>>65181283for a combat knife how sharp do yall keep your blade? how often do you resharpen said blade?
>>65181389>how sharpAs sharp as possible>how often do you resharpen said blade? Not often since it stays sharp.
>>65181283Puukkos are so cool bros. I love them
>>65181389I literally never use mine so I never sharpen it, I sharpen my camping knife every month or so for example
>>65181424>>65181488i carry a glock brand glock knife and got it arm shaving sharp, touch it up one a week with leather. just wonder if that was too little or too much
>>65181502There is absolutely no reason to sharpen your knife weekly especially if you aren't actively using itI get the compulsive desire to do so but all you're going to do is wear it down
>>65181506i use it quite often at work. by the end of the week it isn't quite arm shaving sharp. boxes, ropes, cordage, plastic strapping whole bunch of random warehousey kind of stuff. i'll touch it up once a month instead maybe. i bought it on a whim to go with my glock brand glock i carry but i do use it quite often.
>>65181523Don't piss me off
>>65181523I would get a little utility knife instead of using a combat knife for those things. It's cool you can apparently carry that around. I could legally, but it would be too out of place for my area.
>>65181539i just like to have fun and you can't stop me>>65181545it doubles as a conversation starter. 90% of the old guys that come in know it isn't a kbar but think i'm cool, ive had a few that recognized it as a glock knife. almost everyone else think it's a kbar. super rural, farmers n shit. i used to carry a Puma Hunter's Pal that made me quite the cool guy but the sheath really fell apart and it started to rattle quite a bit.
>>65181439I got my first birch bark handle a bit ago and it surprised me. Kind of like a more dense cork fishing rod grip.
>>65181283Well, I didn't really get my question answered last thread because of the spergout over fucking boxcutter faggotry>are bear ops knives good?
I work at a grocery store, stocking product and breaking down pallets. All that autism about the boxcutter knives was funny to read since its clear nobody actually uses a knife on either side of the argument.I'd use a fancy knife at work but the main problem with an opening packages job isnt sharpness, its tape gunk and chipping the tip. Having to wipe down your blade with goo gone every day would be annoying and then constantly fixing your chipped tip would grind down a good knife. For one of these, once you notice you're not cutting well you toss it for a new blade. The design of the disposable blade holder automatically limits how much of the actual blade you can use. You cant force the blade past the protrusion and still cut right, so you dont have to worry about "damaging product" lmao. (if i ever cut a box and slice a few hot dogs or whatever i just file it as normal damages)It preserves the tip in the back so you can still flip it once you chip off the tip and keep poking into boxes, and the long bladed part is for sliding it under straps or twine.I had one of those chinese OTF with a box cutter blade holder and it also worked great until it broke. I estimate i have to deploy and put away the knife like 200ish times a day so even a fancy ass microtech wont last long.
>>65181562>think I'm cool.Lmaaaao trust me bro, no one is thinking that. Especially if they're boomers.
>>65182092>pink donut sprinklesNice. Finishes like that work well to keep the normgroids calm.
Thoughts on Bökers new Extension Knife?
>>65182092If people can’t figure out how to use their finger to limit penetration, they should be fired.I have been considering a “rescue hook” type cutter for a specific task at work, where using any knife is tedious.
>>65182323Modern version of the Benchmade LFK.
Reminder: opening a knife ONLY one way will result in the blade eventually getting wobbly. You need to alternate between the finger and thumb flick.

German Expedition Knife is back, this time from Puma. Should be a good general field knife.
>>65182664Loctite doesn't do anything to the wear and tear on the bearings.

