Pic related was like $200 4 or 5 years back. Missing the magazine. Bought a magazine for $120 from a Polish (I think) online store and crossed my fingers and hoped it would arrive, and it actually did. Nice shooting rifle. More accurate than my K31 and I think it’s more pleasant to shoot.

I finally had time to test the Canadian 303 British ammo that gunmagwarehouse is selling. I thought it was the same stuff Century has right now, but this stuff is Mk 7z ammo, so it has smokeless powder in it instead of spaghetti.

I bought 2 boxes. The ammo in both boxes didn’t have any corrosion, all the ammo looked good. I tested 20 rounds from each box and all 40 rounds went off without a hitch. It seems about as accurate as I could shoot it. None of the cases had split necks so I can get at least 1 reload out of them. I treated this as corrosive so I cleaned my rifles after my range trip. If it was like 50 cents per round I’d probably buy quite a bit of it, but since it’s around 75 cpr with shipping, I’ll probably buy a few boxes just to have it.

I personally think that exiting the far side and killing the tree behind your animal isn't helping anything. Side note: Some US-made 9.3x62 ammo is based on necked-up .30-06 cases and have an undersized rim, that can allegedly cause extraction issues, but It's not something I've personally encountered.
If you're using a kar98-based rifle with a fucknormous Mauser claw extractor, you're highly unlikely to encounter this issue.

Looks like a nice 20th series. Kokura installed their sling swivels upside down for most of the 20th series. Very distinctive. Probably a little high on the price, but it's probably okay with at least the muzzle over, which you should totally not store locked on the muzzle as the plastic will deform under pressure.

I've got like 60 type 99s and I can tell you I've never seen one that didn't have at least a very good bore. Most are mint as no Type 99s would have had long service lives.

When I was told they're using chrome lined barrels I was surprised, I didn't think they would be using it their barrels.Thanks for the heads up on the muzzle cover, already took it off. I rolled the dice on a Portuguese contract K98/M937B from Centerfire Systems a year or so ago. It was one of their bulk listings with bayonet rather than the individually listed rifles. I was expecting it to be in relatively rough but functional shape with a good amount of finish loss but it wound up being in pretty shape, and a really good shooter with a good bore too. Came with an original sling and front sight hood, only thing non matching was the stock, butt plate, and trigger guard screws.

I rolled on an all matching G98 (I think like one screw isnt matching but I dont remember) for 600 bucks earlier this year cause it was a duffle cut and no one wanted it. I rolled because I have PTSD from fixing the duffle cut on my Type 99. Super easy fix. A dowel and some tightbond and we were all set. Just need to get a sawback bayonet

I’ve felt that same feeling when you win an auction and it’s for far less than you thought it would go for. Pic related is a legit Winchester Model 12 riot gun. Appears to have been refurbished post war. I studied the auction photos endlessly, researched a ton of info regarding Winchester 12 riot and trench gun markings, and bid somewhat cautiously. Won it for a price that even if it was a fake, I’d be mildly annoyed I overpaid a little for a good looking fake.

Not an auction, but I bought picrel, a Polish Wz-29, for $200 at a flea market last fall. "The bore on it is just horrid, good luck." Old guy selling it lost his wire cutters, so I had to wait until we got back to my buddy's house to cut off the zip ties. It was just caked with layers of dust and cob-webs, that's it. Cleaned up beautifully and shoots quite well with heavier-grain 8mm.

The nicer one is a 1939 S/42K with two non-matching WW1 mags and a 1939 holster, all with Heer/Waffenamt marks. The beat-up one is an early 1920's DWM issued to the Weimar-era Berlin police, later had its unit markings stamped out and replaced with Third Reich Berlin police stamp. One mag, had to find the holster later. The safety is loose as shit, guess I need to find a replacement. Neither pistol is matching, and I paid under $1200 for each separately; I can't complain given the reality of Luger autist pricing. These are my only two for now.

Hello /msg/ I come to you with a tale of woe and hope for help from one of the many freakishly knowledgeable autists that hang around here.

I acquired this 60s Yugo M57 for $150 during covid, it took me almost a year to find ammo for it. When I finally shot it it went about 4 bangs and then locked up. Like really locked up, like there's now rust on the back of the slide from where I had to bang it on a piece of farm equipment to get it to eject the case.

