>order new tikka t3x hunter
>give it a clean today because I'm firing it for the first time this weekend
>use remmington brite bore for my solvent
>cannister has cracks in the nozzle cause my dad dropped it
>fucking shit gets everywhere
>gets all over my hands
>get solvent on my brand new stock and on the surface of my metal components/barrel
>just wipe it off with paper towel
>didn't have a bore guide either, might have got some solvent into receiver

Wtf. Did I already ruin my brand new rifle?
>>
Why on earth would it eat through the metal? Your gun is fine. Buy your own cleaning supplies lol

It can strip protective finishing and make it susceptible to rusting/weathering

then put some oil on it

Get that out of your mind. Just use regular gun cleaning shit and you'll be fine

>bore guide
The barrel routinely has a piece of metal moving through it at 3,000 fps, but yeah better use muh bore guide.

I'm not one of those minimalist guys, but this is unironically all you need (besides lube and solvent). Guns don't actually need to be as pampered as a lot make them out to be.

Meant to show a Hoppes Bore Snake instead of the Otis version, although I like the Otis as well, just not quite as much. You can also wash them with soap and water between uses if you're concerned with using a "dirty" tool

Bore guides are presumably for cleaning rods sometimes being steel, which is much harder than copper jacketed lead.
I know that there are some old slav surplus rifles which are known to often be counterbored because careless conscripts marred up the bore around the muzzle end.

Not saying that they're vital or anything, but that they exist for a reason.

Usually not, no. A lot of people like boresnakes, I think they're good.

put in old sock and tie off the holed toe and top with rubber band and throw in washing machine with your other "cleaning rags" and detergent.

Then wash something like the bathroom and kitch floor mats and more detergent to get any smells out of the washer.

I'm a fussy old man and insist on things like that be cleaned totally separately. Dawn soap and a garden hose will do

Did the stock surface go blotchy matte where you spilled the solvent? Don't worry it can do that with just plain water. Fix it by applying some stock wax to the wood. I don't know what kind of eco green shit wax is displaced by water, but italians found it (this model of stock comes from an italian supplier). The wood isn't stained so there's no color to leech out, so it's pretty easy to maintain otherwise. The metal does not care about your solvents. Only problem with spilling solvents and crap in the locking lug recess is if you happen to have any blow by from firing it will fling it straight in your eyeball. Bolt shroud is there to catch most of it in that scenario but nothing is perfect. t. a gunsmith

Yes. That reason is to separate money from fools.