Explain something for me as I read through the CA laws since I liver here. Anything over 2 inches is illegal to carry auto-wise. If I were to nut up and go on a stabbing spree wouldn't I be using something like a field/hunting knife? The only reason I would want an OTF auto would be to defend myself, and the automatic deployment would only help me defend my life. So why is that shit illegal?
>>651837751. Laws aren't there to make you (or the general public) safer. This is doubly so for CA laws.2. Fixed blade knifes such as field knives and hunting knives are illegal to conceal in California, as they deem them "dirks" or "daggers." So, you can conceal a 4 inch Spyderco Military fine, but if you conceal a 1 inch neck knife, you're fucked. Funny, huh?
>>65183775Laws aren't meant to make sense. They are meant to prosecute white people.
>>65183781>>65183782Why does this law even exist? Some people say because of the Punisher show or something.
>>65183781>2. Fixed blade knifes such as field knives and hunting knives are illegal to conceal in California, as they deem them "dirks" or "daggers." So, you can conceal a 4 inch Spyderco Military fine, but if you conceal a 1 inch neck knife, you're fucked. Funny, huh?even funnier is if its open carried you can carry whatever length blade you want, though cops will be called on you as you walk around with your fedora and katana ca but the cops cant do shit.

>>65184122its a fucking strip of scrap leather that has green colored sand rubbed on it. If you paid ANYTHING for it then you did something wrong. The point is to minimize your financial loss by first buying the cheapest one you can find and then later making your own.
>>65184489318 eurobucks. No idea whether that's justified.
>>65182679Daily Customs (Boker AK1 designer) has a medium sized blade with scale options like that.
Damn are Benchmade supposed to be kinda rough when its new? My Spyderco glides and is easy to open and close one hand but the Benchmade keeps getting stuck. I want to say this is some sort of knockoff but I literally bought it from their website...
>>65185914You are paying for the butterfly stamp and nothing else.
>>65186017The box is kinda nice though, unlike the Spyderco box.
This mf is so smooth>>65185914What model is it?
>>65186032Basic Bugout. I just didn't expect to be this rough out of the box.
>>65186036Maybe it has some gunk in the pivot. I would say maybe take it apart to clean it, but it's tricky with those omega spring knives.
>>65186045I'll be taking it apart tomorrow to change the scale. It's also getting better the more I open and close it.
>>65185914Should have bought the Hogue Deka. Now you got buttfucked by left coast liberals, transmission of their faggotry is 100%.
>>65186065Sure maybe next time, Benchmade has always been something I wanted to own. I guess I just got my hopes up, but after playing around with it for a while I don't need/want another Benchmade. I do want a few more Spydercos like the 15V and REX121 Sprint Runs as well as a Smock. I'll probably work my way down to a Hogue, but right now I kinda want a ZT.
>>65186099Most Hogue designs are ugly, but their more recent ones are more often good. The Mysto in titanium or ritchlite, and the Counterstrike otf auto are what I would point out.
>>65186116I'm done with knives for 2026, unless there are some good Spyderco deals or Sprint Runs. Otherwise I'll wait for what comes out during SS27.
>>65181439based>>65181911extra based
>>65185914dribble some lube into the pivot and onto the crossbar. eventually disassemble and clean. i think bm either uses shitty lube or not enough lube.
>>65186208I put some Lucas onto where the blade rides along the Axis lock. It's smoother but still needs a hard flick to drop. I ordered some KPL which should arrive by tomorrow along with the Flytanium scales. I'll probably take some Flitz to the bearings.
>>65186185Two of those are clearly leukus, not puukkos
>>65186215ime its usually where the lockbar slides against the liners. just oil it and break it in. theres no bearings just washers, dont polish them. just clean the old oil off and re oil on both faces. like i said i think benchmade uses some shit tier oil and not enough of it. maybe it dries out over time. kpl or lucas probably solves the issue and then the rest is just a little physical wear in
>>65186293I'll probably buff the washers just a little bit simply because I love doing it. It's getting smoother after playing around with it all day.
>>65181283Should I get the Cold Steel Leatherneck SF? $70 new on eBay
Is going to a local smith / maker worth it for common knives ie chef knife, cleaver etc?
>>65186365Are you a sushi chef with 10 years of experience? Maybe. Are you a chef at your local TGI Fridays? No...
>>65186185I need to get a Rokka, the sheath is so unique.