I naturally assumed it was an extractor issue, ordered one, a pin, and a spring. Replaced them and the spring that came out of it was no longer a spring, it provided absolutely zero bounce. So I assumed that would fix the problem. Took it to the indoor range yesterday and one bang, no ejection, and the exact same lockup. That is an empty case in there luckily, I was able to get it out by putting a cleaning rod down the barrel and mortaring it on the concrete.

Has anyone ever run into this issue? Any ideas what it could be? Should I just give it to the next gun buyback I find? I tried to remove the takedown pin while it was locked and it was hard stuck in place.

Have you field stripped it and noticed any parts/spots that are gouged or bent? If you had to bang that hard on it to free it up twice and the slide was caught on something internal, it probably noticeably wore on whatever it was catching on. How tight is the slide to frame fitment? Does a fresh cartridge drop freely into the chamber when you remove the barrel? Is the chamber itself pitted or mostly smooth?

As to your other questions yes a fresh cartridge drops in, the FTE case does not. Slide to frame is relatively smooth, a good bit of resistance until the barrel drops then not much. Chamber had a lot of brassy spots but no obvious pitting.

You mean until it drops out of the locking recesses in the slide? I only have a Type 54 Tokarev to use as reference here, but on mine as long as the hammer is cocked, the slide comes back very easily by hand. There is little resistance from the barrel unlocking and it's overall extremely smooth to cycle. Are there any burrs or metal peening on the barrel or slide locking surfaces? When you have the recoil spring and bushing removed, does the barrel drop easily into the locking recesses inside the slide or does it need extra force?

Yea, once it drops down out of the slide recesses it's very smooth, but the unlocking is a little sticky. Like if I put some real force behind it it smoothes out but if I go slow it's super notchy for the first half inch of travel or so.

However with just the barrel and slide it drops in very easily, no resistance, I can't feel any burrs or machining defects in the area. Either on the slide or barrel.

Kinda stumped on what the issue could be at this point now anon, sorry. It kinda sounds like something is out of spec, potentially in the frame where that barrel link sits. But your pistol looks like it's all matching and if it's from the 60's I doubt it would have stuck around that long with that issue, without being scrapped or cannibalized for parts. Last thought I have is if your barrel link swings freely or not when the barrel is free of the rest of the pistol. If it's really tight in its spot that might be the source of your problems.

I have been fiddling with it and noticed that if I remove the hammer assembly thingy it moves a lot smoother. Like a lot. And the tiny section of slide rail is super worn down, on this side, the same section on the other side is completely black still. I think I might take a file to this bit and lower it down more.

If it's running that much smoother and one side of the rail on it is that heavily worn compared to another, that might be your culprit, especially since the numbering on it doesn't match the others on your frame/slide, so it's a replacement part. Might wanna drop it in the frame for a sec and compare how that specific little rail looks/aligns with the frame's rails, could give you an idea of what side of it needs filing, but also might not. You prob don't need reminding, but go slow at it and keep checking for fitment every so often as you file

When you're pulling the slide back, just as the back of the ejection port is clearing the barrel can you see that bar of the hammer group tilting upwards? The bar is the part marked 1324 in my last pic. I'm wondering if that's just regular communist made gun slop or if mine really fits that poorly.

In my Type 54 Tok, I can't see any upward tilt on that bar, or any really noticeable play for that matter while pulling the slide back at any point. You might benefit from buying a different M57 hammer assembly and seeing how well it works depending on just how badly your current assembly fits aside from that rail section. "Refurbished" M1917 Enfield from RTI. Overall actually a fairly solid rifle, but my God was the bore fucked. It was badly pitted which on its own sucks but pitted bores can shoot well still, especially when the rifling is still very visible. Problem was (I think) the barrel was bored oversized by Remington back in 1918. My muzzle wear gauge could go halfway down the barrel before it stopped. Result was 2 foot wide groups at 15 yards and keyholing. Resulted in an almost year long pain in the ass to put a new Criterion barrel on it and it shoots fine now, just required spending about as much as the rifle itself cost when I bought it

Almost all Type 99s are occupation bringbacks lol. The stock has probably been sanded and refinished though. It's an early 24th series and the stock should be rougher than it is. These are all 24th series rifles >>65185390 and they have nice "chatter" on the wrist. Unfortunately, later rifles like that are commonly sanded. I guess everyone in the 50s and 60s hated the rougher cut stocks.

