hole in the receiver keeping it from mounting up well. Might be worth your time to take someone adept at iron sight shooting with you to test.

In general roller guns can be pretty hard to put together. You have to bend the receiver into shape and do some welds. I think the majority of these are sent out to get built. Not as easy as FALs.

>>
>>65258635
>>65258930
Nah don't worry about it, they go together pretty easy, just take your time. I did mine with a 3d printed bending jig too get the rough fold, and then the rest of the folding was done with a bench vise. Make small tacks and test fit everything often. Make sure your bolt face is clean when you press the barrel in and set the bolt gap, and that the side rails get close enough to the trunion when you weld the front so the rollers don't deploy early and you should be Gucci. A c clamp, steel bar and hammer can do the rest. I usually tack welded with the bolt carrier and mag inside when possible to make sure it all would fit. Also rags inside to prevent spatter issues

Runs like a champ.

My Fal was actually more picky, but it does have worse mags to begin with anyways.