>>65186358whos the vendor? theres a lot of chink counterfeit coldsteel on ebay. actually most name brand knives are chinkshit counterfeits on ebay
>>65186365just buy victorinox or dexter for kitchen stuff. spend the savings on good sharpening equipment.
Spartan Blades sharpness standards:"If an angry, roided-up Green Beret stabs somebody with it, will it do some damage? Yes? Ok, send it."Spyderco* sharpness standards:"If the owner waivers in his faithfulness in the recesses of his heart toward The Almighty on a full moon in action or deed in his duty of continually seeking Wisdom, will it send him to the ER? Yes? Ok, send it."*This also applies to KA-BAR.
>>65184169Actually I think I might return it and get a PM2 in Magnacut since it's only 70 leafbucks more right now
>>65186990Compression locks have their drawbacks as well. I bought one of them 3d printed buttons that you superglue on the lock which made in a ton better.
>>65181283Op pic is nice. W2c?
This BM is really growing on me, it feels like a G43 when carried compared to my P01. And its not scratching the shit out of my phone like the PM2.
>>65187566glass reinforced nylon gang
>>65188039About to swap that shit to G10.
>>65187566overhated knife. nice thin grind, easy to carry, not much to say its just a great edc.
>>65188139Loving it so far while at work, and it cuts the same as Magnacut. Silly me paying an extra $70 for a Magnacut when I had a fucking 8Crv forever and it never rusted.
>>65188048It won't feel like a glok then. Will be much stiffer though, which is nice.
>>65186290leuku is just puukko but big
>>65181523Don't stress over it Anon. You can replace it once it gets worn down, and stropping with leather would take decades to cause noticeable wear.
>>65187566>This BMBM is bowel movement? Fitting, looks like shit.
>>65181506>you're going to do is wear it down>you'll strop your knife into an icepick!Putz.
>>65188438no need to hate on memenacut. s30v is just the 2000s version of magnacut anyway. a local high water mark for well rounded and very stainless knife steel. on a ~3" folding knife s30v is fantastic, youll never notice the lack of toughness s30v has under magnacut. ive stated a number of times i hope s30 now becomes a budget steel, i will buy all that shit.8cr is certainly a stainless steel. that is about all i have to say positively about it though lol. i guess if it works it works, maybe you got the 1/100 8cr knives with an ok heat treat and unburnt edge so it didnt go dull from just looking at it. but in terms of steels i hate, 8cr is near the top with only h2 really sticking out as more dogshit in my usage.
>>65186358Nah. It's too damn heavy for what it is. I picked it up for $45, and it just made me want to pick up a Kabar
>>65188783>but in terms of steels i hateHow do you feel about D2?
Finished, what do y'all think of this scale?
>>65188934Benchmade is antigun, that's all I see.
>>65188934I don't. I have no strong opinions on it at all. It seems unremarkable.
>>65188951Understandable that's their closest competition.
>>65182804you can tell just by looking at it. Are you this new that you can't immediately tell a knifes characteristics from one picture. NTA but a street price garberg stomps over 99% of "field knives" posted in this thread, you tards are just consoomers and would never buy something so utilitarian
>>65188915very mid and the only knife ive ever rusted. probably better on a fixie than folder. 14c28n is my favorite cheap steel, its evene asier to sharpen than d2, more stainless, just as tough. loses in edge retention but its not like d2 was that stellar to begin with.dunno desu. i live somewhere wet. stainless is just really nice.>>65188966are you new? we've been shilling mora for years>>65188934good build, modding is fun. i wouldve gone for something other than brown though
>>65188983Samsung tend to oversaturate their photos, it looks decent in real life. It's a cheap entry level bugout anyways, if it was something like a 15V or Rex 121 Spyderco I would probably splurge more on the scale.
>>65188996phone posting but i splurged for ti scales for my s30 mini bugout and love it. it is completely uneccesary but absurdly nice.modding in general isnt a grant value prop but man building a knife you love is great. enjoy edc bliss with that bugout desu
>>65189005It's definitely nicer in the pocket, the Spydie is better in the hand and feels like a tank. That's the trade off I guess.
>>65188517truck is just car but big

What do y'all think of the 50th anniversary Spyderco? I think it's pretty ugly... And it should have been the PM2 not the fucking Native 5.
>>65190803I think finger choils are gay.
>>65190803I agree, the Native is overrated.
I like sharpening things but why is my edge so... like round? Is it because of my hand pressure? Would one of those precision sharpening stands improve this?