I guess it could also have been restocked.

Have a reweld jig done. Making inlets to put in copper plates for where need to weld for easier weld job for noobs, specifically me. Just have stuff tack welded in place.

Bolt converted to semi. Lower trigger pack in pieces everywhere. Need to order a rpk ar15 hammer from weapons guild this week to use with the ar15 fcg. It's not a standard hammer.

Need to finish removing slag and extra material from receiver and verify bolt slides through it freely and everything fits post weld. Once done will drop the reweld jig on odysee @luvs2spwge. But that’s a nice SKS for the current going price. The Russians are nice, I like Chinese ones because of the chrome lined barrels. Also the Chinese made SKS rifles longer than anyone, so they got bretty gud at it. Honestly body weight is probably best. Military press is on of my favorite lifts, it’ll do wonders for your upper body.

Tuck it to your shoulder tight. It will bruise you. My mausers are my favorite rifle to shoot because you kinda get pissed off at it. It makes every round special, you send it down range with hate and grit your teeth, very fun and analogue experience you won’t get in modern rifles.

Oh yeah, I've owned a couple of Chinese SKS(es?) in the past. Always wanted a Russian just to round out my collection. I knew the Chinese worked with theirs the longest and made the best rifles, and yeah that holds true they do have a much nicer fit and finish. Though It's clear this SKS was shoddily rearsenaled back when they were selling them off in the 90s.

Is it true that 1911s will explode if you slingshot the slide? I had a boomer claim that if you use the slide release on an empty chamber or slingshot it any time (either empty chamber or with a live round), the sear spring will shatter.

Yes but no. Pretty much gun sellers didnt want cheetofingered broke fucks playing with 2 or 3k 1911s with 1.5 lb triggers. Cause 100 people testing the trigger and not buying the gun will turn that finely tuned 1.5 glass break to 5lb rough sandpaper that the actual person with money wont want to buy.

Rpk extended AR15 hammers ordered. Got extra hammer just in case cheaper rpk kits come in again.

3d printed welding jig is done. 3d printed side charging handle cut jig done too. Tested on second kit. Everything lined up much easier with proper jig. Will drop files on odysee tonight when near a computer.

Spanish trash pistol has been delivered. This thing is actually really nice, my first piece of modernish surp. Overall really well built and heavy. This is a "good" which is the lowest condition i've seen, just has a lot of holster wear. Trigger is very strange, feels like a good trigger but with a lot of friction, if that makes sense.

If you're in PA, the WWII weekend at MAAM is on the fifth. Not that you'd want to set up just to sell that but there may be some interest as a ton of pre and post WWII surplus sells there. Selling a full crate may be tough especially if you want to find someone who will keep it together instead of selling individual pieces out of it though.

Thanks anons. I'm torn between the Carcano and the SMLE No5 jungle carbine. The Carcano has an integrated bayonet and is 1.25lbs lighter. Which matters because I take my funs for long walks in the desert. However, the SMLE has a rear peep sight which I prefer, as well as a detachable box magazine. I also already have a stockpile of .303 for my no4 mk2, so it makes more practical sense. Which one do you guys reckon is more accurate?

I found this on marketplace.

The fact it runs and drives saves you all the time and at that price is a bargin. Granted having to fabricate and weld new steel plates wherever there is plywood would be a bitch and expensive. But $10k for the vehicle then stick $20-25k in restoration and I could flip it for an easy $65-75k to a collector.

But an M3 scout car for bumming around and doing ice cream runs sounds like fun.

Best part is I can store it long term at a veterans museum in Oshkosh that would probably cream there pants seeing this bad boy.

8mm conversions and 7.35 carcanos are slightly harder to find than the abundant 6.5 ones. 7.35 is pretty available online though. Generally, Carcanos arent known for their accuracy outside of a specific street in Dallas Texas so any of those calibers are going to give you eh results. So go with whats more available to you if thats what matters more

I took my doggo, the No4, and my web gear for an autismo trail run this morning. Honestly the weight wasn't bad at all. I think the extra 1.5lbs is worth the significantly increased accuracy, reliability, and reloading mechanics over the Carcano cavalry carbine. If I still want a carbine later, I'll likely save up for an M1.
