>The British Army wants to replace the L85
What rifle should they pick?

>What rifle should they pick?
L85A1. It's what they deserve.
>>
Said it before and will say it again, OD green SCARs. Both visual and mechanical continuity with the gun it replaces. They will probably adopt an AR or the Italian MCX though.

Didn't they already adopt some AR?

Only for a single unit, this was not well communicated.
>>
>>65177491
Yeah, a Knights rifle for limited use by a few specific units.
Regular grunts are still humping L85A2s, and the bongs want to replace those.
Current contenders are all AR platform rifles, amusingly the current lineup of contenders include both Beretta ARs and rifles made by Sako of Finland, which is a subsidiary of Beretta.

>hire germans to fix your rifle
>they fix it and its good now
>decide to get an entirely new rifle anyway
???
>>

>>they fix it and its good now
Anon, that was like 30 years ago.
>>
>>65177508
The SA-80 had a projected service life of like 15-20 years. These pieces of shit are pushing 45 years of service at this point.
Despite the Germans overhauling and fixing these rifles, they're vastly overdue for replacement.
>>
>>65177508
more like good enough. still a really heavy bitch with crappy manual of arms
>>65177519
also this. they have to replace them anyway so instead of ordering more, they're looking at better options
>>
Has to be a bullpup. Keep them alive. I nominate the RDB. Make it more rugged, improve the controls a bit, plus integral flip up sights like the Hellion. Literally perfect.
>>
HK416 like seemingly every other Western military.

AR15, but without short-stroke piston.

>>65177508
H&K didn't make the SA80 good, they took it from a complete turd as the L85A1, to a reliably functional and durable rifle as the L85A2. And a pretty accurate one, also.
But anyway, it's almost as fucking heavy as the old L1A1 7.62mm (FAL) that it was supposed to be the lighter replacement for, which has always been a complaint, and there's various little things which people have been annoyed with about the SA80 for ages.

They are unlikely to be scrapping the things (any time soon, anyway), considering the monstrous amount of money that went into the development program back in the day, so they're going to be making sure they get the most value they can out of them, hence why the L85A3 pattern exists, to try to improve the existing inventory of L85A2s at least a bit, because having a reserve of functional rifles is a good idea.

But also, they're old now, as said. Guns will wear out with enough use.
Look at the M9 pistol or M249 SAW in U.S service, actually good guns when new, but often miserable after 30 years of grunts putting them through the ringer. Kind of applies to the M60 also, which is why it was fairly well liked at first, then came to be disliked later (because the M60 of that era was especially not properly built to last).

Every part on the AR has their own companies and proprietary technologies so that military procurement is usually goes without. But what if some arfcom/arg/ boys did have free reign to build a service rifle for military adoption? What would that look like in 2026? What has improved over the M4s of yesteryear?
>>
>>65177803
Probably not that different from the URGI or KS1 desu. 13-16" barrel, free float full length mlok handguard, LPVO, suppressor ready. Probably ambi controls, but not guaranteed. You might see monolithic since that patent has expired, but the bongs gave monolithic ARs a chance long before anybody else and have since ditched them for regular ARs, so maybe not even that.
>>
Don't bother buying any foreign shit
Have a small factory pump out any generic carrier with no stock or handles for use on automated defense drones, and tell IP retards to fuck off.

Infantry is dead, rifles will only be used to kill civilians and to make you feel safer as a backup for when you can't afford an "AI" (any generic targetting software) system that can shoot better than you ever could at incoming drones, get over it already.

416 is the sensible choice, AUG/ AuSteyr wouldn't be too out of left field, VHS-2 would be incredibly funny, and the M7 would be immensely retarded but there's a non-zero chance they're gonna adopt it as Europe is gonna have 6.8 sigger furry shoved down its throat

I'm still salty those fags cucked and didn't bring them to the US. Anyways, the UK should adopt a Kalashnikov patterned gun since most of their population has already trained on them.

I get you're making a muslim joke, but British muslims don't join the military (despite what the recruitment ads claim) at one point there were more British muslims in the Taliban than the Army, the same happened again when ISIS was around.

They should axe the whole contest and go full Euro-military with the G95.
>>
>>65177475
This is it. Bullpup training remains relevant and they get a more ergonomic, modular, and generally more effective rifle. Plus, the F90 was devised by Australians so they can keep it in the Commonwealth.

Some sort of AR-15 pattern rifle, like everyone else
