why didnt air supremacy in desert storm prevent large tank battles from even happening like drones prevent massed formation of tanks in ukraine?

Weather restricted flight operations. You can't engage with IR guided weapons through smoke or clouds, and even today the radar guided A2G weapons that can do it are pretty rare. This is why you had MQ-9s and F-18s flying so low over Iran in the recent fighting, they were forced low due to cloud cover.

Mines and a lack of air cover did that. Drones picked out the stragglers, but they didn't hault the assaults until much later when there wasn't much to stop
