Cont'd>get behind a tree and check my navigation app to see if we are close to some houses or anything where yokels could be shooting off rounds in their backyard>we are in the center of the woods and nothing is nearby>there is the other trail that we didnt take that is 100-150 yards away in that direction and is running parallel to ours>decide it's time to leave>Screencap our location on the map and send it to my wife and let her know we head gunshots here and are heading home>don't talk on the way out >can smell pot at one point where the trails come pretty close together>can hear deer behind us making sounds of distress in the direction the gunshots came from>can hear things walking around behind us but never see anything>get back to the truck>still the only ones parked there>out of curiosity we make a lap around the area to check the other parking lot on the other side>no one parked there eitherI spent Saturday doing chores to keep this off my mind but now that it's almost 3am I still can't sleep while thinking about it. We took the correct path by accident but easily could have been on the one where those shots came from. I think that they heard us talking and gave us a string of warning rounds for some reason. I should have had a backup AR or AK pistol with NVG compatability set up instead of taking my tomcat. I should have had plates on instead of a rucksack. I am still going to do night hikes in the area regardless but I absolutely HATE the feeling of being outgunned and watched. This is the second time I've had something like this happen and I made the same mistakes again.Anyway let's hear what happened to you.
I was way out in the desert. About 15 miles from a paved road. Had to drive on very rough dirt road, lots of big rocks, sharp rocks, sand. Saw a few small groups of off roaders off in the distance with lifted modified 4x4 vehicles. Starts getting dark, I just pull off for the night and start eating, getting dark. Then some honda accord comes driving buy very slowly. I have no idea how he could have made it out that far, on that road, with that car. Looked like a poor Mexican national who just walked across the boarder. He drives past my truck going into an even more remote area and I am thinking where in the fck did he come from, and where in the fck is he going, there is nothing out there for anotehr 20 miles and the road does not even connect to anything else. About an hour later when its completely dark, and I mean dark, his car comes back very slowly and continues own down the road about two miles to a T section and I lose sight of him. Wake up the next morning and drive out, past his car that has two flat tires and he is no where to seen.

This was back when it wasn't even official our state had a wolf population.Was shitting bricks pretty good when we went through the pictures. Didn't look like they were fully grown yet, but still like a good sized German Shepard.Needless to say, I carry my fucking rifle now when I go out.

Every once in a while I like to dress up in full kit and hang out about a mile in on remote lightly used trails around dusk and pretend to listen to coms whenever I see people coming.