Guys can thumb or finger flicking Spydercos/Benchmades damage it over time?
>>65191242Spyderco, no. Benchmades are trash upfront.
>>65191242>>65191246I heard the stop pins was designed to break before the blade or lining. Like most stop pins use 400c or even nylon while the blade can range from S30V or even 20V both of which are harder. So the replaceable parts are the ones that will fail first, that being said flighting a knife open will still send shockwaves which can still cause damage over time to the blade.,
>>65183690>>65184169>>65186990Update: After just a day of owning this thing my thumb now has a sick callous and is 10x strongerStill ordered the Magnacut PM2 though

>>65182501Lowkey want the Jorgesprave folding Kukri: https://gogun.co/products/transformer-kukri I know Tony loves those recurve tantos which seems to be the blade grind in fashion right now (alongside harpoon), not too far off from a kukri profile, I want to see how ridiculous one of these with say the Arbiter blade would look.
>>65191447People want a fidget-y knife. Feel free to post a pic of the badass manly knife you own.
>>65191447People like to change things for fun. Though my manix was pretty stiff if I remember right. I cut a coil off the factory spring. Improved it enough that I don't feel like taking it apart again.
>>65191092>I like sharpening things but why is my edge so... like roundBecause hand sharpening is imperfect, and over time will always lead to a convex edge. Thank fuck for that, because v edges suck ass.
>>65183775Automatic knife laws were created in the 50s after WWII when vets brought back stiletto switch blades from Italy; after West Side Story (a movie about NY gangs knife fighting) came out. They're great in the defense role you mentioned. For criminal attacking, I suppose you could hide it in your hand until the last second when you begin stabbing. The action makes a noise, which is not stealthy.
>>65191309Did you try dropping some lube in there?
>>65183775What others have said mostly. Namely, it is their association with unseemly elements of society along with looking scary. Same reason wood stock mini 14s dont get the same scrutiny as a bog standard AR (pretend this is 1994 give or take just not 2020 when even the antigunners kinda permanently lost going after the AR)Being EXTREMELY charitable, I can see the logic behind a ban of knives that have no other utility or niche beyond combat/fighting. A kid has a case knife for sharpening his pencil and eating an apple? Makes sense. Cleaver for chopping meat? Cool. Filet knife for fish? Yup. But as much as I love my stupid automatics, their practicality 1-handed is pretty limited though not non-existent (a d/a otf like a Microtech combat troon is great for work where the other hand is holding something). Banning switchblades gets rid of the perceived threat of the scary knife scary people use the same way that the NFA/et al bans automatics broadly because an uzi would mow down 5000x more people than a standard semi auto and definitely not just dump 5 rounds on target and 25 rounds up a wall. It's why all militaries have gone exclusively full-auto. Sorry, tangent over, but yeah, since there is no real practical/evolutionary benefit of a switchblade it is easy to ban because no group can really point to anything in its defense (beyond the 2a writ large but this IS California we are talking about)
>>65186990>it's only 70 leafbucks>>65191318>A leaf spring>didn't get it>>65191355

