At what range can a .55 gyrojet rifle reliably penetrate 10mm of Cydonian ceramite plate armor? Asking on behalf of a friend of mine.

I can tell you've never actually served. Gyrojet rifles are almost never issued to line troops since the close range penetration of gyrojet rounds is lacking. It takes the .55 gyrojet round almost 4m to achieve the velocity to penetrate standard body armor and almost twice that distance to penetrate the standard 10mm Cydonian ceramite. Then as the Gyrojet round runs out of propellant the rounds rapidly fall off in penetration in non vacuum environments at about 250m. The standard SL17 can penetrate that much armor from point blank to about 400m which is why they are the standard issue weapon to PDF troops. I know the Gyrojet rifles look sexy as hell in action but looks are not everything. Your Nerd flag is really flying with that question.

As long as they didn't issue those PhaS Laser weapons I was happy.
'But Gyrojet guns were cinematic. When a squad opened up all, the rounds burning propellant and exhaust trails made a beautiful sight. And zero recoil made them a must have in Zero-G/Very Low-G operations.
