I've noticed these different boutique gun lube companies popping up (picrel: gunsauce / Sauce Weapon Lubricants). They seem to have premium branding and their actual lube products are pretty expensive... the other half of what they sell seems to be all branded merch.

What's the deal? Does their stuff really command such a premium? How does it compare to just using some cheap CLP or other simpler gun lube like Slip2000?
>>
Engine oil.
Simple as that.
>>
>>65176630
That little bottle of Lucas gun oil at the auto parts store for $5, I own two of them and I put that shit on everything.
>>
Money laundering.
>>
>>65176630
its just a generic oil with surfactants, colorants, and maybe a few additives that might(?) do something
you're quite literally as well off using odorless baby oil (i.e., mineral oil)

if you're doing a carry / home defense gun though, actually use a legit proven brand, just in case
better to have something that is known for always working every time, than some rando pakistani mystery oil
>>
Ballistol goes in everything.
Fuck bougie boutique shit.
>>
>>65176630
For guns, it doesnt really matter a whole lot. It's not like we're picking out an oil for an engine.
They all lubricate, the biggest difference is capillary and anti corrosion properties.
Just use whatever you have.

Because I work in aviation, I have access to free products that are "expired" for aircraft use. LP2, Aeroshell 33, and Corrosion X are generally my go-to. As long as my stuff doesn't corrode, I'm happy.
>>
>>65176630
i always use hoppes but my lgs stopped selling it so i'm going to try that lucas gun oil thing whenever i run out.
>>
>>65176630
it's literally just brandslop for gun guys. pretty much exactly the same thing that 'liquid death' does for fucking water. that's why you're "so happening to conveniently notice" that there's a few guntubers that have picked up and shout out this product that is totally not another sponsor.
>>65176648
>>65176762
also this. i use lucas gun oil because i'd much rather trust that with their pedigree in other lubricating/oil products and now being a reputable name in the competitive automotive world.. yaknow, somewhere where they might have had to deal with issues regarding extreme temperatures, carbon accumulation, and metal on metal components wearing over thousands and thousands of repetitions.
>>
>>65176751
I've read that Aeroshell 33 is generally recommended in rifles to avoid friction welding; ex. buffer tube threading

Synthetic motor oil and ATF mix. Synthetic motor oil and red grease mix for thicker stuff that won't run as easy.

For cleaning, Ed's red with white gas subbed for kerosene, because I don't keep kerosene in my shed. Don't bother using the lanolin in it either.

If you want to find out whatever is in your fancy expensive garbage just look up the SDS materials data sheet, and you can generally mimic it yourself
>>
>>65176639
This mixed with a little red n tacky to make it stick where you want it

I also use a mineral oil and vaseline mix for any tools. Dirt cheap and non-toxic.

>>65176630
All you need is (1) a light synthetic oil, (2) a grease and (3) a light spray lube for when you can't be fucked to disassemble shit to lube it properly. CLP is a marketing meme; companies started using it when they put solvents into their oil to make them flow better and any of them with enough grunt to meaningfully clean anything are going to be shitting where they eat.

I personally use the lucas extreme duty for oil, STOS for grease (fuck that stuff is great) and G96 for a spray. If you're going to be shooting in ridiculously cold weather for whatever reason or if you're going to be slathering oil on your guns for storage, break free makes really good products.

Mineral oil doesn't have enough for sobriety; you something yellow that has sulfur in it. Don't use motor oil, it has too many additives, and some of them can affect gun parts. A basic 3-in-1 or CLP oil is perfect.

Some markets are just like that.
You'd better hope it's just rebranded motor oil in there, because if they tried to get fancy with it, the odds are about even on whether it works better or worse than literal mayonnaise.

He didn't invent it. That's just the bootleg version of some other hype oil I think is off the market now. Came with a whole blogpost (which I can no longer find) explaining why it was better and the tl;dr is that higher viscosity means better wear resistance.

It works but so does pretty much anything. It's cheap but so is straight motor oil.

It dries/burns off kind of quickly, that’s all.

Mil-spec synthetic CLPs are formulated to work in a fairly broad temperature range, they don’t generally gum up, and it seems they also do a pretty good job of reducing friction and resistance (but firearms are not especially picky about this anyways). If you are okay with reapplying them often then they’re solid for most things. If I had to recommend a one-and-done solution for a lazy/casual gun owner it would be a big spray bottle of Break Free CLP, it’s easy to apply without weird drawbacks and will last long enough for the few hundred rounds they’re likely to fire at a maximum in a single range session.
>>
>>65181665

Are you the German anon that developed the oil? I've heard good things about it
>>
>>65182164
Yeah, i upgraded the formulation back in 2022 and made it more stick and alot mire rust inhibiting. Never had any complain fro problems or rust out of 1000+ units sold, thats good because it overkill. There is another upgrade in the room to decrease friction and wear firther but idk when i can buy those chamicals (many Ks for a barrel)

I think when one is clueless about something they're pretty easy to trick or take advantage of.
Like when you see a desk jockey try being outdoorsy or look under the hood of a car, they don't know what they're fucking doing or looking at, that sort of guy. >Basedification of the gun market due to reddit homosexuals.

>>
>>65177398
It's not good, it's shitty. I have a ton I mixed up and stopped using pretty shortly after. Aerosolises into an obnoxious and unpleasant bunch of shit, doesn't lubricate notably well, is cheap. That's literally all. If you need a vat of lube and can't afford one, it's worth considering. Otherwise just get something built for purpose. I moved to ALG go juice, then slip2000, then clenzoil, then anon's cum lube. Clenzoil was great, cum lube is best. Which is lucky because my wife accidentally ordered me three bottles of it to try for christmas instead of just one

A dedicated bore cleaner, a dedicated all purpose/carbon cleaner, and a dedicated lube. Yes it's more work, but CLPs just don't do as well in each area as a product made specifically for that application