Goddamn why is this thing wearing down so much quicker than the Spyderco? I've had the Pm2 for a month and this thing only a few days. It also feels flimsy as fuck compared to the Spyderco.
>>65193478>he didn’t buy the Hogue
>>65193478The flimsy feel comes with the light weight.>reee coating is coming off on the lock surfaceI guess, dude. That rough coating coming off will make it feel smoother.
>>65193938Why is the coating on the Spyderco so much better? I thought y'all said Cerakote is superior to DLC.
>>65193948Cerakote is better for corrosion resistance because it's non-porous. DLC is porous. DLC is probably better for wear and scratch resistance. It is "diamond-like." The DLC coating wears off the internal areas where metal is rubbing together as well.
>>65193948cerakote is shit on working surfaces.its good on stuff that will never be touched like the outside of an engine or as an alternative to spraypaint.cerakote is there to add color.
>>65193948Nobody who knows what they're talking about will say Cerakote is superior to DLC. There's a reason why the $1200 Springfield Prodigy is cerakoted, and the $8500 Atlas Erebus is DLCed.
>>65193976see >>65193961I just speak up about it because people get dlc spydercos in cruwear and m4 and go sweat on it in the rain and forget to wipe it down and think the coated part would never rust like if it was cerakoted.
Does everyone use the clips on their knives? I find using the clip interferes with my gunbelt and I've read that clipping it to the belt is not recommended. I figure I will never use my knife for serious self defense in a pinch, that's what my gun is for, so I'm considering removing the clip and just carrying it loose in my pocket.
>>65194460i use em for pants pockets. i dont think i have any that would actually work on a belt
>>65194464That's what I'm saying though, when I clip it to my pants pocket, the clip is facing outside and directly in the line of my belt.
>>65194474how low is the belt that its blocking the pocket?
>>65194460I clip into my waistband, under my normal sized belt. Works good mang. I don't like clips in my normal pockets. Too easy to scratch something, or lose the knife.
>>65194502I have a special clip pocket at the front of my pants, so I put it there. I guess I could put it in my normal pocket but then it would scratch up my phone.
>>65194508Yeah I agree but I don't like having something under my gunbelt.
Shouldn't the omega spring be more elilptical, like the red line? They always seem to break right in the middle, so make the middle do less work. Kind of like how the ideal loop shape for a Hotwheels car track ins a tall ellipse and not a perfect circle.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2cHCkqWcmGcSo it only comes out once in a while, and whenever it comes out BladeHQ's website crashed(DDOS) then it sells out in 1 second. This pissed off a whole bunch of people and this time around they will only ship 1 knife per house hold.
>>65196229That, and the hype around the MSI and Stitch Mini, remind me of the cult of personality around Steve Jobs. True story: We were told the MSI mini and Stitch mini were coming. I was a big fan, was 100% on board with buying one of both. We were also told that they were looking to cut down the build time on them compared to the full size, to help justify lower prices. Lo and behold... they got the same number of screws as the full-size. That thumb stud is actually a 2 part assembly similar to the SOCOMs that requires a specially trained person to install to not leave marks. So if anything, it might take *longer* than the full-size MSI...I say all this as I'm currently arguing with the local store about requesting a Gen4 UT in a specific color, even willing to pay up front...
>>65196412What do you think of the Stitch? I live in commiefornia so I am not going to bother with autos, but the Stitch really activates my almons. And I see them go on sale for a lot like some even as low as $225.
>>65196255A tanto pm2 would be cool. Shame it'a a heckin LIMITED ADDITION and will be 3x a reasonable price
>>65196480IIRC the price of the Jade version was $299 for the SS and $329 for the DLC. A part of me kinda wish the scalpers would DDOS again so I won't have to buy this more boring version.
>>65196434Regular? Bit of a meme blade IMO. Would love to give the manual to a butcher and see how he likes it for dressing goats and pigs. I will say... I do want one of the automatics.Mini? I like it a bit more. Reminds me of the Gerber FlatIron, Kizer Sheepdog, or CRKT Folts for some reason. I'm waiting for some other color variations to come out and the kinks to get worked out before buying one though.
I want a balisong that has that Benchmade model 68 aesthetic without paying fucking $500+. Any ideas?
What do y'all think about those tritium nightsights on your knife? Why would you need nightsights on your knife is beyond me but they do look kinda cool.
Why are all American knives such shit?

Lads, we need to discuss the true nemesis of our knives, adhesive tape gunk. How do you clean that shit reliably? It's probably the number one reason my Maxamet, 15v, etc. knives sit in the drawer while my chinkshit 440c's get all the fun.

Sometimes, they even make you prove it. I found a nice one at Sportsmen's Warehouse in my state where it's legal to carry an auto, but they don't carry cool ones like the Protech Godfather, it's more of a hunting and fishing 3.5 inch blade type of selection.

