In almost every video I've seen, the shooter has to manually cycle it at least once to continue shooting. Why is this shit is so unreliable and why it has not been replaced yet?
They're all like 100 fucking years old
>>65185160>the shooter has to manually cycle it at least onceit's called loading the gun
>fires two rounds>re-rack>fire three rounds>re-rack >couple round burst again >re-rack
>>65185191>to continue shootingReading is hard anon, you'll do better someday
HEYIT'S A MACHINE GUNIT'S A MACHINR GUN
>>65185216>okayyyy whatever you say>Wehrmacht marching music begins to play
They're unreliable because of wear. I agree that they need to be replaced; preferably by something cheap enough that the services won't forgo replacing worn out guns or major parts.
>>65185160It is not hard to google common maintenance issue on m2.
>>65185198There's a gauge you're supposed to use to set the headspace and timing when you assemble the weapon before use. Some people take a shortcut by screwing the barrel all the way in and then backing it out a couple of clicks, but that's guesswork. I understand that there's a quick-change barrel to eliminate all of that, but never used one.
>>65186380Am the anon you were replying to. Not OP, but I see what he's claiming to see too. I've not served, but I've noticed that with videos of M2s firing, that they don't keep firing without some form of external motivation (rack it as many times as you have to).I'm going to mark it as completely possible that what I've "seen" is wrong, because I haven't shot one of the things, but I find it weird I happen to only see the M2's blooper reels
>>65186671Any M2 you see in a video could be anywhere from brand new to almost 100 years old. The maintenance could be done by people who know what they're doing and give a shit to gas sniffing tribals using black magic. The headspace and timing might have been set and tested using the appropriate tool, or someone could have YOLOed it during a barrel change under pressure. Any barrel could be long past its service life, or simply hotter than Satan's ballsack. It's a relatively ancient machine gun design and mostly just works, but there are a 1000 variables and any video of one interesting enough to watch probably has about a dozen of them going wrong at any given time. If they were shit every time all the time they wouldn't have been sending motherfuckers across the globe to hell for 93 years.
I saw a video from the Iran Iraq war where a dude is just hosing down some buildings with no stoppages
>>65185160when I went through USMC officer training in 2015 some of the deuces we used were made in 1942
Pic related + FRT is how you would replace it.
You have to do the headspace and timing, and run the go/nogo gauge to make sure it’s ready to goIf you do that improperly, it won’t cycle correctly
I had one of these blow up in my face. Lucky for me, the blast went straight up. The feed tray cover was all mangled pointing straight up. I was told it was bad ammo, but who knows if the armorer was just covering his ass.
>>65188890Ours had Ford Motor Company stamped on it. It was pretty cool.
>>65189058In what way is a butchered semi-auto conversion with an FRT a replacement for an actual M2?
>>65189146That is really cool
In many cases when a weapon or vehicle is so hard to maintain that people do it wrong, then the thing is called unreliable. However calling M2 unreliable tends to get people mad. It's also a complex and expensive design. During WWII the Japanese had great trouble with theirs as they were low on quality alloys to produce certain parts. Meanwhile Americans had issues with belts getting stuck when pulling Gs.Then again "they just don't make em like they used to" is true with machine guns. Just like Maxims, M2 is made of thick and heavy parts which won't break. It is unfortunate how long the major producers ignored some of the important improvements to the gun, some of which were already designed in 30s.
