Ukraine has officially ordered its first 20 Gripen E fighter jets with the first of the order to be delivered in 2030. Sweden is also transferring an additional 16 older models for free starting next year. Ukraine also states that the original goal of ordering 150 Gripen Es are still in place and more will be ordered https://www.reuters.com/business/aerospace-defense/ukraines-zelenskiy-visits-sweden-aviation-news-2026-05-28/
>>65190306Ukraine is pretty much a testground for countries to test their gear againt Russians. Demilitarization of Ukraine is going well sisters.
>>65190306Demilitarization status?
SAAB/Sweden were pretty lucky. In the lull between the C/D production and the E/F production, they did a run of 14 white tail C/D airframes that never got engines or other components, but were fully structurally completed airframes that then got put into storage. So now when they're "giving" ukraine 16 C/D airframes, they're taking some of their older (but still in good shape) airframes from service, and sending them to ukraine, and then they're bringing the 14 white tail airframes out of service, fitting new engines in them and putting them into swedish service as brand new 0-hour airframes.
>>65190306>earmarked 2.5 billion euros out of a 90 billion euro EU loan package for the planes. What would you spend the other 87.5B on?
>>65190317Sadly I think they plan to waste a few billion buying Rafales.
>>65190317TZD>>65190320I haven't heard anything more about Ukraine's plans for Rafales, but Bell Helicopters has been working on setting up office and manufacturing space in Ukraine. So expect to hear news about Ukraine ordering Hueys and Venoms within a few months.
>>65190343SVT said they were intending to get 200KM range so that means they're getting the best missiles too that Russian aircraft have no way of escaping except by staying very far away.
>>65190343Only if they remember to say 'thank you' for spare engines.
>>65190331Yeah i'd expect an announcement of 36-64 helicopters sometimes in the next 6 months with a manufacturing window of 3-8 years depending on the final order size.
>>65190343Expect some Mig-31s to drop from the skies like flies pretty soon.
>>65190306>2030Do we think the 2030 map update will shift any of the lines in a way that's visible without zooming all the way in?
>>65190391Not quite sure about these, but su-34's will be getting prolapsed
>>65190417It probably makes sense for some scenario where Russia goes the North Korea route.
Karaya confirmed to be in the first batch of Ukrainian pilots for C/D variant
>>65190306Gripens make perfect sense for Ukraine. I'm really curious about how Meteor will perform.
>>65190550The takeaway i got from zelensky at the press conference is that it'll push the range where russians can safely launch their glide bombs back significantly. I do hope we'll see them score some air to air kills with the meteor though especially now that they have their AWACS operational to do beyond line of sight strikes.
>>65190550Yeah i'm curious to see the real world impact meteor will have and the real world effective NEZ.
>>65190550Meteor has a 200km range so if they're launched from Dnipro city than the vast majority of southern Ukraine is under immense threat from them.
>>65190717bait in /k/ was something else before the 2020's
>>65190717>as seen in indiaThere is no real evidence to suggest any meteors were fired or even deployed. All reports indicate they were deployed with MICA RF at the time, not Meteor.
>>65190306>the EU is "loaning" Ukraine money to buy theseThis is a thinly disguised SAAB bailout
>>65191436Based. Any money spend on TZD and defense industry to finance future TZD is good.
>>65190306Does the Gripen still use USA-built jet engines? Any time, USA can say no.
>>65190306>Buy 20>Get 16 used>Noncommital approval to purchase over 100 more. Not a bad deal, for both sides.Still worse than F35 or even current Block F16, but Ukraine only needs to worry about russia and their air force is a joke.
>>65193885Actually for ukraine gripen is better since it can fit meteor which has a NEZ that goes far beyond the AMRAAM that an F-16 or F-35 could fire.Yes F-35s would allow them to get closer due to stealth, but they're never getting F-35s, whereas Gripen with Meteor allows 150km+ BVR engagements for "cheap".
