Are top tier military snipers really good at math or are they just really competent operators of their equipment? I understand that the best long range sniper teams essentially use mobile weather stations and ballistics programs for their solutions.
They are taught the necessary math and need to know it well, but that doesnt make them generally proficient at math.
>>65178409New german service rifle looking mighty fine.
>>65178409it's middle school math
>>65178409It's more about repeatability than mathMath will get you close, but repeatedly firing your gun at known distances with the same high quality ammo will allow you to chart how the bullet from your ammo reacts out of your gun and what changes you need to make on your scope to achieve a hit at a given range
>>65178409ELR, and really all performance shooting, is about reducing variables. If you can count and read, it's all experience from there.
Lol they have look up tables and calculators they would probably all fail a 9th grade math test if they had to take it on the fly
>>65178409What is even the point of snipers in organised militaries anymore? A machinegun with an optic can engage targets further than a sniper, you might not hit on the first shot, but so what. A team with a .338 norma mag beltfed can do everything a sniper team can do, and be vastly more useful in other situations, and they can carry fpv drones for when the situation calls for them
>>65178905All Machineguns get fpv droned one shot across the map 3 seconds into battles in Ukraine.Snipers do better as they’re not as obvious to locate.
>>65178409I would estimate they take shooting fundamentals to the heart the strongest. If I know my point of aim and pint of impact within / at 100 yards then I can typically walk my rounds onto the target and precisely repeatedly hit my target with every following shot after that. I've been fucked over by my shooting coach at the 100 yard line and fixed it myself plenty of times. Point of aim, point of impact, and understanding target value beats math but uses patterns like math just the same visually instead of technically.
>>65178409the math is harder than it seemshttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3OIkqlQaUqI
>>65178409basic trigonometry, calculations and divisions are needed.
>>65178409I know this was AI but I wondered if the company was real and they are. I wish I had a kid so I could buy them nice wooden toys instead of the all the plastic slop they shit out now (excluding green plastic army men)
>>65178894most of the adult population would fail a 9th grade math test. most people never need to think about algebra or trigonometry ever again after graduating
>>65180047it is cool, it would be cooler if they weren't trying to charge around $700 for that collection of wood blocks
