100y or 200y zero on a hunting rifle?

I am leaning towards 200 because 100y sounds like pussy shit and the holdovers at 200 and 300y are a lot more with a 100y zero than the holdunder at 100y with a 200y zero or whatever

Although granted I will probably largely be blasting deer from 50

100y because you will never shoot game at 200 let alone 300.
You even agree to this point.

no cap unc is shooting up his comcast modem cuz it's lagging in counterstrike

Just do 200 yards. For .308 you should have essentially zero holdover/under at 50 yards with a 200 yard zero.

Stop being a poser, you aren't shooting any deer at 300yrds. Sight your scope to your cartridges "maximum point blank range" and stfu.

so like 200 years...

200 years can't be all wrong.

100m because the bullet is less affected by wind at that range so you get a truer zero. At least that's the fuddlore I'm going with. I hunt innamountains so I may take shots up to 400 yards. I have a 4-16x scope with a Christmas tree reticle because fuck dialing in a holdover when you see a big buck. One time I dialed the wrong way like a retard and shot the ground between his feet.

150

100y zero is for target shooting, the bullet never raises above your line of sight and you can adjust the elevation for range down from there.

unless you're doing some very specific hunting and know what you're doing you don't need to bother with holdovers at all.
>>
Zero it based on the dimensions of your closest rifle range where you can go practice.
>>
>>65196983
It goes out to 200y but it's up hill
>>65196468
Yeah I think trajectory peaks around 150y with like 1.5" hold under
>>
>>65196443
Yeah but it's not like 200y zero makes hunting at 50 or 100 super fucking complicated or anything but does significantly simplify 200 and 300y shots

ok, the actual answer is that you must factor in the diameter of your target (vital area or whatever) and calculate the point blank range and your zero this way.
People like flat-shooting bullets like .270 win because it gives them a somewhat extended point blank range with easier long range shots.
>>
>>65197933
>The .270 Winchester cartridge is equipped with a 130-grain bullet traveling at approximately 3,060 feet per second (fps). When sighted in to intersect 3 inches above the line of sight at 100 yards (about 90 meters), it maintains a trajectory that rises no more than 3.5 inches and aligns with the line of sight around 270 yards. This setup allows for a maximum point blank range of roughly 325 yards, ideal for effectively targeting game the size of deer within a 7-inch diameter target area. Hunters can shoot confidently within this range without needing to adjust for bullet drop. Additionally, the cartridge, loaded with the 130-grain bullet, retains around 1,500 foot-pounds of energy up to 400 yards, meeting the minimum recommended for hunting elk.
btw.
What you are going to do with .308 and other similar misunderstandings is your own problem.

>but it's not like 200y zero makes hunting at 50 or 100 super fucking complicated
the 200 yard zero is coincidentally the same as a 50 yard zero
>>
What ever gives you the longest point blank range acceptable for your game. Keep it simple. Crosshair to the center of vital and sqeeze off. No need for holdovers or -unders. Forget long range shots unless you want to specifically set your gun up for it.