>>65190317I'd buy a half dozen SSNs to start.
>>65193903Block IV 35s will carry AIM-260, but you are right. They are not getting those on loan.
>>65193913I mean, yeah, sure, and HACM could allow them to do almost 2000km, but realistically AMRAAM and Meteor are the best they're going to get anytime this decade.
>>65193923What does a cruise missile not yet in service have to do with A2A?
>>65193928What does F-35 Block IV and AIM-260 have to do with ukraine?I thought we were discussing programs that had no relevance to the conversation.
>>65193913174 bests it in range and capability but that bitch is YUGE
>>65193931My mistake. I didn't realize you were both stupid and gay and that when discussing supercars you may as well include speedboats, because why not.
>>65193933No it doesn't.AIM-174 might best it in raw pure lofted range, but by all indications, AIM-260 should have a much more energetic terminal phase due to the 2nd boost. The real question becomes how "smart" is the 2nd boost of AIM-260, is it just "dumb" and activates at a set time after the first boost charge, or does it get triggered by software to go off at an optimal distance to maximize the delta V available for chasing down a maneuvering fighter?AIM-174 is a telephone pole moving at 500mph by the time it's at max range. AIM-260 is likely hitting March 3+ in the terminal phase at "only" ~150miles. AIM-174 is for hitting cargo planes, refuelling planes, AWACS, etc.AIM-260 is for swatting J-20's at 100 miles.
>>65193956>MarchMach
>>65193956Give jeets your equipment let’s see how it handles against the chinkware pakis use
>>65194030With a jeet at the controls it would just slam into the side of a mountain.
>>65193885I'd argue and the ukies seem to agree it's just the best fit for them given their situation. F35s outperform them and all that stuff but they're specifically designed to be heavily outnumbered with quick, easy refuel, maintenance being done from dispersed locations. The gripen was designed on the assumption that the first thing to go in case of war are the air force bases from overwhelming bomber and missile capacity. Ukraine is in the same situation.
>>65193956Gunslinger has significantly longer range and also anti-missile, A2G and ASM capability.
>>65194177Yes, and basically zero utility against a chinese stealth fighter. It's simply not designed to intercept a fighter trying to evade at long lofted ranges.AIM-260 IS designed specifically for that.Theyre two totally different capabilities.
>>65194163I mean, it's a jet designed and produced by a nation bordering russia, that at the time had no plans of joining NATO. I suppose it only makes sense that it's a good direct counter to vatniggerstan
>>65194199>chinese stealth fighteroxymoron
>>65194541Nice. New chinkslop.
>>65195259I'm pretty sure that chinkslop is like a decade old at this point. My favorite one is the übertank that should be a parody but 50/50 they really meant it seriously.
>>65190317A lot of money goes to just keep a country functional, they have to do constant grid repairs, road and bridge repairs, pay singing bonuses and wages etc.I expect a rapid economic recovery when this is all over with their MIC being the cutting edge in cheap drones but right now Ukraine is pretty broke.
>>65196628Why can't they just go into debt?
>>65195416>50/50 they really meant it seriously.lerk moar
>>65196630Because war. If you read the fine print on insurance policies, all of them mention that war is not an insurable risk. Banks are the same; they don't lend money to countries engaged in war (actual war, not goatfucker plinking).
>>65196630What do you think a loan is?
>>65196650This 'loan' isn't a loan in the sense it's expected to be paid back IIRC
>>65190550no way theyll get meteors unless they buy them
>>6519031730 billion is for "keeping the lights on" (funding the civil service, utility repairs between chimp-outs, etc) and 60 billion goes to military funding and weapon acquisitions + development. The Gripen purchasing coming from the latter of the two pools.
>>65196733The press realease says something along the lines of "ukraine is buying the gripen and it's accompanying weapons" so I'd assume the meteor is included in that.
>>65196662It is and it will be, unless forgiven.