>>65196229M4 is virtually obsolete, how is this better than something like Magnacut? It's a tiny bit better edge retention, while being prone to rust.
Just so everyone knows, a glock knife fits a vz58 bayonet beautifully and it’s much better than the stock sheath!
>>65205043>friend ordered one in OD Green>looks nice>ordered the same knife during Knife Center clearance sale>it's brownI don't get it on the shitty plastic bag that it came in it says OD Green. >>65204953It's a collectable you're supposed to just spray some rust protectant then store it someplace dry.
>>65205048post pics. fake chinese glock knives ripoffs do exist but just cause yours didnt come in packaging doesnt make it fake. people sell used or surplus all the time. it could be fake too but theres not enough info one way or another to say.
>>65205054Honestly I am stupid enough to not care until y'all started talking about it. It was $20 something and everything looked/felt good the sheath felt the same as my friends. Only difference I think was mine says OD and his is OD Green. Isn't Olive Drab supposed to be green?
>>65205241if you think the sheaths real then its probably real. the knockoffs keep the shape but the plastic is not the same as the one glock uses. the glock knife is the same polymer the guns are made of.
>>65204905State laws preventing you? You could buy a button lock and remove the spring to comply with local laws. Would let you open and close with one hand.
>>65204953I think a lot of this comes down to how easy it is for Spyderco to get a batch of steel to make their meme knives from. Also I hear that because M4 is a high speed alloy, it can be sharpened faster and is less likely to have a burnt edge.
>>65205241Old stock OD uses the Glock gen 3 OD which is brown. The green one is actually the newer Forrest Green which matches the Gen4 and up. Both the knives and gun uses the same polymer mixture/colors.
>>65205259Automatic knives are illegal, and carrying a fixed blade has to be open. Not that I give a flying fuck about my state laws anymore. I have a few otf, but the ease of in/out from a kydex pocket sheath is hard to beat. I do want a ProTech Malibu though.

>>65207742>Only better if you don’t know how to sharpen knives.that's great and all but I don't have time to stop working and sharpen the knife. At $10 a pack of hundred, I think that's just fine.but idk I think maybe just stopping and telling the customer "yeah chill out bro, yes you're still paying me but I'm gonna take 20 minutes and fix my tools" will go over well.
>>65208767nta, but I have no idea how that could possible be the case. I use one of those disposable scalpel knives as well, and I mayyybe replace the blade every month and a half. I'm also the worst person in the world with the amount of shit I order online. I am staring at, no shit, over two dozen cardboard boxes right now that I simply can't be assed to breakdown because I have five more boxes coming in the mail by next Tuesday. The only trouble (which goes for really any blade) is when they use actual packing tape to seal the box, because it just sticks to the blade and I need to wipe it off with alcohol to breakdown the adhesive but even then I can still keep going until it's built up so much I can't close it (mine is a folder). The only weakness to them imo as an edc is that they are absolutely NOT for field work. You want to cut anything harder than cardboard? That fucker is going to bend and snap and could straight into your wrist.
>>65209265The cardboard I cut is more for bigger appliances since that's pretty much what I do. These cardboard is high density, triple layered and is prolly about half of the blade edge. With the Kershaw the only way I get through it is to stab the cardboard then pull down hard with both hands. Crazy part about all of this bullshit is I just bought a PM2 in Magnacut and Bugout in S30V, but I am afraid to carry it with me because I don't want to damage/scratch/dull them. So I kept bringing the Kershaw which I sharpen every week now.
>>65208841>Not that I’m aware of,Damn shame. I like carrying around a little 9mm olfa, very handy, but it's flimsy for piercing
>>65201322>Work Sharp sharpening stand thingWhich one?

>>65209465Worksharp precision adjust?
>>65209469Yea that one
>>65209476I've had it for a few months. Let me know if you have any questions.I just had a spyderco sharpmaker before, and I'd say the worksharp ceramic is finer than the fine sharpmaker stones. It gives a mirror polish if you want.It does a better job on some blades, particularly at the tip, and being able to choose more than 15 or 20 degrees is great. You can't sharpen small or thin knives on it because of the clamp. So, while it is an improvement over the sharpmaker in many ways, I still need the SM for my victorinox, gerber lst, and such. One new thing to me with it was getting a burr. But then, you know it's apexed when you get a burr.
>>65209491I still do my Spydercos on the sharpmaker though because the distal taper doesn't fit the clamp right.
>>65209491>>65209497I kinda want the worksharp because I wanted to redo the angles of the factory edges. I’ll probably also buy one of those etsy blocks that prevents it from wobbling too much.
